Spotted on the Guardian today:

Raising money for the kimono-clad fox-killer's "Good" Law Project.

Definitely one to avoid!

Sugababes, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Wolf Alice and more to play all-star charity concert for trans rights

Organised by Olly Alexander and the Mighty Hoopla festival to ‘fight back against the politics of fear and exclusion’, Trans Mission will take place at Wembley Arena in March

Any official photos will be carefully shot, I should think

Looking at the booking website today it's noticeable that, unlike the side seating, the two seated sections at the end facing the stage E2 and E3 appear to be fully booked bar a few returns. 700 seats, max?

Most of the side sections were never made available and the remainder are thinly booked.

Standing tickets in the main area are unlimited so it's not possible to tell the numbers sold.

My prediction is that official photos will be low angle from the stage thus bigging up a small standing cluster at the front with the only full seats of the arena in the distant background.

And any losses on the event will be set against tax.

We know at least one purchaser had seats moved from E1, which is now unavailable, to E2. I wonder how many others did, in order to fill up those two sections.

Well, well.

There are seat filling agencies so I guess it's them?

And a lot of local competitions and student unions are going to get a stash of free tickets imminently

This is quite a boring post but I work in live music (albeit a very different sector) and am puzzled by the economics of it. I'm struggling to understand how they will break even never mind raise money for charity.

Most charity concerts generate their revenue from broadcast sales and building a wider fundraising campaign around that so you aren't making money from the concert goers but the people watching at home. I can't see how this will get a very big fee for streaming/broadcast rights. All those artists will be doing the festival circuit and touring - there's nothing exclusive or exciting about the line-up - people can see them very easily. They will have to create specific merch - and who will be paying £30 for a tshirt for a one-off gig with a lot of random artists who have very different audiences?

Even assuming that they sell out every seat in the arena at around £100 a ticket, that's £1.25M. Even if artists work for free I simply cannot see the costs of putting on that concert at sub £1m - Wembley hire costs, security, insurance, venue staffing, technical and production costs, organisation, artist travel and expenses, publicity and marketing and other fees. It's a complex gig - every artist will need different lighting, logistics, sound set up which adds cost to prep and rehearsal time. Wembley will make a nice packet out of all those £10 pints and pre-concert meals and as a north Londoner I approve of that.

Of course, after Manchester Pride going bankrupt and the general murky arrangements of GLP I am completely unsurprised that the financial organisation may not be the most robust. It may be, who knows, maybe they'll get the BFI (taxpayers) to stump up £1M to make a concert film like they did with Kneecap.

This is from several months ago and not a boring post at all. Very interesting in fact.

It is difficult to see how this event is going to end up not in the red. But then I wonder if this was ever really about raising money.

Lots of lovely photos, the TitWizard and the Fox Killer can add a Wembley appearance to their CVs, the opportunity to wail about poor trans folk still needing support. Financial loss? Meh. I'm sure someone experienced in the intricacies of tax law can turn that to advantage.

According to GLP's website 'All proceeds from Trans Mission go directly to Good Law Project and Not A Phase. '

You'd think that Not A Phase would publicise the event on their own website then. But not even a passing mention.

Apologies. Deep on their shop page they have £35 teeshirts for sale 'in aid of Trans Mission'. Whatever that means.

On their website there are only two links to social media, Facebook and Instagram.

All I can find about Transmission on those are a reel about the line-up and an appeal for volunteers to help them fundraise at the event on Insta, and the same appeal for volunteers on FB.

As to the website, they may not update it very often, though you'd think they'd have managed to do so at least once since the event was announced back in November.

SabrinaThwaite · 09/03/2026 14:34

Is it that Fat Tony appearing at Trans Mission?

Will there be pink bobble hats available on the merch stall?

Fat Tony is no longer Fat Tony presumably because Ozempic.

He did DJ at the Beckham Peltz wedding though.

Crossing the streams on topics here

I thought he was the Ibiza DJ who used to do porn, but I realised now, memory banks stretching to the 90s, that was Derek Dahlarge at manumission

A big arena show expecting 10k sales, you'd usually see hundreds of resale tickets.

There are ten on Tixel listed for resale, currently.

maltravers · 09/03/2026 16:02

It’s on one of the seat filling websites today (Central).

There are about 30 on AXS, the "official resale site".

Almost like those involved have a fairly good idea that it's going to be embarrassing to be associated with this and don't want reminders on their 'socials' (as I believe the kids call it) for posterity?

TheUnusuallyQuerulentMxLauraBrown · 09/03/2026 16:34

current day youth tend to use the more ephemeral bits of social media (insta stories and Snapchat) so it’s possible that some advertising has happened in that particular arena (where we probably wouldn’t notice it, seeing as we are lurkers rather than followers/fans/subscribers). Even so, but weird that Not a Phase doesn’t mention them on the website (and even weirder that the t shirts they are selling are supposedly raising money for the event and the event is supposedly raising money for them. Talk about a circle jerk)!

can anyone be arsed to check individual sm accounts to see if the advertised special guests are doing any promo (eg Shone Faye, Juno Dawson et al)?

EyesOpening · 09/03/2026 16:35

“The letter accelerated his plans and provided a longlist of potential performers, schedules allowing. “We quickly filled all the slots,” Alexander says. “We could have done multiple nights with the response we had.” ”

Are you telling me GLPAid2, GLPAid3 and so on are unlikely then? 🤔🤔🤔

TheUnusuallyQuerulentMxLauraBrown · 09/03/2026 16:39

More performers than attendees is a bit of a problem, eh, Olly?

still, if you give ‘em all an extensive guest list at least us Mumsnet Vipers won’t know exactly HOW dire the dire ticket sales are.

EyesOpening · 09/03/2026 16:44

I wonder if Dawson will tell Olly and MNEK that they’re only gay man as a consolation prize and whether Bergdorf will remember the lesson learnt about safeguarding via NSPCC.

Yes, upthread I took a look at all the biggest performers, who could actually drive ticket sales - not a single one was publicising it on their Instagram. Then I took a (brief) look at a couple of the biggest ones on Twitter/X (Wolf Alice and Adam Lambert), where are currently active - not a peep.

Maybe they just forgot?

Perfect description! Thank you for putting it into words - I was struggling to articulate why it seemed weird.

Well, wherever the £35 ends up, at least the purchaser has a t shirt to keep theys self warm(ish).

Chersfrozenface · 09/03/2026 17:47

I suppose if you're a massive Adam Lambert fan, say, you'd pay £12.50 just to see him do his 1/2 songs.

Would you have to grind through the rest of it, though?

MowingMachine · 09/03/2026 17:54

Somebody send this to trans Reddit, maybe some of them will venture out of their bedrooms for a £12.50 ticket 😁
