I've just heard the sad news about Magic8ballhasstheanswers leaving 6mo twins and a 4yo Sad

If anybody would like to show their condolences, post here and we'll organise it. I'll take on construction again unless someone else would like a turn?

IvySedai (who messaged me to let me know) is happy to co-ordinate so PM's from Donors and Crafters needing a match to her please.

Previous squares were 6", knitted or crocheted. Blues, pinks and purples were the most popular colours. Debbie Bliss Cashmerino or Rowan Cashsoft DK (links are just the first ones I found on google) It's also available in John Lewis.

Lastly, was there anything in particular that Magic liked and could be incorporated in the design?

Ivy

Please could you pm me? i'm on my phone so can't, but can reply.

So sad to know that another blanket is needed. Would love to donate wool.

cherryburton · 18/08/2011 16:17

PM'd you Ivy.

I recall the name but didn't know magic8 well. So sad though, my heart goes out to her family. Happy to knit squares. Is there a deadline?

BupcakesandCunting · 18/08/2011 16:37

I thought it might not be Ivy, so I opted for the Rowan Cashsoft DK (really hope this is the right stuff! When I looked at the labels there seemed to be lots of different ones... Aran/Baby/etc)

DairyBeetle · 18/08/2011 16:38

I've PM'd you as well Ivy, I'm not the greatest of knitters (in fact squares are about my limit) but would be happy to contribute one or two.

I didn't know Magic8 but saw her posts on the pregnancy boards, my thoughts are with her DH, DD and the babies.

JKSLtd · 18/08/2011 16:43

PP - very sorry to hear this though I never 'met' Magic8, very sad :(

Can I ask how did it go giving Edgar their blanket? Never saw a thread about it but that was the one that really affected me as story was similar to ours re brain tumour & op.

purplepidjin · 18/08/2011 17:14

TooMuch, thanks - it is possible to do initials in knitting and I'll be sure to put those somewhere in the middle if anyone would like to?

Lydia, that's an incredibly generous offer. I know from experience that the purple is a particularly pretty shade

Galxay, have you PM'd IvySedai?

Bupcakes, the baby is thinner than the regular DK, please get the Double Knit! The blanket will wash and wear much better if all the wool is the same. Yarns wash and dry at different rates causing warping, which it would be nice to avoid so this can be a lasting reminder.

Thanks, Reindeer, same address

right, I think I've paired up everyone except those whose addresses I don't have yet, and a couple of donors.

thank you all again.

PP, shall I start a thread in Arts and Crafts?

purplepidjin · 18/08/2011 17:19

Frisky, any style you like - www.ravelry.com is a good resource for patterns. Charity shops are a good place to get cheap needles/hooks but you have to ask because they keep them under the counter because they're an offensive weapon Hmm Have you PM'd Ivy?

Bupcakes, it is very confusing but it sounds like you got it spot on Grin

Dairy, thank you - and thank you to anyone else I haven't thanked! I hadn't met Magic either, but couldn't possibly say no when Ivy asked for advice in organising this Sad

JKSL you have PM

Very sorry to hear about this.

I'm only a learner crocheter, but will have a go. I have some purple Rowan handknit cotton I could to use - would that do? If not I'm happy to get some of the other stuff.

If you pm me with where to send it?

purplepidjin · 18/08/2011 17:24

Ivy, I did one this morning asking for volunteers and I'm steering people your way from there

Besom, please use either the Cashmerino or Cashsoft in Doubleknit. Different yarns wash and dry at different rates meaning the blanket will warp and won't last very long. Sorry to be bossy. Any colour, any style is fine!

Bulk PM with my address will be sent once we're underway

herbie, IvySedai has a spreadsheet matching people. I'm sure your skills will be extremely useful is we have more donors than crafters! Thank you

Big thanks to purple and ivy for coordinating x

Besom · 18/08/2011 17:33

Hi ladies, I was a friend of magic

her daughters initials are I, X and B, she also had a much loved angel baby daughter with the initial R if anyone wanted to include of of that.

She always referred to her twins as spiderbabies whilst she was carrying them

She loved butterflies

Her dh is A

She actually lived in surrey as opposed to greater London.

MN is a wonderful wonderful place, None of us can believe our beautiful friend is gone. :(

purplepidjin · 18/08/2011 18:19

Thank you for that information, lia - hopefully lots of people can do butterflies, if not initials! I might have a stab at a crochet spider, or possibly pair of spiders...

lydiathetattooedlady · 18/08/2011 18:59

ive looked on ravelry and they do have a few initial squares, measurements will just need to be checked to ensure a 6" square x x

theglove · 18/08/2011 19:05

This is a lovely idea, awful that it's such sad circumstances.
I'd also like to knit or crochet some squares, I've PMd Ivy and will follow instructions.

lydiathetattooedlady · 18/08/2011 19:06

ive just looked and ravelry and if you type in 'butterfly chart' there are a few on their that could be converted on to a square x

purpleknittingmum · 18/08/2011 19:13

Oh no :(

I have a ball left over from last time, seemed to have been sent an extra ball somehow

I have one square already done, and I manage 3 squares out of one ball. Are they going to be sent to you purple?

100years · 18/08/2011 19:37

Lydia is sending wool to me tomorrow so I'll be able to get cracking on mine soon.

If I crochet (granny square) with a 4mm hook would that be the best to get a 6" square? If not which would be?
