OP "If anyone could help me to understand, I would be extremely grateful. I just want my daughter to be alive and happy in her own skin as much as possible ."

Responses: "diy is reliable and safe, there are communities that will be able to help, and really all it is getting a blood test every now and then to check how low or high a couple numbers are and adjusting accordingly."

Full details here:

How is this even slightly legal? The pro anorexia sites were shut down right? The pro suicide?

I had sex reassignment surgery in the early 90s. I understand there's an entire menu of procedures today, but I've never been interested in anything else.

What sex reassignment surgery did you have?

The detransitioner lawsuits in the USA are not "fan fiction".

  • Suing doctors and healthcare professionals

  • and Fraud and “Gender transition”

The US political environment under Trump is especially lucrative for anyone looking to exploit trans health providers for cash windfalls. I'm shocked there haven't been more than this.

You are assuming that the mother in question is genuine.
The mother may not exist. That poster could be male or female. The child in question may not exist.
Don't believe that everything on Reddit is real.

Thanks a lot. Useful.

sod this I’m unwatching .

enjoy the bin fire. Hope it gets to 40 pages.

There is only one called sex reassignment surgery. What is your question?

Well I wondered exactly what it was. Like did you have all the parts removed, or parts kept.
I wondered what would happen physically if you stopped your HRT like you were saying. I wondered if you still produced any of your own sex hormones, or if you were reliant on prescribed ones now and forever more, or if you can just go without anything at all and have a long healthy life.
People seem to have a variety of surgery options and I wondered what your prognosis was without HRT.

FWIW, I've taught 4 girls who came out as trans. I don't know what the outcome was for one - she couldn't decide her gender and I was only helping out at her school. The other three decided that they were boys at secondary school.

Two desisted once they got away from school and the plaudits for being trans. (In fact, it seemed clear to me that one girl had friends who more invested in her trans status than she was.)

A third desisted whilst still at school. All 4 girls were what people seem to call gender non-conforming these days. In my schooldays, they'd just have been girls who preferred short hair and weren't into make-up.

The only pupil that I know for a fact is still trans is the one boy who decided that he was trans whilst he was at uni: he had extensive surgery in his mid 20s.

Coatsoff42 · 17/03/2026 18:34

Sorry @tinkerella1 I got completely sidetracked.

Both OP and her child also have other mental health problems, as is so often the case with children who are uncomfortable in their own bodies. Transition is not the solution as those problems will still be there but life will get much more difficult for the child.

There are many posters, even on reddit, who wish they weren't trans. It's really not the answer. Addressing the other mental health problems is a better route for the child even though that path is also long and fraught with difficulties, at least there will be no additional harm to the child.

It's called medical treatment for a reason.

So it shouldn't be DIY then?

By your reckoning it is both safe and not safe, and needs to be a medical or it can safely be DIY.

Make your fecking minds up guys.

CBC levels, baseline liver and kidney function checks are needed, as well as pituitary function. Once on hormones, yearly followup testing should be done to monitor levels and organ function.

So in fact a level of medical need equivalent to having diabetes and other chronic illnesses.

Why would anyone inflict this future and these risks and challenges on their child's perfectly healthy body and future? Even if it had been passed as safe and ethical, which it hasn't.

FranticFrankie · 17/03/2026 19:15

You cannot change sex
Sex reassignment surgery cannot exist (isn't the term gender reassignment surgery?)
You cannot decide you're the opposite sex. Well, I guess you can decide; doesn't make it real. Or possible.
I'd have a lot more patience if trans identifying people would simply say 'I present as a woman' ' I'm more comfortable identifying as a man' etc etc (whatever that actually means) instead of saying they are the opposite sex.
It's not real
Yours sincerely
Sex Realist

@FlumpyLump

  1. Id sooner have a happy transgender child than a dead child.

This is a myth. When co-occurring mental health problems are taken into account, gender-confused children do not have higher suicide rates than other children. The problem isn't that these children are gender-confused, it is that they are autistic (higher suicide rates), depressed (higher suicide rates), traumatised (much higher suicide rates) and so on. In simple comparisons, suicide mortality was higher in the gender‑referred group (0.3%) than in matched controls (0.1%). However, when the models controlled for psychiatric morbidity (specialist‑level psychiatric treatment history), neither suicide mortality nor all‑cause mortality differed significantly between gender‑referred adolescents and controls. (source: All‑cause and suicide mortalities among adolescents and young adults who contacted specialised gender identity services in Finland in 1996–2019: a register study — published in BMJ Mental Health (2024).)

You want the best for your child. In this case that means being highly sceptical of everything you read, even scientific literature. Check the actual figures and think it through. You are making fundamental decisions about the future and well-being of your child. Please read up on both sides of the argument and consider the evidence and arguments.

Have a look at the recording of this medical conference: https://can-sg.org/talks-and-presentations-can-sg-conference/ in case you have not seen this. BTW, this was the response of trans activists: https://juliebindel.substack.com/p/protesters-at-the-first-do-no-harm I think that speaks for itself.

Trans people exist. Trans people have socially and medically adapted their lives throughout history. They are not going to disappear because a minority of obsessed individuals with some temporary legal reinforcement declare them to not exist.

This is the lie . The big lie that all the smaller lies hinge on.

It's never been true and it never will be true.

No one in history has EVER changed sex. No one in history has EVER believed this was possible and they still don't. It's a lie.

onepostwonder · 17/03/2026 16:36

I'll take the word of my health care providers over mumsnet experts.

Your health providers are lying. You are lying. It's all a big lie in support of a fundamentally dishonest ideology.

CAMHS are totally captured. Passing vulnerable kids (autistic plus) over to the gender clinic must have felt like a solution to the huge post covid waiting list. It almost happened to my family and it did happen to a friend’s, their daughter thankfully managed to escape that path and is now a thriving young woman, happy in her sex.

In other words, DIY is not a safe path to take. I think everyone can agree on that at least. Even you apparently

See also FINN5TER, who started out streaming himself playing Minecraft (IIRC) and was paid huge amounts of money by men to stream wearing a dress, etc. all designed to 'crack his egg'.

Horrendous.

Helleofabore · 17/03/2026 20:57

I cannot think that any parent would with some rational thinking time, think that giving their child hormones that are not prescribed by a doctor, not monitored by a doctor and not fully and repeatedly established to be completely safe with no future harmful side effects is ok.

Yet, apparently there are people on reddit who fully believe that they are ok to advise parents.

It is very very concerning. And it seems to rest on that number 5 point which has been acknowledged, under oath by the lawyer who is transgender themselves, plus several review paper to be misinformation and a falsehood.

I understand parents being desperate to find solutions. However, there was such a whack of prejudice in that poster's contribution to this thread and to reddit that I doubt that they are actually looking for evidenced solutions.

ElenOfTheWays · 17/03/2026 21:00

Soontobe60 · 17/03/2026 17:38

Your point 5 - is completely out of order and has been debunked by experts. If you have been told that the choices are socially transing your child or your child dying, you have really been conned.
It’s very interesting that you said you believed your child to be gay. GIDS whistleblowers have stated time and again that the vast majority of children who were referred to the clinic were homosexual, and many of their parents were not happy about that.

Reading between the lines. I think this particular parent is not happy about having a son. Gay or otherwise. She won't be swayed by concerns for his future health and happiness. It's all about what SHE wants. It almost seems as if she hates him - or hates him being male at least.

POWNewcastleEastWallsend · 17/03/2026 21:15

There are some strange deletions on this thread, apparently in breach of Talk Guidelines, IIRC from parents explaining compassionately that they have been similar situations to "Reddit Mother" FlumpyLump.

Or is my memory playing tricks on me?!
