How explain trans ideology to inclusivity trained friend

Hello, I’m trying to explain all the trans stuff to friends without sounding nuts. I’ve explained that it’s not a rebellious youth thing, it’s from blokes in frocks who own some big pharma companies and want big profits, also men in frocks who want their fetishes normalised, also men in frocks who want to perve, also confused young people who are being told their normal curiosity means they must be trans. But I’m doubting how measured I sound, and it sounds a bit mad if you are speaking to a cynical friend that has had inclusivity training.

gCan anyone recommend links to anything that explains all this for the dubious and cynical? I have sent her the link to the actual essay by jk Rowling https://www.jkrowling.com/opinions/j-k-rowling-writes-about-her-reasons-for-speaking-out-on-sex-and-gender-issues/
other suggestions helpful!
im sure I can’t be the first to ask this, maybe the results could be pinned at the top of the thread like on several other threads?
thank you!

Single-sex sports is a very good way into seeing trans for what it is.

Also single-sex prisons.

Are they on them for life? Yes.

Does "big Pharma" make millions out of them - god no.

None of the drugs are restricted or copyrighted, they are generic, as generic as they come - drugs that can be sourced from literally thousands of suppliers. They are as commodity as they come. Nobody has any control over them, there is zero profit to be made on trans people in the pharma industry.

What's more important is that AGP/transsexual men have a justification for their existence in the creation of the trans child myth.
The transformation of a lifestyle/kink/affectation/temperament to a social justice movement/battle for minority rights, could never have happened if the phenomenon had stayed purely as something acted out amongst men.
Once the bridge was crossed to children, everything changed.
From the Dutch protocol experiments, via the likes of Harman legitimizing PIE, the die was cast. And then 20 years of sheer cowardice from polite society.
And here we are.
The problem is, this narrative won't work with normies/moderate trans skeptics/trans on the fencers.
That's why your tactic is best. Just argue against the root of the malaise. Men can't be women, they can't become women.
My worry is that even when you're making progress with normies, it's hard to impress the case without sounding cruel and dictatorial.
So important to switch the focus to women's and kid's experience, that they so lose out, the cruelty is not with us arguing, but trans ideologues insisting.

This is the worst load of codswallop I’ve read in my entire life. What is transgender idealogy? No one can ever answer me with a straight face.

Trans ideology is believing that males can have a womanly gender soul that overrides the material reality of their biological sex and vice versa. My face is straight. HTH

That’s again your “opinion” which you are free to have however it doesn’t mean it is correct.
Science however disagrees!
Hope this helps.

So it's not the statement itself you disagree with, just the idea that pharmaceutical profit is some big conspiracy that drives the movement?

I work in biological sciences so I start with the key concept that sex is not the same as gender. And mammals can’t change sex. Once we agree on those basic ideas, then it is possible to think about - what is gender? Why does it matter? Can we make laws and rules based on gender? Or maybe it is safer to stick to defining spaces based on sex.

I think this is a really smart approach. You can highlight the differences between sex and gender without coming across as 'unkind'.
Talking about the need for legal definitions can also be useful. If you can't accurately define the groups with protected characteristics, how can you ensure they are not being discriminated against?
The Helen Joyce analogy to Catholicism is also useful. Practising Catholics believe the wine and wafer become the blood and body of Christ. That is a belief most of us reject, but we respect this religious belief because the Catholic church no longer burns us at the stake for heresy.
Gender ideology relies on self-identification, so expand on that. What about a paedophile who self-IDs as a child? If the law recognised him as a child he could escape punishment.
Would it be fair for an able-bodied athlete to self-ID as disabled?

I have sometimes started with three stories:

The first story is that Bruce Jenner gave a talk and said that before he started publicly identifying as Caitlyn, he used to go into his teenage daughters’ bedrooms and try on their panties. Not his wife’s. His daughters’.

The second is that in 2022, a woman was raped by a trans-identifying man who had been placed on her supposedly single-sex NHS ward. That was bad enough, but that part can get waved away by people who will say “well he wasn’t really trans, he was just a chancer.” The egregious part - and the part that could only have happened with this ideology being institutionally accepted without challenge - is that for a year, until they were forced to provide the CCTV footage, the trust told her that she couldn’t have been raped because there were only women on the ward.

And the third is the recently publicised case of the young trans-identifying woman who was placed in a male single-sex secure mental unit. She was gang-raped within an hour of entering the unit.

The Jenner story highlights the AGP aspect without getting deep in the weeds of really disgusting behaviour. Also it points to how blinded we have all become to the fetish aspect of this that he felt it was perfectly acceptable and cute to tell this story in public.

The other two stories speak to a number of things First is the fact that if institutions are obliged to behave as if self-ID is law, then they are obliged to override normal safeguarding boundaries and pretend that they have not done so. And second is, when institutions adopt de facto self-ID, look at who it is that suffers: women.

There is no more profit to be had in cross sex hormones than there is in paracetamol or ibuprofen. They are highly generic commodity items.

Is there money to be made in plastic surgery? Yes. is there money to be made in private referrals? Yes. is there money to be made by pharmaceutical companies? No

Transgender ideology is the highly contested belief that human beings have an innate gendered soul, which sometimes does not line up with their physical sexual bodies and that you can change your physical body to literally become another sex.

neither of these is true in any observable fashion and it is impossible to separate transgender ideology from sexist cultural stereotypes of either sex, homophobia and cultural trends and fashions.

straight face and everything.

No that's not opinion, it's fact.
Sex is a biological reality, gender is a social construct.

What got me to begin see this for what it was is:

  1. any time anyone tries to explain gender it’s always about social stereotypes. Ask her what she thinks a girl/boy can’t do and why
  2. crime and prison stats. Ask her, when you consider these, who in their right mind would put a man in a women’s prison?

Sure, I think when people say "big pharma" it would be more accurate to talk about a range of medical professions and industries. So the point is valid, if not always accurately expressed.
Additionally, i would argue that being a "life long pharmaceutical patient", isn't only bad when someone is profiteering from it. It is a negative in itself and should be avoided where possible.

But people specifically say drug companies they specifically use the phase big pharma and that is demonstratably false and so people shouldn’t. :)

Many people can’t avoid being a lifelong “pharmaceutical patient” thanks to their medical conditions such as epilepsy, asthma or diabetes. Plenty of other situations where people take medication long term too, like female contraceptives. Its a state of being that’s neither good or bad - I would guess that many people with serious conditions are mightily glad to be a “pharmaceutical patient” given the alternative if the drugs weren’t available.

”Big Pharma” is mainly an American driven complaint thanks to the unique way healthcare is arranged and paid for in the USA. Does the global pharma industry deliberately create illnesses or damage to people’s bodies in order to drive long term sales? As a whole, no - there are outliers like the opioid crisis in the USA which was also driven by unethical marketing and doctors greed and the crisis hasn’t the same impact in other countries. Does the pharma industry deliberately create new patients by developing new drugs for diseases that are yet to be treated with medication? Yes they do, because that’s where they get the most return on investment. And most patients with undertreated conditions are crying out for them.

As @SingleSexSpacesInSchools said, there’s no profit for “big pharma” in the drugs/hormones used for HRT and cross-sex transitioned. They’re all made by generic medicine companies who make their profit from low profit /high turnover drugs. And when they can’t make any profit at all, they stop making them entirely. Go to your local pharmacist and ask them about the current essential drugs that are in short supply.

(The answer would be a state owned generic drug manufacturer, located in the UK, who could license and manufacture generic drugs to ensure supply for U.K. residents primarily, and raise some money by selling them in other countries where stock allows. But then I’m an old fashioned lefty who believes that we should own and be in control of basic essential services such as water, power, telecoms infrastructure, health, medicines, transport etc on the grounds of the security and welfare of the nation)

SwirlyGates · 12/07/2026 19:47

I would start with asking your friend why we have separate facilities or provision for men and women as regards toilets, changing rooms, sports, rape counselling, initiatives to increase women's participation, and so on. And does your friend think this separation is reasonable?

If your friend says yes, it's reasonable (due to strength, sexual assaults, discrimination etc.), then ask which group transwomen belong in? Because even the ones taking hormones or having surgery are still stronger than us, are still more likely to commit sexual assault than women are (ans probably more likely than other men), and they have grown up male and gained the social advantages that being male confers. If your friend doesn't accept this, well there is plenty of data on our side.

Then, if transwomen belong with men, they can knock themselves out with wearing dresses and make up, as long as they stay in their lane and we don't have to pretend that they have anything in common with actual women, nor let them steal our words. "Woman" and "she" are already taken. Oh, and no indoctrination of children please. Leave the kids alone.
