Scotgov will not appeal and the current transgender policy has been withdrawn. At long bloody last!!

Scottish Government will not appeal Lady Ross's ruling on prisons.

Brilliant news.
Now pay FWS's legal bill, Swinney!

Beowulfa · 23/06/2026 12:50

Utterly fucking ridiculous that money and court time had to be wasted on this. Still, it served as a useful Clown Detector for those politicians who actively chose this as a hill to die on.

CassOle · 23/06/2026 12:51

At long last.

So they CAN tell? Who knew?

IrnBruAndDietCoke · 23/06/2026 12:59

Huzzah!

TwoLoonsAndASprout · 23/06/2026 13:01

About bloody time.

Shedmistress · 23/06/2026 13:01

The BBC will be all over this right?

Columbidae · 23/06/2026 13:02

Wonderful news and finally. They sure can move quickly when they want to.

TheyAreLovelyLovelyPeople · 23/06/2026 13:02

I didn't think that this would ever happen. Amazing!

Well done FWS and thanks to wims everywhere who supported.

So they CAN tell? Who knew?

Yes, interesting. I wonder how they will find them in order to remove them?

Seriously, though, this is Great News! Finally some good news this week!

HenriettaSwanLeavitt · 23/06/2026 13:05

Excellent news. Unbelievable that this was ever allowed to happen in the first place.

Wishesandhorses · 23/06/2026 13:17

Brilliant news! What a relief this must be for those poor women prisoners.

Ridiculous they held out so long and wasted so much money instead of working out the provision in the male estate that was needed from the start.

WeMeetInFairIthilien · 23/06/2026 13:18

Blow the trumpets in jubilation,
Dance a little jig.
Pause for breath, (it's so bloody hot),
Raise a glass and have a swig!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 23/06/2026 13:19

Good. I wonder if some of the prisoners took up JKR's invitation to apply for funds to start a legal challenge. Something seems to have galvanised them at last.

GreyskySexRealistsky · 23/06/2026 13:20

Women matter too!

Forester1 · 23/06/2026 13:21

And they don’t even try to imply this was a new law.

BridgetPhillipsonIsACowardlyJobsworth · 23/06/2026 13:22

This, and the BBC retraction/addition, and the heat! It's just too much to handle today...🙀

Wishesandhorses · 23/06/2026 13:23

Also implies that despite petitions and squirming and wittering the belief at the top is that the law stands and must be followed.

BloodyRoses · 23/06/2026 13:24

Great news!

thisandthats · 23/06/2026 13:25

Does anyone know how many there actually are? Not disagreeing with the principle, just whether this is a bit of a victory of principle and actually in the end it's like one prisoner

Alucard55 · 23/06/2026 13:25

Brilliant.

quixote9 · 23/06/2026 13:26

I mean, yes, finally, etc. But jeeeeezus all that effort and pulling and fighting just to get back to where we were some twenty years ago. I'm having a hard time getting over that.

testmatchspecial · 23/06/2026 13:27

Could it be read that the work to implement this is underway today? Or are they actually moving them today?

namechange62 · 23/06/2026 13:27

Thank goodness.. and thank you for everyone who fought for this .
