Following on from the call for quilters and knitters here, this thread is for those who would like to in contribe a square so that we can make a quilt for EdgarAleNPie and her family.

Your square needs to be:

7" square
cotton or polycotton
pre-washed to avoid shrinkage
zigzagged or overlocked around the edges, if possible
Any colour
If appliqued, using cotton
Can be embroidered
Any design to be in the central 6" square
Can send plain squares too

Details regarding posting, etc, to follow.

Many thanks.

youretheoneformefatty Your squares are lovely! Smile Feeling ever so slightly inadequate looking at some of these pics!

bebejones · 26/03/2011 10:08

Youretheone - the squares are beautiful! The one your DS drew had me welling up, what a lovely thing to do, you must be so proud of him! :)

youretheoneformefatty · 26/03/2011 10:32

Thankyou goygoy and bebe. DS1 is an angel. So is DS2 (although his halo's a bit wonky)! Grin I treasure them and count my blessings every day.

It's so lovely what we're all doing here. Keep up the fab work!

purplepidjin · 26/03/2011 10:43

yourethe that's an incredible selection [mwah]

KnottyLocks · 26/03/2011 11:51

Youretheone, love the squares. Gold Star awarded Smile DS1's is so very touching. Bless him.

The cake has made me hungry. My healthy eating plan is going to pot.

Thanks purple and Knotty. A gold star! Will pass it on to DS.

I know what you mean about the healthy eating. I've just bought a HUGE bar of mint aero to share with DH tonight. (wine is off the menu.!) Unfortunately it din't make it the few miles home in the car. Ho hum...

JustKeepSwimming · 26/03/2011 18:10

Well, I have completed my square but...it is kind of wonky and i don't want to 'straighten' it by trimming the edges as it'll be too small. So whoever is putting it together will have to make the decision on what to do with it/how best to deal with it. I am a total amateur and mind definitely aimed higher than skill level Blush

KnottyLocks · 26/03/2011 19:28

JustKeepSwimming, it's not wonky, it's character. The whole point of being handmade rather than off a mass production line. Original works of art crafted with love. Gold Star awarded Grin

Although, we are a bit of a production line, aren't we? However, nothing bland about us, eh?

Have started on another square, a hot air balloon. (I know someone else was doing one too) I was going to do a bus but can't find any red fabric, must be the only colour I don't have!

bebejones · 26/03/2011 19:49

Oooh, might do a train......will see if I can get it to work with what I have!

Ihatecobwebs · 26/03/2011 20:05

Knotty - I handpiece, so do you want me to sew to the end of the seams, if not, do you want me to stich to 6" ?

Afraid its been a busy week, and I'm only at the ironing fabric stage. Hope to get them cut this evening, but will only be simple so I can be sure of completing them in time.

bebejones · 26/03/2011 20:07

Scrap the air balloon, I think I'm going to do a little steam train :)

:o I'm sure yours is beautiful Blather.

overmydeadbody · 26/03/2011 20:24

I'm just catching up with this and will be contributing a fabric square or two.

I'm not too late am I? I can have them done and in the post monday? Or is that not sorted yet?

KnottyLocks · 27/03/2011 07:55

Cobwebs, firstly great effort with handpiecing. In this modern age, don't often see handpiecing. Keep up the good work.

Probably best to stitch to the end of the seams. I'll be doing the same with my fake handpieced square.

Overmydeadbody , lovely to have you on board. The details for the fabric squares are

7" square (total finished size)
cotton or polycotton
pre-washed to avoid shrinkage
zigzagged/ overlocked/edge stitched, if possible, to help avoid fraying
Any colour
If appliqued, using cotton
Can be embroidered
Any design to be in the central 6" square
Can send plain squares too

For applique ideas: flowers, balloons, trains, cake, balls, cars, planes, buses. Leo loved all of these things.

Thank you knotty. I'll make my squares today.

peeriebear · 27/03/2011 11:13

Finished mine, and posted a pic that hopefully works. The edges of both squares are rough I'm afraid, I left them at 8" square. I can embroider/applique but I can't hem for toffee and I don't have a sewing machine.
I hope my square is ok, I just wanted to do a peaceful night-time one. If it's not, no worries, I can do something else.

peeriebear · 27/03/2011 11:15

Oh and it is navy blue, not black as it looks in the photo!

bebejones · 27/03/2011 11:20

Peerie - I love that, it is beautiful! :)

I have attached my train to the square just need to embroider the edges!

KnottyLocks · 27/03/2011 12:12

Peerie, that's gorgeous. Smile Don't worry about the raw edges, it wasn't a necessary thing. You should be very proud of your efforts. Very lovely.

peeriebear · 27/03/2011 12:29

Oh I am glad it's ok, I thought it might be a bit 'dark'. Tis a dog and his Dog Star I suppose :) I'll post them tomorrow if I can get out of work on time.

Blatherskite · 27/03/2011 15:23

My sewing machine has chosen now to break!

I've done most of the balloon but it's an awful mess on the back. Going to have to finihs it my hand where I didn't get the stitching done. Hope it doesn't look too much of a mess Sad
