Spotted on the Guardian today:

Raising money for the kimono-clad fox-killer's "Good" Law Project.

Definitely one to avoid!

Sugababes, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Wolf Alice and more to play all-star charity concert for trans rights

Organised by Olly Alexander and the Mighty Hoopla festival to ‘fight back against the politics of fear and exclusion’, Trans Mission will take place at Wembley Arena in March

This is really embarrasingly bad PR. Had they held a modest, more intimate show, with the solid names listed, it would easily have sold out.

But they had to go for an impossible goal. Now they can paper the house, use careful camera angles, and mobilise pet media to try and inflate the event, but its always going to be half hearted and a bit fake.

There's a lesson in there somewhere.

“But they had to go for an impossible goal”

As they do on a daily basis 😂😂

I wonder if it will be possible to find out how much it has raised (clue: it will be a minus amount of money). Presumably as a private company the Good Law Project won't have to release any figures. All that money they raised to take the government to court will instead be offsetting a music event.

It's being put on by Mighty Hoopla - GLP are just one of the beneficiaries of any donations and any profit from the event.

Though I'm sure JM can give Mighty Hoopla some advice on tax matters.

I attended a charity gig (Warchild) headlined by Travis in their heyday. It was at the Astoria (RIP). Bloody excellent it was too. Still got the t-shirt.

CriticalCondition · 10/03/2026 12:23

Looking at the map of availability today, some of the side sections have now shunted existing ticket holders to the front few rows and blanked off the back half of the section.

Lalgarh · 10/03/2026 12:37

Maybe it's actually going to be a huge success and we're all HATAZ.

MarieDeGournay · 10/03/2026 12:38

It's all so artificial: organising all these performers in aid of 'trans rights', i.e. something that already exists - what a waste of energy!

moto748e · 10/03/2026 12:48

Banging on about Palestine is largely a waste of energy too (and does nothing to help the long-suffering people of Gaza). It's all so self-congratulatory.

No stranger to careful camera angles, the trans-identifying community, are they!

CriticalCondition · 10/03/2026 12:52

Yup. The more I think about it, the more I realise artificiality is the defining feature of this ideology. It's all about illusion, delusion, passing off, fantasy, image, cosplay, pretend. Reality and truth? Not so much.

I'm sure the attendees will enjoy at least some of the songs, and the feeling of validation they get from various people's utterances from the stage. And it will get glowing write-ups from the Graun, the Indy and the Metro.

It won't make any money, in fact I predict a financial loss. Still, what price can you put on warm and fuzzy feelings for a couple of thousand people, eh?

Painting windows on ferries springs to mind. And Potemkin villages.

I've been seeing, possibly on this thread, the initialism CMAT. I had to Google it, but I've since forgotten the person it belongs to. It was bugging me because it was so familiar. I thought it might be from an old Dr Who story (cyber MATs?), but that didn't seem right. Finally (thank you Bluestocking) it's CMOT Dibbler!

Just thought I'd post this in case anyone else was having the same problem.

Otherwise, as you were 😊

On a rough count of sales in the seated blocks and an admitted guess on standing tickets I estimate attendance will be around a couple of thousand. Let's be generous and say 3000.

That's not even a quarter of capacity of this Wembley venue. The arena is a small fraction of the size of Wembley Stadium which stands on the site of the LiveAid concert which was attended by over 70000.

I'm sure those attending will enjoy it and there are some solid names in the lineup and I genuinely hope they all have a good time.

My issue is that this trans event will be forever spun as 'WEMBLEY!' (unspecified) and try to cloak itself with the LiveAid vibe. More passing off.

I’m guessing there will be no band selfies with the crowd as the background!

CriticalCondition · 10/03/2026 14:08

I have made a small bet with myself that JM will do a 'HELLO WEMBLEY!' shout out to the crowd.

ArabellaSaurus · 10/03/2026 14:09

Hold up! Robin Ince has in a last minute swoop to the rescue, promised he might attend!

ArabellaSaurus · 10/03/2026 14:13

I'm not quite sure if Robin means his appearance is contingent on an unspecified old white man falling ill.

ArabellaSaurus · 10/03/2026 14:14

Perhaps Robin will otherwise be washing the hair of this older white man?

Chersfrozenface · 10/03/2026 14:14

"..if it's not sold out I might grab a ticket at the last minute"

No, Robin, it's not sold out, you're all good there.

Lalgarh · 10/03/2026 14:14

I thought he was signed up as a star turn already rather than just attending

CriticalCondition · 10/03/2026 14:14

'If it's not sold out'

Robin, tell me you haven't looked at the website without telling me you haven't looked at the website.

He's not mentioned in the line-up on the website.

Oh and BTW, MH or whoever, if you're going to list performances in alphabetical order of first or only names, Bimini comes after Beverley Knight.

CriticalCondition · 10/03/2026 14:20

I don't think Robin has a guest appearance slot.

Not according to GLP's list on their website.

I dont actually know what Robin Ince does. Is he a performer?
