Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Are we a cult?

I keep reading that sex realists, of which I am one, are a cult. Perhaps a genderist could be so kind as to explain what a cult is, and why we qualify. Sometimes one of us calls them a cult too. Who has a better case, hmmm?

Well, you might want to reflect on how you’ve been speaking to people for 50 years @Boiledbeetle ! There might be quite a few women who think you’re sexist and dismissive 😬

You know LOTS of women aren’t gender critical, right? LOTS of women think J K Rowling has become quite an extremist. It’s not just men who disagree with you.

Oh yes we know. It's a shame really. Some women are frightened to speak the truth, some are so determined to be open minded their brains accidentally fell out along the way, some women have other reasons entirely for putting men above women in their brand of "feminism".

Thankfully there are lots of GC women (and men) who are fighting for women's rights will ensure that their rights are still there for them, should they ever decide that actually they do want them, and that all women need the protections provided by them, after all.

You don't seem to comprehend that calling female typical behaviours a stereotype is misogynistic. Not only is it assuming those behaviours aren't autonomous as in 'fake womaning' but its demeaning to those who express such behaviours INCLUDING WOMEN. You also don't seem to comprehend an attack on the associated female behaviours of transwomen (gender) is also an attack on women.

You can cut & slice this 'stereotype' pie any which way you like but its still M.I.S.O.G.Y.N.Y.

N.O. I.T. I.S.N.T.

He's a bloke. Stop appropriating words.

Clearly you've never heard of Girls Gone Wild.

Perhaps you need to get out more.

Did Girls Gone Wild do televised discussions on cultural issues?

Can you send links?

After telling us why you think Fred is a woman of course.

Edited, double post.
Still true though

Sitting on stage in a mini skirt with your flesh hanging out in ripped fishnets basically flashing to the audience is not a 'female associated behavioural trait'.

I think the problem is that some ( not all) transwomen and their more overenthusiastic supporters can't get their head round the fact that "woman" is not a synonym for "pornographic sex object".

thegoodnews · Today 08:29

The basis for the mocking is that it is a male person.

A male person who declares that their presentation is in any way ‘female’ relies only on sexist stereotypes. It is not ‘misogyny’. People are pointing out that it is the male person’s acquisition of what that male person believes should be described as ‘female’ is sexist.

Any male person describing sexist stereotypical attire as ‘feminine’ is also the one who is misogynist.

Oh yeah its just so in the realm of typical masculine behaviour to sport a skirt & fishnets.

Talk about a denial of reality

So your rationale for thinking Fred is a woman is because he literally 'wears women's clothes'?

That's it?

You can’t see the damage you might do in the long term to women’s right if you insist that e.g. sharing a photo of someone’s body with the intention to humiliate or shame them is ok in some circumstances actually, especially if they’re wearing the wrong thing?

You think pointing out that telling women not to get their knickers in a twist is a bit sexist makes me an idiot?

I think you know it’s a sexist way to speak to someone, and it’s this kind of sticking up for each other NO MATTER WHAT - even in matters that aren’t about being gender critical - that makes it feels bit cult like in here?

For you, specifically, telling you not to get your knickers in a twist about the non event you’ve been agonising over for about 16 hours now (JKR’s ‘upskirting’) was excellent advice

just because someone is a woman, it doesn’t mean she isn’t behaving like an idiot. Consider it equality

I guess there is no amount of calm explaination that will get you to understand that HUMILIATION is PART OF HIS FETISH?

Which is why I never share these photos, it is literally what they want.

How about if you’re pointing out that they enjoy exposing themselves in public?

And as if Girls Gone Wild just sprung naturally by and for women.

No Girls Gone Wild was borne of yet more male objectification of women's bodies.

It was (is? Gods I hope it's a thing of the past!) men encouraging coercing young women who were under the effects of alcohol into flashing their breasts, or other sexual acts, purely for male gratification.

nicepotoftea · Today 08:35

Stonehenger · Today 07:54

I do worry about women. That’s why gender critical people starting to blur the boundaries about whether upskirting / using photos of people’s bodies to embarrass / shame them is acceptable is frightening to me and worth challenging. I think feminists, gender critical or not, need to hold the line on that together - it’s NOT ok.

I haven’t defended Wallace at all. I’m been saying Rowling’s action is not an acceptable ‘punishment’ for ANY behavior.

As has been explained repeatedly, she did not upskirt him and equally there is no evidence that he flashed anyone at the event. It's just a picture of him wearing the clothes he chose to wear.

It's so much more constructive when we base our arguments in reality.

And on that note, sex exists, it has consequences, it can't be changed, and it's cruel and unethical to pretend to children that it can or that it's possible to go through an alternative puberty. Women need sex specific rights, regardless of how they identify.

Rowling has published pages and pages of work, so I'm sure that you can read the runes to suggest that she really believes pretty much anything, but it's not an honest approach, and it doesn't change the fundamental facts.

A man cannot change sex, even if JK Rowling is not there to tell him that he is a man.

My version of equality isn’t about being able to be as misogynist towards other women as men are. You can think I’m an idiot (and tell me I’m an idiot! that’s fine!) without using that kind of dismissive ‘knickers in a twist’ type language used to put women in their place for decades.

I don’t think misogyny is ever ok. I don’t think it’s ’quite bad, but ok if I personally think the person being treated with misogyny is an idiot’. What are you actually fighting for if you don’t care about women experiencing misogyny? What IS feminism to you?

Pingponghavoc · Today 08:36

Wallace is displaying traits only a man can - to be arosed at the idea of being a woman. But when 'women' means clothes and vulnerability, not being female.

So he doesn't hide that he is male, and wears ill fitting 'women' clothes. He's showing the audience he is male and performing his idea of woman.

To scold women for noticing this behaviour is bonkers, but to accuse women of misogyny is next level bonkers.

TRA would be better doing what they did originally- criticise him then ignore. Then allies can pretend men are 'pragmatic trans'. But obviously some TRA want to talk about this trait, normalise it or maybe want women to see this performance?

TheKeatingFive · Today 08:37

Just to clarify what JKR has actually done here ...

She shared a photo, which has been in the public domain for months previously and been circulated by many people before she did.

I'm failing to see the issue 🫠

My 'rationale' is 'woman' as opposed to female is a personally subjective interpretation when it comes to self identification. That this individual has inclinations towards feminine behavioural expressions like most women do may be the reason for the identification but I couldn't tell you because I don't know them.

I haven’t described Wallace flashing. Lots of the gender critical posters on here have done.

Yes you’ve explained why YOU don’t think Rowling’s behaviour was upskirting or harassment. I understand your points, but I do still think it was unacceptable.

Do women typically have sex dungeons and fuck men up the 'redacted word' in them? And then get drunk on stage and tell everyone all about it?

Can you send more links?
