Glamour Magazine UK celebrates nine men as Women Of The Year

PoetryEmotion · 30/10/2025 12:56

As trans rights face increasing threat in the UK, Glamour honours nine of the community's most ground-breaking voices at this year's Women of the Year Awards. From fashion and music to charity and activism work, these trailblazers work tirelessly to empower, uplift and celebrate trans voices.

And naturally the article is written by Shon Faye 🙄

Oh no! I don't know what to think! I'm trapped between the Scylla of Glamour Magazine and the Charybdis of IW's tweets!

Maybe trans activism IS all about pouting and flouncing in fashion magazines! What an unprecedented intellectual and ethical dilemma you have put me in, PoetryEmotion!

It's so funny. He's been going on about GCs being the "biddy mafia" for years, criticising us as being frumps, etc etc.

And now he discovers he's not one of the cool "girls" any more 😂

So mostly models. Wow, so ground breaking. No hips or horrible inconveniences like periods or bloating and changes in breast size. Ideal clothes horses and then two who work for a Trans Charity and a DJ. And close to passing in a fashion shoot as well as being young. The Protect the Dolls slogan suits I suppose if you're goal is to be a living Barbie. I would guess many of them are not AGP but same sex attracted males.

Is this the new market for fashion glossies now, increasingly women aren't buying them or looking at their websites especially those who are mothers or working in a low wage industry.

Will nobody think of the strivers like Himdia or Jane Fae or Helen Belcher who have campaigned for years but won't scrub up nicely for a photoshoot. Imagine any of them in a Protect The Dolls T shirt.

Beowulfa · 30/10/2025 13:16

I had no idea Glamour magazine still existed.

ErrolTheDragon · 30/10/2025 13:16

I cba to read the whole thing but I suppose it’s un surprising that ‘glamour’ magazine would choose to prioritize ‘dolls’ over real women.

Don't forget one of the definitions of ‘glamour’ is ‘A charm affecting the eye, making objects appear different from what they really are.’ (Any fellow discworld fan will know how it’s applied to the elves there!)

BunnyLake · 30/10/2025 13:30

Who buys or reads magazines anymore? I haven’t read a magazine in years.

I never came across the term 'biddy mafia' before.

'Biddy' derives from the common Irish name Bridget, a 'biddy' was a derogatory term for a domestic servant - often the only job open to migrant Irishwomen esp in the US.

It spread from being a derogatory term for an Irish servant into a derogatory term for an older woman - 'an old biddy'.

It's not the most offensive slur in the entire universe, in fairness, but it's not a word that should be thrown around in an obviously derogatory way like 'biddy mafia'.

Himdia has always used the idea of being middle aged as an insult, as a reason not to listen to GC women. And now it's happening to him 😆

Wait, what? My post linking to a tweet was deleted? Is that not allowed now?

Let's try again, without commentary:

I know we are in a war and fighting for our lives, but posing in fashion mags while pouting and flouncing about is not trans activism. Just saying.

The lads are welcome to the propaganda wing of the beauty industry. Spare women from it until their readership dwindles to dust ☺️

I looked it up, turns out Glamour UK went digital in 2019. So it's basically just a website now.

Protect the Dolls, eh? Nothing quite like dismissing women's needs and concerns with the sub heading of "‘What we really crave is to work, love and exist with dignity’" quite something to read from 'Enjoy your erasure' Faye.

I would like to. I enjoy fashion.

Helleofabore · 30/10/2025 14:33

A pornified group of men. Women that deserve to be celebrated are apparently just tits in crop tops ...

Swamphag · 30/10/2025 14:38

I'd love to see the unfiltered pics

& Himdia is over 60 so nudging towards elderly?

Me, neither!

One of these men does look and sound just like a woman, though. I honestly wouldn't have known had he not said he was male.

I do. I read at least one every week (Radio Times) and various others (Private Eye, local history newsletter etc) but I am an old buddy

100%. If these chaps are happy being 'dolls', then let them have at it.

Girls and women can get on with just living our lives as normal human beings, liberated from the ridiculous contortions of the beauty industry, and its pornified, absurd artificial standards.

This is roughly the argument Greer put forward in the Female Eunuch, iirc, although it has been a long time since I read it.

Davros · 30/10/2025 14:57

Or even biddy

OverDram · 30/10/2025 14:58

I forgive them after they made Ms Rachel woman of the year.

ArabellaSaurus · 30/10/2025 15:03

Anyway, I'm pleased to see the Bricks stating their intent to 'protect the dolls'. That's nice solidarity.

StElwicksNeighbourhoodAssociation · 30/10/2025 15:31

So, when you get to the bottom of the article it's just Shon grifting.
