Today I discovered that Hinge can delete your account if as a straight male you complain about males appearing in your dating queue…

I only discovered this after having made two reports, and it’s Sunday, so I suppose I’ll find out tomorrow if they are going to follow through.

  • [This paragraph has been removed at the OP's request]

I'm sure someone will be along in a minute and ask why it has to be a thing in a relationship at all but given the case I’m following through it sort of has to be out there!

Anyone else completely confused by this thread? I assume the paragraph in the OP that was later removed is essential to understand it?

Yes, I did read the original paragraph, but I can see the thread would be hard to understand without it, especially the discussions about phrasing!

SingleSexSpacesInSchools · 10/08/2026 12:28

Did I enter the mirror universe over night and nobody told me?

Or perhaps cloud cuckoo land?

OP posts:
Lins77 · 10/08/2026 12:29

Anyway the gist as I understand it is that OP (a) wants to exclude men (the kind who have or have ever had a penis) from his matches, and (b) also wants to subtly alert potential (female) matches, via his "blurb" about himself, to the possibility of encountering his GC views, as this has previously been an issue.

(I don't use dating apps so I may not have the terminology right.)

Removed at my request as there may be some way if searching Hinge I don’t know about and finding me

Did they give a reason in writing why you would be banned for this ?

The relevant passage says:
“Transphobia, on the other hand, including reporting someone simply for being trans, is a violation of our Terms of Service.”
And immediately afterwards:
“We have banned members in the past for reporting profiles for this reason and will continue to do so.”

notably I’m reporting them for being male in the female category. Different.

As an aside, I think it's in really bad taste the way a couple of comments have been gleeful about op being "confirmed single". It reminds me how Graham Linehan had it thrown in his face went he divorced. Even some news articles at the time said stuff like "he was so single minded about this issue that he even lost his wife over it".

I got brought up by a divorcee mum and she endured this "damaged goods" shite back in the 90s and it contributed to destroying her confidence. I thought we'd moved on from it. People divorce for all sorts of reasons, it doesn't always mean they're a dickhead.

We know precisely zero about why op is single. We literally only know about his advocacy for his dd. There's hundreds of other factors going on in someone's life, it's stupid and illogical to assume that he's single because of the one factor we know.

Not according to Hinge.

Peak entitlement is expecting everyone else to view the world according to your opinion. Maybe put 'intolerant' in your bio if you want to be completely honest.

GreyskySexRealistsky · 10/08/2026 12:44

Yes, intolerant of men larping as women. I agree, Gretel.

And, ironically, those men and their supporters expect everyone to view the world according to their opinion.

Yes, exactly: not everyone is of the opinion that male-bodied people are women and it's rather intolerant not to accept that

I don't think it's "intolerant" for a heterosexual man to want to exclude biological men from his potential dating pool?

I never said that. What I said is its intolerant to expect the world to agree with your opinion.

Well no but sometimes it saves time to screen out people who's views would make it very hard to have a meaningful relationship with. Which is why ( presumably) you can list interests such as walking, cooking etc.

Lins77 · 10/08/2026 13:25

I don't necessarily think it's expecting the world to agree with your opinion, to specify important matter which would affect compatibility. For instance, some might want someone who shares their religious faith, or not want someone with a wildly different political view. It doesn't mean you're not tolerant of those people existing in general, but you may not consider it to be viable to pursue a relationship with them.

Lexibletheflexible · 10/08/2026 13:31

KnottyAuty · 10/08/2026 10:51

Im sure OP won’t want a 2nd campaign but surely having an account deleted for wanting to specify sexual orientation will be Discrimination under the Equality Act?

ETA Its the converse of that gay wedding cake case from years ago?

Edited

This is the post I was referring to. OP doesnt want to "specify sexual orientation". He wants people who are not biological women to not show up in his matches. How am I wrong in saying that?

You realise this is worse?

Not only are you reporting them, you are also calling them male. Chose a gender critical dating app - I'm sure they exist. Honestly, you deserve the kind of people who would sign up to that app.

You could simply stick by the terms of service and simply not date people you think are trans.

Datun · 10/08/2026 14:14

You have my every sympathy, OP.

It's bloody ridiculous.

A man specifying no men, but that's got nothing to do with sexual orientation??

You'll get a load of men who are quite capable of making their profile look exactly like a woman, but you're meant to be able to tell and 'not date them'??

It's horribly depressing that there are so many men who quite willingly will deceive other men, and women.

Knowing how tenacious you are, I'm glad you're on it.

clearlyy · 10/08/2026 14:16

This thread is so confusing. Edit: sorry, didn’t know I was on the feminism board I was like why are men in your dating queue? I understand now. I agree OP it’s not okay.

“Trans women” are all male. Being a man is the only prerequisite to be a “trans woman”. It’s a basic truth and there’s nothing wrong with saying so.

Lins77 · 10/08/2026 14:37

We are living in strange times when it's deemed unacceptable to call a man a man. Be respectful, absolutely. But that shouldn't mean having to pretend to believe something that's manifestly untrue.

This is bullshit. they ARE MALE BY DEFINITION. ALL TRANS WOMEN ARE MALE

It's NOT OK to put MEN in my dating queue when I said women only!!
