Scotgov will not appeal and the current transgender policy has been withdrawn. At long bloody last!!

Bet they are not trans women as soon as they hit the male jails. It would be interesting to know how many decide they are men after all 😡.
My MSP held out against change, which made it really easy for me not to vote for her in the latest by-elections.

I wonder if Miss Morton will come out her bunker and comment on the policy she wrote. Or the many coach and horses she drove through womens' rights.

It has been already documented by a researcher how some of these men detransition upon release. Sometimes after establishing relationships with the female inmates.

I remember the report from a prisoner study where the women stated that the men seemed to be very keen to establish sexual relationships with the female prisoners but then some detransitioned on release.

Yay! Men are no longer allowed in women’s jails. Who’d have thought such a sentence would be written in 2026?!

I’m waiting for the inevitable propaganda piece with a ex female prisoner talking about how she was locked up with a transwoman and how he was the gentlest purest soul and would never hurt a fly (despite being in nick for murder) and how all the women love him 🙄

Does anyone know how many are trans-identifying women and how many are trans-identifying men? A couple of years back it was five females and eleven males, so the numbers have increased by three but in which direction?

Well this is great news!

Had a quick look about the Scottish female prison population and it's tiny:

Apparently an average of 345 women in prison at any one time in 2024-2025. So even the lower estimate of 11 trans women is an appreciable 3% of the entire female prison population.

Will be interesting to see if next year's statistics note an unexpected drop in the total prison population - particularly as it seems a number of the prisoners being moved are serving long sentences.

Not sure all or most are in for murder, actually the common denominator is sex offences. Talk of fox in the chicken run. A full breakdown would be interesting though. How many for fraud, TV license evasion etc?

• has England already made women’s prisons single sex?

It applies to England, and is relevant, but not sure how binding a JR is in general. Perhaps other posters can clarify?

Has no TRA been on yet? Must be quite a conundrum for them I guess. Will they be shouting duscrumination now that TW are not seen as women when it comes to being placed in prison? Or will they say all these ones are just pretend trans as seems to be the newest tactic?

If they are mostly inside for sexual or violent offences, probably they will now be disowned as inconvenient for the Image.

English prison policy is that men can only be placed in women’s estate if they have had genital surgery and weren’t convicted of violence against women.

No Scottish Courts cannot bind the other nations of the UK.

there was a High Court judgement in the English Court where it was ruled that TIM could be accommodated in the female estate.

I would imagine that the FWS ruling at the SC will overide that. It will take the EHRC to enforce the meaning of sex, or a legal challenge to resolve this.

Hopefully since the SCJ they have now changed policy to no men in the women's estate regardless of circumstance.

I'm also looking out for the TRA's arguing that male criminals should be housed in the women's estate.

I wonder how many of them will magically revert to being men again?

Reddit did mention that if transmen went in the women's and were post op, they were more threat to women than transwomen were.

There was a link to a reddit on a different thread. The OP claimed to be a prison officer. He claimed that as soon as a man claimed he was trans he was given his own cell. Even though there were enough of them to share as most of the other lags did. They also got visits from beauticians.

Eta that's a couple of incentives to carry on, there may be more.

Ah, so that means that if Nicola Sturgeon ever gets sent to prison (which isn't as unlikely as it might have seemed a couple of years ago) there will only be women in it.
