Following on from the blanket for Magic8 which is under construction, we'd like to offer one to Whatevertheweather who has recently lost her baby daughter.

I know there is already an army of knitters and crocheters and donors out there; would anyone be able to join us?

Or..Grownupnow can I be your donor?

Georgimama · 31/08/2011 15:29

I'm doing this one LadyWellian, if done in the specified wool on 4mm needles it comes up at 6 x 6 if you keep the tension fairly snug. It's fairly easy - I have conquered my fear of moss stitch thanks to this project.

TinyPawz · 31/08/2011 15:30

I'm a beginner at knitting and crocheting and would love to contribute to a blanket. Does it matter that I am not an expert/experienced crafter

Georgimama · 31/08/2011 15:36

Tiny I'll take the liberty of answering you - no it does not matter! Plain garter stitch or stocking stitch would be fine (can't crotchet at all myself). I think the only thing the organisers are "strict" about is using the right wool so that the blankets wash and wear as well as possible.

KnottyLocks · 31/08/2011 15:37

Folks, if you are offering skills or money, PM me Smile

I've started the matching process. Some of you will be getting PMs about now.

Some later...

crazynanna · 31/08/2011 15:39

Messaged you back,Knotty Smile

KnottyLocks · 31/08/2011 15:39

Tiny, we welcome all levels Smile

We've had lovely people actually learn how to knit in order to contribute.

Plain squares are great and look fantastic between the fancier ones. They show each other off beautifully.

*Reposting wool details:

Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK
or
Rowan Cashsoft DK

Colours: blues, purples, pinks, greens, silvers, creams

Wool available from LydiaTheTattooedLady for a very reasonable rate. PM her - she's a bit further up thread.

Wool also available online.*

KnottyLocks · 31/08/2011 15:48

If you need wool from a donor, could you PM me your address if you haven't done so already?

As you were.

duchesse · 31/08/2011 16:14

I can knit but can't spare any money at the moment. I'd like to contribute to this blanket for Whatever.

purplepidjin · 31/08/2011 16:25

IMPORTANT

One plain garter stitch square with half the stitches dropped is just as valued as the dozens sent by experienced crafters.

I can knock out granny squares by the dozen, others struggle with each stitch. I don't give a flying toss how fancy your square is, it is enough that you care about a stranger and want to bring them some comfort

That is all for now until I remember what else I wanted to say

Could someone please explain how things work and If I can help id be honored to be included

Fontsnob · 31/08/2011 16:50

Okay, am PMing Knotty.

LadyWellian · 31/08/2011 16:54

Thanks Georgi. I've recently conquered my fear of moss stitch too, though I'm afraid the words 'keep the tension fairly snug' struck fresh terror into my heart - I don't reaally do 'snug' Grin

KnottyLocks · 31/08/2011 17:05

TheOldTrout,

the wool is available in the states so you should be able to get some.

We're doing this new blanket and another one too so I think you probably have time.

As much as I hate to say it, there will probably be more blankets. If your squares don't arrive in time for this one, we can always use it for others.

Whatevertheweather · 31/08/2011 17:06

Oh.my.goodness. I have just seen the link to this thread. I actually can hardly type through the tears - I just cannot believe that you are all willing to make and give this amazing wonderful gift to a complete stranger. Please let me know where I can send some money too - it is enough that everyone is willing to give up their time for us.

I don't know if cwwm said but I will be giving the blanket to my elder dd Katie and telling her it was made by the loveliest ladies for her from Erin and that when she has it over her it will be Erins way of giving her a cuddle.

Honestly you will never ever know how much this means to me and my family at this dark time. A thousand thank you's xxxxx

purplepidjin · 31/08/2011 17:06

Trout, if you can get the right wool then please send me squares and they'll be welcomed. We've had contributions from canada, new zealand and thailand before so I don't see why we can't have america too!

More than happy to do it for you, WTW - anything to be able to help in the smallest way possible.

Pidjin - and Australia! Grin

purplepidjin · 31/08/2011 17:09

Wtw, thank you. Those are exactly the reasons people want to be involved in projects like this and hard evidence like your post make it even more worth it Star

youarekidding · 31/08/2011 17:10

I can buy some wool if someone's looking for donations. 'fraid my knitting skills are pretty poor and are definatly not up to standard for a precious blanket.

How do I do this?

KnottyLocks · 31/08/2011 17:14

PM me, youarekidding. Thanks.

KnottyLocks · 31/08/2011 17:17

Whatevertheweather,

a woolly hug is exactly what we intended. Smile We hope that it brings some comfort to you all in these difficult times.

I've asked that some knitters include the initials 'E' and 'K' for your girls. If there is anything else you would like, we'll do our very best.

youarekidding · 31/08/2011 17:24

Done knotty

I love the idea of a 'hug from Erin'. What a lovely way of putting it WTW.
