Spotted on the Guardian today:

Raising money for the kimono-clad fox-killer's "Good" Law Project.

Definitely one to avoid!

Sugababes, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Wolf Alice and more to play all-star charity concert for trans rights

Organised by Olly Alexander and the Mighty Hoopla festival to ‘fight back against the politics of fear and exclusion’, Trans Mission will take place at Wembley Arena in March

I dont actually know what Robin Ince does. Is he a performer?

His own charmingly modest website describes him thus:

"Robin Ince is many things. A multi award winning comedian, author, broadcaster, bibliomaniac and a populariser of scientific ideas. He is perhaps best known as the former co-host and co-creator of the Sony Gold Award winning BBC Radio 4 series The Infinite Monkey Cage with Professor Brian Cox."

Regular readers may remember a thread on his departure from the Beeb last back end.

I think he may delight the audience with his EJ Thribb-style poetry and/or some comedic ranting about People Called Brian And Gia Who Have Done Me Wrong.

Well, yes in a way...

He is performative, that's for sure

TheUnusuallyQuerulentMxLauraBrown · 10/03/2026 14:39

I’m currently imagining a ‘The Rest is Entertainment’ podcast episode on benefit concerts that benefit no one…

And subsequent rumoured appearance on Popbitch regarding a presenter who left a popular programme because he'd fallen out with the other arguably more famous presenter's wife.

Comedian. It mainly manifested on the infinite monkey cage in radio 4 by him being snarky and slightly dismissive in a low key BANTER sort of way to Brian Cox. There is a thread elsewhere on FWR . You might get to read his poetry

SionnachRuadh · 10/03/2026 14:56

I prefer to think of him as "Bluesky user Robin Ince"

Chersfrozenface · 10/03/2026 15:07

I wonder whether Robin had expected an invitation to delight the attendees with some of his poetry from the stage tomorrow evening?

Chalices · 10/03/2026 15:26

This is all so deliciously mocking, schadenfreude at its finest.
Far more effective than rape & death threats I would wager.

I should imagine the organisers might conclude that The Most Vulnerable And Oppressed have already suffered enough.

So true. Nice although slightly painful dollops of involuntary fremdschämen as well, just reading things like “night of liberation”.

I’d wager we are enjoying the run up to this far more than those desperately trying to flog seats. This thread is very entertaining. Especially the co-ordinated hair wash-along.

Chersfrozenface · 10/03/2026 16:04

A lot of the thread isn't really mockery, though, just finding things and posting them. Like numbers of tickets sold and people's own words. Reality, in fact.

But there we go, there are those who find reality problematic, to use a word popular in certain circles.

CriticalCondition · 10/03/2026 16:53

Ooh, I'm up for a hair wash along. Can I suggest a sock drawer tidy to follow?

I dont know if I want to read his poetry.

I was hoping for an instructive gif but there arent any.

Cordeliasdemonbabies · 10/03/2026 17:12

I am really looking forward to the write ups and photos. Will it be like those Trump rallies where they take a very selective picture to make it look rammed when its mostly empty?

Yes. Yes, it will.

GC people will be blamed for making the trans community feel too unsafe to attend I'm sure.

ZookeeperSE · 10/03/2026 17:54

Chersfrozenface · 10/03/2026 09:55

It's being put on by Mighty Hoopla - GLP are just one of the beneficiaries of any donations and any profit from the event.

Though I'm sure JM can give Mighty Hoopla some advice on tax matters.

Well, GLP are advertising it on their website as ‘All Proceeds’ - not ‘All Profits’. And that implies the gross takings all going to the beneficiaries, not just the net profits after deductions. And as at least one of the beneficiaries they name is a registered charity, where fundraising legislation would apply, I’d have thought advertising it thus is potentially a little problematic if they’re not actually giving the gross proceeds to the beneficiaries.

My sock drawer and laydee pants need a tidy

teawamutu · 10/03/2026 18:08

Almost no mention of it on trans Reddit. Genuinely do find that weird.

By threatening not to attend? Passive aggressive hairwashing would surely be a stretch as provocative even for Scotland's very enthusiastic Hate Crime laws.

I’d go for pompous, unfunny and in love with the sound of his own voice.
