Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Are we a cult?

I keep reading that sex realists, of which I am one, are a cult. Perhaps a genderist could be so kind as to explain what a cult is, and why we qualify. Sometimes one of us calls them a cult too. Who has a better case, hmmm?

'..which segues neatly to the next point, since I can already predict the reactions of many of the less capable regulars here to this post.'

Less capable regulars.
What an unkind thing to write.

Yes, that poster likes their little digs and sneers. It kind of takes away from any sensible point they might be making, but unfortunately they don't realise that. People just file it all in the "goady" bin.

“your particular brand of rabid pitchfork waving reflects very badly on real feminists and makes it much, much harder to get our views and opinions listened to”

Ooh! Is this going to be the next accusation? Because women are fighting for the right to retain single sex spaces and for it to be acknowledged that men are not women, all feminism is going to fail and it will be All Our Fault!

Don't forget "The rest of us"...."don't even especially like you."

Sad times

It begs the question "what sort of empty life do they have when the only thing they can find to do on a nice day is attempt to 'spar' with people they find both aggressive and 'less capable'". Poor lamb.

"No, we're 51% of the human race"

You making a false statement, possibly intentionally in an effort to convince yourself.

Women are 51% of the human race.
GC cultists are not 100% of women.

The overwhelming majority of us do not have a problem with trans-women, do not slavishly idolise a deranged billionaire, and do not exclusively inhabit echo-chambers like this particular sub-forum in the, otherwise rational, MN fora.

A merest glance at the quality of some of the posts that react to anyone espousing pro-trans statements here is as illuminating as it is depressing (but then, given such posts are reactionary in every sense of the word, I'm not surprised).

Are you a cult? Depending on your definition, I'd say so; there are certainly strong cult-like aspects (such as the anti-TRA whataboutery that's going to follow this post), and there is certainly a tribalistic mindset that is vehemently and aggressively against anyone who steps outside the narrow view that pervades here in spades.

The claim you speak for, are representative of, or even acting in the interests of, all women as as laughable as it is untrue.
The rest of us don't agree with you. We don't even especially like you. And we are sure as hell unhappy that your particular brand of rabid pitchfork waving reflects very badly on real feminists and makes it much, much harder to get our views and opinions listened to.

I do just have to pick you up on some of your beliefs - you must be aware of you gov polling,( this link if not https://yougov.com/en-gb/articles/51545-where-does-the-british-public-stand-on-transgender-rights-in-202425 ). A majority of the uk population doesn’t actually agree with many of aspects of inclusion and affirmation of trans women, in particular access of trans women to female only spaces, participation in sports, ability to legally change gender. Although many women have no issue with trans women choosing to live in their chosen identity, ( particularly somebody trying to quietly get on with their life without impacting on the rights of women) there tends to be a line drawn because many women acknowledge that trans women remain biological men, with all the potential risk factors that entails. Are you actually aware of this and other surveys?

Where does the British public stand on transgender rights in 2024/25?

Scepticism towards transgender rights has grown across the board since 2022

I lived for a while in a country where mainly only positive news got reported.
Any dissenting opinions were firmly dealt with.
Reminds me a bit of certain social media platforms and news media comment boards in this country.

Ah well, at least the grain harvest keeps getting better year on year.

CassOle · 11/08/2026 14:23

I wonder if that poster thought about people with disabilities when they typed 'less capable'.

Its use, however, has dragged up some very upsetting memories for me. One of the worst aspects of prioritising gender over biological sex has been the harassment of women with disabilities who need single-sex intimate care.

GreyskySexRealistsky · 11/08/2026 14:25

I doubt it @CassOle
No consideration of disability, the breezy comparisons to mental illness (not the same poster)

Note to those posters: other protected characteristics exist.

Gametal worship 😂

This thread is gold and it's only the first page. OP, did you mean to start it as some kind of therapy session? It's cathartic for them to let it all out!

Didn't Monty Python cover gametal worship?

nicepotoftea · 11/08/2026 14:29

thegoodnews · 11/08/2026 13:01

Yabbut you gotta admit there's also a 'gametal' worship 'vibe' happening not unlike pro lifers & their obsessive 'fetal' worship.

Are you confusing 'gametes' and 'Tunnocks'?

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 11/08/2026 14:29

You're wrong, women's rights are for women, just because there are women who don't want their rights, are happy to ignore their rights, who are willing to give their rights away, doesn't mean those of us fighting to get back that which has been taken from us, aren't fighting for them as well.

We don't care if you don't like us, it's not a personality contest it's about righting a wrong.

There is only one type of feminist and that's the one who fights for the right's of the female of the species, it's right there in the title. Feminism - the belief in or advocacy of women's social, political, and economic rights, especially with regard to equality of the sexes. Anyone who is actively working toward stripping women of their right's, and prioritising the wishes of men over women is not a feminist, no matter how much they 'identify' as one.

If our activities makes it harder for the faux feminist to get their views and opinions listened to, good, unless their feminism is centred around women, their views are irrelevant and their opinions can be and should be ignored.

You want to fight a cause that's up to you, but you try to sabotage our cause that's up to us, we're not going to allow our cause to be subsumed by a manifestly stupid ideology.

I feel like this whole GI situation is a bizarre Monty Python sketch sometimes (except for the fact that MP was funny most of the time)

People say and do the most ridiculous things in the name of GI

Here's an outside question, and one to which I genuinely don't know the answer.

What percentage of ardent, aggressive MNetters would ever dare to leave the reassuring echo-chamber and post their beliefs / start threads on other social media sites and see how they fare?
My guess is that they'd be - to employ the parlance of the youth today - 'owned' pretty quickly, and by other women as well.

Which, I suspect, is why they don't do it.

There is safety in remaining in your own little walled garden, since it never interferes with your cosy view that all women must think like you - and agree with you - simply because those immediately around you in the same walled garden do.
So, yeah, about those parallels to a cult...

I would also like to answer your question ,even though I wouldn’t describe myself as “aggressive “. I do actually try and have discussions with people but it’s surprisingly difficult ! I’ve had “ I’m not going to debate this” more times then I can count and I also get the “ do you know any trans people” which is always an interesting one considering most of us will know or have met many more women who’ve survived sexual violence or abuse then will ever meet someone trans …. I worked in mental health and consider myself a fairly open and non judgemental person and love to have a good chat about people’s views even if I disagree with them.I do understand the reasons why people find it hard to express their reasons clearly as to why they think “ trans women are women “ in every way possible and perhaps can’t articulate any concerns , as I understand the pressures on women to conform and be nice and not say anything publicly that could impact on their career or friendships. I’m menopausal, no longer working and I don’t have that pressure on me any more, thank god.

DialSquare · 11/08/2026 14:32

Imagine considering yourself to be so clever that you believe many posters to be “less capable” and then happily advertise that you’ve been taken in by the nonsense that is gender ideology.

KindViper · 11/08/2026 13:04

Spot on. Thank you for posting that, and for potentially exposing yourself to the reactive, reactionary aggression of said posters.

So is it that you believe that sex is not real and that humans reproduce asexually?

Maybe I am one of the less able posters, but I have to admit that I am finding your argument difficult to follow.

Which are the women who don't need sex specific rights?

To be fair, I suppose I'm doing the same thing 😄

Although my life is not empty and, in my defence, I'm waiting for a report to be emailed to me so I need to fill my time somehow...

FrippEnos · 11/08/2026 14:39

thegoodnews · 11/08/2026 13:17

To be fair you do ask questions but the problem is sex realists can't or won't listen & that's a function of believing gender is only a social construct & not biologically influenced.

Its a lot like people with mental illness refusing to take their medication because the mental illness makes them think they are fine.

What exacrtly are sex realists can't or won't listen too?

Most of the science that gender idealists put forward has been debunked.
A lot of what they say is about how they feel and unprovable
And a lot of what they say is threats.

The Trans lobby has brought on their own downfall.

A bit like the couriers in the Emperors Court, who were snooty towards those who thought the ribbons on the Emperors invisible suit were red when they were so clearly blue.

CassOle · 11/08/2026 14:39

I want to ask the TWAW believers (those who have stated with no hesitation or doubt that males really do become female due to exogenous hormones) why this isn't a treatment for sex-based disorders such as Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy?

Maybe the lovely Dr Upton could answer this? He's a 'biological female' now, according to himself.

Shedmistress · 11/08/2026 14:42

Less capable lol...the only thing anyone needs to capable of is knowing there are 2 sexes...

All they have are threats and insults.

MarieDeGournay · 11/08/2026 14:45

KindViper I imagine it unfortunately only reinforces the pervading, obsessive attitude here that anything not MN - and Reddit especially - is evil, or misguided, or beyond the enlightenment some of you genuinely seem to think you've achieved.

This not just unkind [which is OK except your username says 'kind'] it is
arch.
And orotund.
Or in more demotic speech: snotty.

It's also generalising, subjective, dismissive, exaggerated, ill-informed, and makes the common mistake of mistaking this board for 'Mumsnet' in general, suggesting that this is the only bit of MN the poster has ever seen.

You came, you saw, you were not banned, you communicated your opinions, and had them comfortably and more firmly re-entrenched.
Result?

"orotund" 😍I love it @MarieDeGournay!

"makes the common mistake of mistaking this board for 'Mumsnet' in general, suggesting that this is the only bit of MN the poster has ever seen"

I agree, and I'm also struck by the fact that new posters seem to have absolutely no understanding of this board and how it came to be. There was a time, not so long ago, when posting the truth even on here could get you banned.

So it's all very well to say "why don't you post on other platforms" when (1) we can't, and (2) most of us understand that MN is one of the few places we can, and that is a fairly recent development.

CassOle · 11/08/2026 14:54

What was it that F. Wallace threatened? A note on a disabled woman's NHS records?
