Trans people are more obsessed with JK Rowling then they think she is with them

It's strange, isn't it? They really can't keep her name out of their mouths. Very baffling.

I only took in today that JKR's books and DVDs were being burned before the trans stuff – by fundamentalists who objected to her portrayal of magic. And she responded to them in the same way she later responded to TRAs.

I remember the "Harry Potter teaches your kids real witchcraft" takes because of a family member of mine who actually believed it. She would get freaked out if she even saw a glimpse of it playing on the television.

I… when someone keeps making statements that directly affect a group, yeah, they’re gonna talk about her, that’s kinda how it works. It’s not obsession, it’s reaction. Same way any group would push back if a public figure kept bringing them up.

How does defending womens spaces affect males?

At no other time in history would a woman saying on females menstruate, we need female only rape crisis centres, we need our own single sex spaces 'directly affect' anyone else but in this era.

The only thing I can think of is men not having everything they want affects them.

I’m sure JKR will be taking notes on such a stunning display of how to win hearts and minds…

Oh she was great! Plus Howl's adapted by Ghibli so we got another pretty film. (Arrietty, Totoro and Kiki are my favourites of theis). I liked the alternate history novels of Joan Aiken for children as well.

Naomi Novik's my next recomendation - I loved the Temeraire series (like Sharpe novels but with an air force of dragons), plus both Spinning Silver and Uprooted are great.

Katherine Arden's trilogy based on Russian folklore is also very good - the first is The Bear And The Nightingale.

I'm happily bookmarking all book recommendations for when I need inspiration. I spent rather too much, last night, in the Audible sale so I'll have to wait till next month to add some of these books to my Kobo.

For anyone who fancies recommendations for books with an interesting blend of sci-fi and fantasy, I can wholeheartedly recommend two trilogies by Mark Lawrence:

The Book of the Ancestor series: Red Sister, Grey Sister, and Holy Sister.

The other series is The Book of the Ice: The Girl and the Stars, The Girl and the Mountain, and The Girl and the Moon.

Lawrence has that talent that Pratchett had of being able to write really good female characters so I thoroughly enjoyed both these trilogies. I had such a hard time waiting for the final book in each but thankfully he's a speedy writer so he doesn't make readers wait forever, unlike some writers I could name cough George RR Martin cough.
