Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Are we a cult?

I keep reading that sex realists, of which I am one, are a cult. Perhaps a genderist could be so kind as to explain what a cult is, and why we qualify. Sometimes one of us calls them a cult too. Who has a better case, hmmm?

Gametal worship 😂

This thread is gold and it's only the first page. OP, did you mean to start it as some kind of therapy session? It's cathartic for them to let it all out!

SilenceInside · 11/08/2026 13:04

I don't think that having a grasp of science makes anyone a cult member. Mammals have two sexes; mammals cannot change sex. That's not the basis for a cult.

As for "there's also a 'gametal' worship 'vibe' happening not unlike pro lifers & their obsessive 'fetal' worship." - this is so bizarre and unfounded as to be laughable.

KindViper · 11/08/2026 13:04

thegoodnews · 11/08/2026 12:53

A cult is people with belief centred on extreme, intense devotion to a person, idea, or object.

I wouldn't say all sex realists are because it depends upon the individual & how much their lives are wrapped up in it just like any other belief system. But as a long time lurker, I suspect quite a few on this forum fit the description by the irrationality in their responses.

Spot on. Thank you for posting that, and for potentially exposing yourself to the reactive, reactionary aggression of said posters.

This gets better and better!

SilenceInside · 11/08/2026 13:07

I have no idea what you mean, @thegoodnews , although I suspect it's meant to be insulting.

A cult is a group that allows no free thinking or discussion.
Only one side of this has #nodebate and cancels people for not agreeing with them.
Also only one side has felt the need to rewrite history, mis-interpret and then try to destroy those that disagree with it.

Do we ask questions a lot? Do we encourage critical thinking? Do we take what we are told at face value? Do we seek the approval of a group we belong to?

I look at it as reaction to the crumbling away of the intensity of those pushing that to be tolerant and kind that people
have to act in support of someone’s subjective belief as if it was founded in material reality when it is clearly not.

To be fair you do ask questions but the problem is sex realists can't or won't listen & that's a function of believing gender is only a social construct & not biologically influenced.

Its a lot like people with mental illness refusing to take their medication because the mental illness makes them think they are fine.

SilenceInside · 11/08/2026 13:20

Oh, maybe this will earn me another insult, but I am very happy to listen to the idea that gender may arise from some sex based biological influences, and not be wholly socially constructed. My next question would be: what bearing does that have on situations where someone's sex is relevant, and their gender is not?

Heggettypeg · 11/08/2026 13:22

thegoodnews · 11/08/2026 13:01

Yabbut you gotta admit there's also a 'gametal' worship 'vibe' happening not unlike pro lifers & their obsessive 'fetal' worship.

Recognising reality isn't worship.
If it wasn't for gametes you wouldn't exist.

We listen but there's not a whole lot worth listening to.

Come up with some facts and evidence and you might be on to something.

I don't accept the mental illness comparison, no.

They? You mean people who speak of cuckolding? Not a phrase you hear everyday. Sounds a bit...cultish.

Cuckooing seems to be a current thing though.

Apropos of nothing, last time I heard 'the good news' as a phrase it was in an evangelical context. Something to do with gospels.

RunsABit · 11/08/2026 13:28

The claim you speak for, are representative of, or even acting in the interests of, all women as as laughable as it is untrue.
The rest of us don't agree with you. We don't even especially like you. And we are sure as hell unhappy that your particular brand of rabid pitchfork waving reflects very badly on real feminists and makes it much, much harder to get our views and opinions listened to.

Mocking someone for making a sweeping statement by making an even bigger sweeping statement in return has to be the most childish reaction on MN today. Your lack of self-awareness is embarrassing, particularly when you describe yourself as a feminist.

No, we don't speak for all women, sadly. But we do speak for those who have been abused, raped, pushed out, ridden over, shouted down and ignored. We speak for those who may not be able to put their head above the parapet for fear of losing their job, place on a team or sponsorship deals. And we speak for those who can't speak for themselves, the children who are at risk of being brainwashed by woke politicians and Z-list celebrities.

I don't doubt that there will be many on here with whom I vehemently disagree on subjects such as politics, religion and culture, not to mention music, fashion and taste in general. There are certain subjects on which my DP and I have agreed to disagree and not allow to interfere with our relationship because we appreciate critical thinking and are grown ups. But one thing we gloriously individual TERFS have in common is the fundamental belief that human beings cannot change sex and those that pander to the Trans lobbyists are as deluded and dangerous as the misogynistic narcissists they worship.

Lastly and with no apology for the irrelevance to this particular thread because it's always worth reminding people; LGB without the T

Rights balancing is what competing priorities is for & that's why the law has this covered.

Here's an outside question, and one to which I genuinely don't know the answer.

What percentage of ardent, aggressive MNetters would ever dare to leave the reassuring echo-chamber and post their beliefs / start threads on other social media sites and see how they fare?
My guess is that they'd be - to employ the parlance of the youth today - 'owned' pretty quickly, and by other women as well.

Which, I suspect, is why they don't do it.

There is safety in remaining in your own little walled garden, since it never interferes with your cosy view that all women must think like you - and agree with you - simply because those immediately around you in the same walled garden do.
So, yeah, about those parallels to a cult...

Show me that my statement that mammals cannot change sex is wrong. Show me a documented case of a mammal undergoing a natural metamorphosis in which it changes from producing one gamete type to the other.
Show me that it is groupthink rather than reality.

I await your evidence. I am open to changing my mind.

BackToLurk · 11/08/2026 13:36

If we are, is there a dress code? I feel like this is crucial. I’d propose no crocs.

No, you do not. You tell yourself you do because it's comforting, you may even have convinced yourself it's true, but the simple fact is that many - possibly not you, I don't know you well enough yet - posters here have a fixed, ideological mindset that is not eased by its constant reinforcement inside the echo chamber.

That mindset leads them to convince themselves their aggressive anti-Trans stance makes them 'true' feminists and helps further their delusion that they are speaking out against societal 'brainwashing'.
Your employment of the word 'woke', in the negative context you used it, is a fascinating insight into your own indoctrination.

You are not standing up for women.
You are not speaking out for women.
You are using feminism (and, by extension, diluting its importance) as an excuse to push a hard-line agenda designed solely to attack marginalised groups of people.

For shame.

Sex realists can't or won't listen

What should 'we' be listening to exactly?

We've been asking for why and how men turn into women for at least a decade now, and not one person has ever explained so...please feel free to expain what it is we are missing.

CRACK THE FUCK ON...

I posted 'transwomen are men' on Bluesky and was instantly shadow banned for intolerance. A feminist forum on Reddit was recently banned even though the moderators were extremely careful about what was allowed on it. There are very few places you can debate sex realist views and not be deleted. No debate is a real thing and it does the trans community no favours at all. They're going to be very surprised at just how much the vast majority of people disagree with them when people are actually allowed to say what they think.
