Glamour Magazine UK celebrates nine men as Women Of The Year

As trans rights face increasing threat in the UK, Glamour honours nine of the community's most ground-breaking voices at this year's Women of the Year Awards. From fashion and music to charity and activism work, these trailblazers work tirelessly to empower, uplift and celebrate trans voices.

And naturally the article is written by Shon Faye 🙄

It's funny how Glamour has created all these "cover shots" for a magazine that doesn't exist any more. Just like the Independent does for its website. I guess they still identify as legacy press.

I do. I read at least one every week (Radio Times) and various others (Private Eye, local history newsletter etc) but I am an old buddy

I think there is still a market for magazines that provide content that isn't available on line, but the market for glossy magazines has been pretty much destroyed by Instagram etc.

MonsterMunchLabubu · 30/10/2025 16:33

I can’t help but think this may be “rage bait” (on Glamour’s part)? They must have known that this would be the reaction they’d get? And it’s probably led to far more clicks and retweets than it otherwise would have?

I don't doubt it. Which is why I put an archive link 😈

What is interesting about the article is how much the world of "being employed for being trans" seems to be shrinking. Sad times.

Plus it's fun to see the infighting from people like Willoughby 😆

And close to passing in a fashion shoot as well as being young.

April Ashley looked quite convincing in fashion shoots in the 60s, but it was only a matter of time before he just looked like another bloke in a frock

So, when you get to the bottom of the article it's just Shon grifting.

I like the way Shon included himself in his shortlist.

LeftieRightsHoarder · 30/10/2025 17:01

Oh come on Mumsnetters, don't be mean. Remember that these lads are the most oppressed minority on Earth.

As Margaret Atwood said "Men are afraid women will laugh at them. Women are afraid men will kill them".

We know transactivists are just joking when they threaten to rape and kill TERFs. But being laughed at literally kills them. Fact. They said so.

I would like to. I enjoy fashion.

Me too. I very occasionally treat myself to a copy of Vogue. If we lived near each other I could pass it on to you when I've read it!

I do not, however, read it for its political and social analysis, that's what Glamour is for😁

Mentioning Vogue reminds me of a t-shirt I've seen:
MORE ISSUES THAN VOGUE
It always amazed me that people wanted to wear it, but I suppose some fluffheads like to be thought of as high-maintenance. Goes with the pouting and flouncing.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 30/10/2025 17:11

Glamour has always been ridiculous on this issue. I used to love it back in the day but now it’s a shitshow.

Floisme · 30/10/2025 17:13

Fist bump @MarieDeGournay Nice to meet another fashion fan on FWR!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 30/10/2025 17:17

The best “protect the dolls” moment was when that Spanish fashion brand, in perfect coincidental timing (perhaps), brought out an ad campaign “I am not a doll” and one of the shots was of a model eating a massive hotdog 🌭 😂 the TRAs were not impressed

FrippEnos · 30/10/2025 17:43

After many years of fighting fashion brands about the over use of make up and filters, here we are back in the 80s with no idea of what any of these men actually look like.

FrippEnos · 30/10/2025 17:44

Ereshkigalangcleg · 30/10/2025 17:11

🤣 budgie meet mirror

shouldn't that be budgie smugglers?

I'll get my coat.

MarieDeGournay · 30/10/2025 17:48

Protect the Dolls? Some of them are quite capable of protecting themselves, thank you all the same😁
edited to say that it was quite a search to find an image of a female soldier doll who did not have her breasts, midriff etc exposed🙄

No wonder they have no readers.

No wonder they have no readers.

To give them some credit, this has at least raised the profile of a magazine that many thought no longer existed.

Tactically, just the JK Rowling tweet seems to have 1 million views.

JazzyBBBG · 30/10/2025 18:17

I just came to find this having read Janet Murray's piece about it on Facebook which is very good.

All I can say regarding this whole thing is WTAF. However I have pasted Janet's post below which is a lot more eloquent!

Dear friend (who thinks I'm being 'unkind' to men who say they're women),

We're both in mid-life now. But remember how much we loved women's magazines in our 20s: Cosmo, Marie Claire, Glamour ...?

Well nine men have just been named as Glamour UK's “Women of the Year.” A magazine aimed at women aged 25–35.

Now we have both daughters around the same age. Young women just starting their adult lives. And I don’t think you fully see what’s happening here.

Because this isn’t just about the cheek (or the absurdity) of giving men women’s awards - though that’s bad enough.

It’s about something much deeper.
It’s about conditioning (I'd call it 'grooming') our daughters to believe they must accept men in their single-sex spaces.

To believe they can’t say “no” to a man in the ladies’ toilets or changing rooms - even if he gives them the creeps, or his behaviour is off (like “Rose” in the Darlington Nurses case).

And that saying “no” makes them unkind or intolerant.

It's teaching them to override their instincts.
To silence that small voice that says: “Something doesn’t feel right.”

Hopefully your daughter will never need a rape crisis centre, a domestic violence shelter or a prison cell.

But if she does, she’s being taught that she can’t say no to men there either.

And if you’re not telling your daughter that it's okay to say “no” to men in single-sex spaces - or if you’re too afraid to say it yourself - then I hope you never need hospital care or a nursing home.

Because your daughter will have been conditioned to believe there’s nothing wrong with a man providing your intimate care - as long as he says he’s a woman.

I know you want to be kind.

So do I.

But real kindness means protecting women and girls - not surrendering their safety, privacy and dignity in the name of politeness.

With love,

Janet

I agree, women are being trolled for clicks, shits & giggles.

I looked it up, turns out Glamour UK went digital in 2019. So it's basically just a website now.

I used to buy it once because it would have nice little samples and things like that, but obviously that's not possible with a digital version so even if I was going to buy it now, I wouldn't. If you see what I mean. And the fact that it's gone digital only means it's on the way out. No loss to the world.

I guess JKR's just given it a bit of an uptick!

Good job I haven't read Glamour for bloody years.

AelitaQueenofMars · 30/10/2025 18:56

Forgive me, but I ploughed all the way through to the turgid end of that piece. And when I read this: “Put some respect on it, bitch! I look better than you. I dress better than you. I smell better than you. Please learn that and understand that” I just thought, jog on fella (which would be most entertaining in those thigh high boots).
