Following on from the call for quilters and knitters here, this thread is for those who would like to in contribe a square so that we can make a quilt for EdgarAleNPie and her family.

Your square needs to be:

7" square
cotton or polycotton
pre-washed to avoid shrinkage
zigzagged or overlocked around the edges, if possible
Any colour
If appliqued, using cotton
Can be embroidered
Any design to be in the central 6" square
Can send plain squares too

Details regarding posting, etc, to follow.

Many thanks.

Right, I'm off to get fabric today (Late I know but this week has been mega bsuy!) bit worried that my square is going to look rubbish next to bebe's now though.

Still, I will try my best...

KnottyLocks · 25/03/2011 09:32

Blatherskate, we're all feeling the same!

Pixie, you found a home for that fabric yet?

Pixie - Are we short on squares at all? I could try & do another over the weekend when DH is at home to 'take over' with DD! It's been an unusually busy week for me!

KnottyLocks · 25/03/2011 10:32

Bebe, are you trying to show us up here? Grin

OP posts:
bebejones · 25/03/2011 10:46

I don't want to tread on toes or upset anyone or show anyone up! Blush

KnottyLocks · 25/03/2011 10:50

You are certainly not treading on toes or upsetting anyone. Smile

Your square is too bloody good though Grin

I got the perfect fabric!!! Grin

Right, help for a newbie here - at what point do I need to pre wash it? Before I start cutting and sewing or after it's made?

And is sticking it down with fabric glue befire I stitch it cheating?

bebe you're not shoing us up - you're setting the bar. Will be trying very hard to step up :)

Blatherskite · 25/03/2011 10:59

Oh and one of the fabrics in my 'fat quarter' was a deep blue with spots on that looks a bit like a night sky. If I've got time I thought I might trying doing the constellation Leo with little stars...?

Blatherskite · 25/03/2011 11:00

If I have any time left that is!

Blatherskite · 25/03/2011 11:02

And if we need another...

bebejones · 25/03/2011 11:14

Blather - wash the fabric before you cut it or sew it! Otherwise it will shrink and it won't be the right size & could pull the design/stitching and make it distorted! :)

Blatherskite · 25/03/2011 11:18

Thanks bebe :)

Mirage · 25/03/2011 15:49

Right, just got in [have been teaching sewing at the local primary school today],so will get sewing this afternoon.A very kind MNetter has sent me some gorgeous fabric, with a poignant story attached.I'm going to make it up now.

Pixie,will PM you.

ReshapeWhileDamp · 25/03/2011 18:06

I thought I'd like to do a mini quilt block to fit into the 6" (7" really!) square - nothing too fancy, probably a Nine Patch. Anyone else doing a quilt block or is this going to look really odd in the middle of the quilt? Confused

Morning all. Finished my squares last night. Quite pleased with the outcome although my sewing machine decided to play up halfway through so I've finished them by hand.

I've also posted some pics on my profile . (Not the best quality pics I'm afraid) but a miracle I managed to work out how to put them on there.

Keep stitching!! Smile

PS - Pixie I'm PMing you now.
