I've just heard the sad news about Magic8ballhasstheanswers leaving 6mo twins and a 4yo Sad

If anybody would like to show their condolences, post here and we'll organise it. I'll take on construction again unless someone else would like a turn?

IvySedai (who messaged me to let me know) is happy to co-ordinate so PM's from Donors and Crafters needing a match to her please.

Previous squares were 6", knitted or crocheted. Blues, pinks and purples were the most popular colours. Debbie Bliss Cashmerino or Rowan Cashsoft DK (links are just the first ones I found on google) It's also available in John Lewis.

Lastly, was there anything in particular that Magic liked and could be incorporated in the design?

I've PM'd Ivy. Really sorry to hear this. :(

giraffesCantHulaHoop · 18/08/2011 13:56

oh thats so sad

BupcakesandCunting · 18/08/2011 13:57

In that case, if we're able to donate the wool and get someone to craft for us non-knitters, I will do that I think. I will PM Ivy now.

StickThemWithThePointyEnd · 18/08/2011 13:58

thank you to all who want to get involved.
it's easier for me to match you up/keep track of everyone if you pm me, then I can add you to my spreadsheet (which I would be completely lost without).

If you are a crafter who would like to be matched up with a wool donor, could you please pm me your address?

thank you all so much again.
I am, once again, completely overwhelmed.

PinotsKittens · 18/08/2011 13:58

That's what I'm doing Buppy - I'm hopeless at crafts but can buy wool & post it!

notbothered · 18/08/2011 13:59

so Sad im from nw london, but can get anywhere just let me know if you need help to get blanket to the family. (off to get some wool)

PinotsKittens · 18/08/2011 13:59

Oh Ivy x posted!

digitalgirl · 18/08/2011 14:00

Thanks so much for organising this Ivy - I've bought some wool and sent it off. Thanks to the knitters too, you're all wonderful. Magic would be very proud of what she has inspired.

purplepidjin · 18/08/2011 14:02

Thank you

ComeWhine, have you pm'd Ivy?

Colours that were popular last time were pinks, blues and purples. Each dye lot comes up slightly different and it makes a lovely effect Photos

DraculasMum, thank you very much. The family are apparently in London and I'm in the New Forest, so it should be fairly straightforward Smile

Where is everyone getting wool from?

ThePosieParker · 18/08/2011 14:06

Gosh this is awful, her poor DH and children. xxx

DraculasMum · 18/08/2011 14:09

Just had a thought, if you struggle with getting it to the family my partner works for a large courier company so could arrange delivery easily.

Thumbwitch · 18/08/2011 14:10

So sorry to hear the sad news. I don't think I had much interaction with Magic but how awful for her family. :(

I am a bit stuck in Australia with no Paypal and no chance of getting the right wool - but have an idea. Can anything be appliquéd to these blankets? I could send something over that could be sewn on? Of course it might not work but it was an idea.

Failsafe · 18/08/2011 14:10

Oh how tragic, condolences to Magic8's family.
Not really "met" magic8 as i'm quite new but will happily donate wool. Will PM Ivy now.
Im in the east midlands if any help is needed in getting the blanket to the family.

purplepidjin · 18/08/2011 14:15

This website has a big selection or Rowan

This website has a good selection of Debbie Bliss

If you wait til you know your crafter's address, you can have it delivered directly to them (I think, I don't do much internet shopping)

You can also buy it in John Lewis, and other independent wool shops. I know the big independent department store in Winchester (can't remember the name Blush) has it at a good price.

Dracula'sMum, that's a fantastic offer and thank you very much. It'll take at least a month to organise and construct this (there's 100 squares in each of the previous blankets, which gives 20' of edging to do, so quite a lot of crocheting) so I'll have to get back to you. It also depends on how the family would prefer to receive it - anonymously, or by meeting the people involved...

Sorry to be a numpty, but how do I PM?

purplepidjin · 18/08/2011 14:17

You see the blue bar containing the poster's name? Look along that to the right and it says "Add message | Report | Message Poster"

Find a post by the person you want to message, then click on the "Message poster" next to their name

Hi, im so sorry to hear about this. I would like to help out by knitting a few squares. Just let me know where to send them. I also own a wool shop, and where as we dont stock a huge amount of Debbie Bliss i have got a few shades in the cashmerino DK that i can sell to anyone who needs at £3 a ball instead of £4.50. The colours i have left are cream, pale green, purple, pale pink and pale blue. Id give it for free if i could. Ifanyone is interested i can let you know what amounts ive got left x x

Bogeyface · 18/08/2011 14:20

Are there any patterns that are preferred or should be avoided due to thickness etc? Cable for example?

pamplemousserose · 18/08/2011 14:24

I'm happy to craft for someone else, can't pm on my phone

DutchOma · 18/08/2011 14:27

this site sells the Cashmerino DK at £4.20 a ball. If you ask Ivy for the address of a crafter you will only have to pay postage once, if it goes directly to the crafter and not via you.

Readyisknitting · 18/08/2011 14:28

Just pm'ed you Ivy, I can knit if someone can supply the yarn

itsthawooluff · 18/08/2011 14:28

Thanks PP - have now PM'd you. And so sorry to be so dumb.
