It's strange, isn't it? They really can't keep her name out of their mouths. Very baffling.

I try but I don’t have her platform. I repost Epstein voices all the time. I advocate to people I know. I work in this area and so much work is needed but people don’t have her platform or litigation fund to say what needs to be said.
she doesn’t have to. I’m just saying what I wish she would do and why she annoys me. She baits them, they use it to gain more attention for a cause that deflects from the real issue and makes her look worse. I don’t think it’s funny or clever to go after a minority group when there’s the majority group that need people like her going after them more.
but that’s my opinion. You don’t have to agree with me

Would you rather she say nothing and there be no single sex females rape centres, men in womens prisons, women arrested for calling a man a man? Are they not real issues?

I’d like her to talk about lots of things instead of doing controversial stuff she knows pisses lots of people off. I just think she’s better than that. Like I respect her like I said and I think on the whole she’s wonderful but she annoys me.

What ‘controversial’ stuff has she done?

Called herself a terf. Why even engage with that language? Why even give them an excuse?

You think that’s controversial?!

Thelnebriati · 30/03/2026 16:43

If you've got nothing on the woman you want to trash, make shit up or tone police her. Then complain that other women aren't listening to your oh so reasonable point of view.

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 30/03/2026 16:43

Yes it’s quite offensive to trans people. It makes them feel uncomfortable and like you don’t like them. It’s just like why even do it? You’re immediately announcing you don’t like someone else or believe the same thing as them. It might have meant something different in the beginning but now it means someone anti trans. Which in itself is controversial.
idk for a normal person not beloved by the lgbtia+ community probably not. For someone like her yes it’s controversial

Thelnebriati · 30/03/2026 16:49

Its exactly the same as gay people who took the slur 'queer' and owned it.

do I have to hate her or love her? Can I be the only one her usual marmite quality doesn’t work on? 😂😬

hazelnutchoc · 30/03/2026 16:51

I think because she is a much loved figure who people know to be generally decent and that they feel by rights should be on their side given her usual politics she is a huge threat to them, she really highlights that it really is women who are saying to them, no sorry you aren't women and you can't have access to women's spaces and not just a bunch of shadowy right wing US manipulators they'd all have us believe are really behind the gender critical movement. They really want to believe that all women love them and regard them as even more of a woman the bio women themselves are and that we are all just falling over ourselves to let adult men share changing rooms with our teenage daughters. To really see that is not the case is a huge blow to their fragile male egos and imagined self and that triggers typical male rage.

Blueunicornthistle · 29/03/2026 17:59

It’s not really baffling.

She is a very powerful, very successful woman who is outspoken in her defence of women’s rights.

Not only that but she puts her considerable financial resources where her mouth is.

JK Rowling is far too rich to damage financially.

They can’t complain to her boss and she’s too successful to put pressure on her publishers or other business partners.

She’s so rich and powerful that threats of malicious prosecutions or reporting her to the police for her social media posts are ineffective. Not many people can wield legal representation with quite such an insouciant approach to the cost.

Being mean about her, and getting people she knows or is professionally associated with to be mean about her is really all they can do to hurt her.

All the usual tactics are ineffective.

And even their current tactics seem to be like water off a ducks back. However she feels privately she’s not giving any quarter publicly.

Not many people, let alone women, are in such an unassailable position. And even fewer have either her courage or wonderful way with words.

This 100%.

butterfly231 · 30/03/2026 16:51

Look I love jk. You need to be cool with offending people to be an activist. But she’s pissing off the wrong people. Go and troll Putin. That I would watch

@TheCozyWyvern - I didn't know Sanderson was a Mormon! Orson Scott Card was as well, I think, and the Maze Runner author. I just finished The Mistborn series and enjoyed it.

Funny that they are all post-apocalyptic authors.

(Sorry for the brief derail)

There are lots of LDS authors in the sci-fi/fantasy genre. Why, I don't quite know. It's a religious tradition that seems to be more comfortable with the speculative fiction genre than contemporary fiction (though Levi Peterson's The Backslider is excellent, and will ring a bell with readers who have religious backgrounds that aren't specifically Mormon)

Deseret Book, the LDS church's publishing arm, also has a successful stable of romance authors who write clean romance, aimed at women who like to read novels but prefer not to read smut.

I'm not sure what that has to do with JKR, except that there are some people online who say you can't enjoy an author who doesn't share your complete ideological outlook.

Spoiler alert: I enjoy reading Yukio Mishima, because his prose style is beautiful and he makes you think. Enjoying Mishima's prose style does not mean that you're a gay Japanese fascist.

Trans people invented it to make out women hated trans people, when actually they just wanted their own spaces away from men and to keep their hard fought for rights. The word has been reclaimed. I’d argue MERF is more accurate. When has JKR ever said a thing about trans men (females) incidentally?
The only controversy is that this isn’t apparently allowed.

Deerinflashlights · 30/03/2026 16:53

She was not the first person to call herself a terf that would have been TRAs unfortunately for them as often happens in attempts slur someone, the opposition to your views reclaim the slur as happened with JKR. So I’m getting from your posts that you were fine with the part that the TRAs slurred her but you are very unhappy and consider it baiting when she has reclaimed the slur.

yes and my point is why engage with language started in hatred? She’s better than that.

Is 'I really love JKR but' the new 'I am GC but'?

Can I just not expect her to be the bigger person and use her platform for other things?

She absolutely can. I just don’t like the way in which she does it.

NotMyRealAccount · 30/03/2026 16:58

It appears that no woman will ever be rich or powerful enough to avoid being tone-policed by random internet posters claiming that they can't admire her because her words are not sufficiently kind.

butterfly231 · 30/03/2026 16:54

Well, I don't know. I would like to advocate for DV survivors. Unfortunately that makes me unpopular with people who don't like me being critical about the Socialist Workers Party.

So I suppose it depends what your definition of being the bigger person is.

Deerinflashlights · 30/03/2026 16:58

butterfly231 · 30/03/2026 16:54

yes and my point is why engage with language started in hatred? She’s better than that.

You are not the arbiter of what makes her better or worse though are you?

She has her own values in life and anyone with eyes can see she has really good morals and values and is very well aligned with them.

Any of us who have not achieved a fraction of what she has achieved and the level of respect her mastery has earned for her really cannot expect to have the social capital to impact how she views herself. If she feels she wants to engage with people who slur her, then that is for her to decide not someone from the internet who is determined to see her as in the wrong whatever she does.
