terrifying, dangerous, abusive "advice" on r/transgenderuk

https://www.reddit.com/r/transgenderUK/comments/1vo4oqz/hypothetical_situation/.

Dad wants to prevent his effeminate 15 year old boy from developing an adam's apple or deep voice, so "hypothetically" asks if he could back and forth to France for puberty blockers.

gets loads of "support", told he's a wonderful father, advised to put the lad on diy estrogen instead as it's more appropriate "at that age" (15!).

Surely platforms can't allow this, legally! it's so dangerous. I'm really upset. His poor little lad.

Are you able to explain why Dr Kaltiata’s history of “anti trans political advocacy” is without relying on Erin in the Morning’s writings?

Or have you just come over from Reddit to open a brand new account here to argue for giving black market medications to kids and think you’re a champion?

Oh dear.

Abusive Practices And Conversion Therapy Ties: The Right Latches Onto Finnish Doctor Kaltiala

Finish Doctor Riittakerttu Kaltiala published an article in Bari Weiss' The Free Press, stating she helped "pioneer" trans care. The reality is more akin to a horror story for patients at her clinic.

No that's not what happened.

"During Supreme Court oral arguments in United States v. Skrmetti, ACLU attorney Chase Strangio conceded that existing clinical studies do not track or show a reduction in completed suicides from pediatric gender transition care, explaining that completed suicides in such small study cohorts are statistically rare."

In terms of suicidality for the general population, acknowledged risk factors include societal rejection & mental health problems that trans people disproportionately suffer from so it stands to reason trans people are at an increased risk particularly if they suffer from multiple risk factors that compound like addiction, unemployment, homelessness & familial rejection which they often do.

I doubt you could ever get accurate numbers of suicidality because supportive interventions from family, community & the medical profession may have confounded/mitigated these. But its unnecessary anyway because suicide risk factors dictate the likelihood of increased risk.

Yes. So in doing so that is admitting that the “trans kids kill themselves” trope is false. Because there is it is actually statistically rare.

Thank you for pointing out that in court, it was revealed that the trope is false.

Icelandicnights · 17/08/2026 09:53

What court case?

NotBadConsidering · 17/08/2026 09:54

So you can only rely on Erin in the Morning.

So your proof that something Erin Reed wrote isn’t false is to link something Erin Reed wrote as proof. Gotcha.

FlirtsWithRhinos · 17/08/2026 09:54

Ah, Schrodinger's suicides.

Definitely happening, but also won't show up in any stats because reasons.

But definitely happening. The true Believers know this with great great certainty.

One who is not a True Believer, warrior of the faith, might pause to wonder if all these additional issues that accompany transgenderism in children are apparently severe enough and common enough to completly hide the trans element of the suicides, isn't it possible that this transgenderism is actually a symptom of the other issues rather than a thing in its own right? And one might wonder why, rather than irreversibly damaging the child physically and mentally in service of the "fact" of their transgenderism, the first port of call is not to untangle and support the child witj those other issues?

You say "anti-trans", but I see it as "trans-critical". This treatment causes permanent changes to the bodies of people who cannot consent due to their age and immaturity. The idea that your soul/identity/inner personality can be at odds with your body only works in books and other media- it simply doesn't work in reality.

There is a paradox in removing Gender Dysphoria as a recognised medical disorder from the DSM and insisting that children be exposed to harmful medications to "treat" a condition that is no longer classed as medical. I cannot understand how this is in any way ethically sanctioned by parents and medical professionals.

It isn't trans people that are the issue; it's the idea of self-ID- that a person's feelings and identity overrule objective reality that is causing all the issues. If children who express distress because they are gender non-conforming can manage that distress while they go through puberty so they have healthy bodies, this is surely a win-win. The only people really losing are the ethically dubious practitioners making a buck out of this.

Not having a record of suicidality doesn't prove there's no increased risk which is irrelevant because generally accepted increased risk factors do.

Can anyone link to figures that show overall suicide rates for young people in a country before and after puberty blockers begin to be used in that country?

If it's a fact that many trans kids will be driven to suicide if puberty is not blocked, regardless of the existence or not of studies at the individual level, this must surely be reflected in lower suicide rates at the overall population level before and after blockers were introduced.

Anyone?

No I have seen no such study although the recent Finnish longitudinal register study indicates a higher instance of serious psychiatric problems for children and young people AFTER medicalisation than before.

In the adult population however, the Swedish longitudinal study found higher rates of suicide in people who had “reassigned sex” than in the general population

Long-Term Follow-Up of Transsexual Persons Undergoing Sex Reassignment Surgery: Cohort Study in Sweden - PMC

Please stop engaging with these Reddit thread derailers. They win every time someone takes the trouble to respond to their "gotcha"s and there is no way on earth that anything you say will make the slightest difference to them.

As an aside, isn't it amazing that they're allowed to come on here and "discuss" this stuff with people but anyone trying to reciprocate on Reddit would be immediately banned. Fucking hypocrites.

FlirtsWithRhinos · 17/08/2026 10:06

Oh bless them they are trying so hard to make this "cult" thing stick aren't they?

"People who don't believe your brain can have a mysterious gender that matches the sex of other people's bodies and makes you basically the same as them, but in ways we can't actually describe without showing up the whole thing to be basically sexist or homophobic stereotypes are all in a cult!"

TransParentlyAnnoyed · 17/08/2026 10:06

Puberty blockers are used on children with precocious puberty in order to help then have puberty at an appropriate time, not to stop them going through puberty. It's entirely different. And even then, they can have awful side effects.

Blockers were originally presented as "time to think" but the overwhelming evidence is that instead of giving a child time to think, they effectively lock them into a medical pathway of blockers, then cross sex hormones. Some also go on to surgery.

This path will not only make many of these young people infertile, it will also make having a functional sex life almost impossible for many, and for some, totally impossible.

Losing all sex drive / desire to have sex is a possibility.

Also, puberty isn't just about genitalia and other sex charactistics, it's also the time when your brain develops from a child to an adult. What affect does pausing that have on a person? This hasn't been researched, beyond some small studies e.g. one which showed brain impatient in sheep, and loads of anecdotal evidence of kids on blockers saying they felt like they had "brain fog".

If the far right were suggesting sterilising gay and bisexual youth, neutering them so they had no sex drive, I hope we would all stand together against something so horrific.

But, can you not see, you are supporting exactly this, but with the magic sprinkle of marketing on top so you think it's ok?

I strongly suggest you go away and read Hannah Barnes' book Time to Think and come back after you've understood what is at stake here.

Edited

I strongly suggest you read the recent scientific studies showing that puberty blockers are safe, rather than transphobia.

Why on earth does this even concern you? There are so few trans children, and you have no idea how they think or feel.

I'm the mother of someone who's trans. I know that doctors, parents and trans people are the only ones with relevant opinions about blockers. It has literally nothing to do with you, or most other people here.

How much time do you devote to actually helping children versus reading transphobia? Such a weird thing to do.

Reed claims that Kaltiata has “extensive ties with at least one anti-LGBTQ+ hate group” and then links his own article about the fact the SPLC has designated Genspect and SEGM as those groups. Of course, it’s nonsense that these groups are “anti-LGBTQ+” because the SPLC’s claims as such were fictitious nonsense and those organisations have people who sre LGBTQ running them and participating in them. Apparently the “evidence” that Kaltiata has “extensive ties” is she presented at a conference.

Wow. Sooo revealing. Reed really is a modern day Woodward and Bernstein isn’t he 🤣🤣

It has absolutely nothing to do with you. His child is trans, and he's trying to help her access care which would pause puberty, giving her time to grow up and decide if she wants to proceed with transition.

I wouldn't condone him doing it without medical supervision, because not every trans kid is suitable. They aren't handed out like Smarties at gender clinics.

Puberty blockers have been used for decades on cis children experiencing precocious puberty - and they're still being given now. It's a proven medication.

Leave the poor family alone, and maybe reflect on the damage done to trans children by anti-trans activism. This dad is trying to save his child's life because she's been denied even the basics of care here. Trans kids don't even get proper counselling despite being in deep distress and suffering horrendous bullying.

There are kids dying all over the world, why not try saving them instead? This one has a parent who loves them. Even if he doesn't succeed, that child has a massively increased chance of making it to adulthood because she knows her dad loves her.

Are you serious? child abuse is EVERYONE's concern. The boy is 15 and his dad is looking into blocking normal puberty, against medical guidelines.

The first bit of your false assertion is that Erin is 'she'.

Everything he does is hitched to this lie, and he will do anything to keep it that way.

Might now be the time to quote a stat finding from Hannah Barnes' book Time to think where children in GIDS were ten times, that is the number 10, more likely to have a registered sex offender as a parent.

You say you are the mother of someone who says they are the opposite sex.

The way you go after people who are also parents of children caught up in this makes me think otherwise.
