Awesome news

Susan has been offered a meeting with senior officers at Police Scotland and will be taking up that opportunity to discuss her case and the wider issues raised - particularly the need for women to feel protected by law enforcement.

I hope she takes full advantage of that meeting

It appears that charges have been dropped and no further action will be taken.

Oh, that's good. The investigation was launched, conducted, reviewed, minuted, checked and filed.

Amazing. What speed!

lcakethereforeIam · 07/11/2025 12:08

Although I'm pleased my response is more 'Well duh!' I'd like to know who agreed to even consider charging Susan in the first place. Why the scales of justice seem so slanted. Whose thumb is on it.

NEWS - VICTORY - SUSAN SMITH.
@PoliceScotland
have informed
@ForWomenScot
&
@SpeechUnion
they've concluded their ‘review’ into the criminal complaint made against FWS Director Susan Smith. She will not receive a Police Recorded Warning or be subject to criminal charges for alleged ‘minor vandalism’ outside the Scottish Parliament on 4 September 2025. Police will be taking no further action in relation to the complaint made against her. This is a win for free speech, for women's right to be heard in Scotland and for basic common sense. Susan has been offered a meeting with senior officers at Police Scotland and will be taking up that opportunity to discuss her case and the wider issues raised - particularly the need for women to feel protected by law enforcement. Susan Smith commented: "I am relieved that I can now draw a line under this episode and I am incredibly grateful to the Free Speech Union and my lawyer Neil Hay for all their help and support. This has highlighted how difficult and frightening such an action must be for those who are not able to draw on the help of FSU and who cannot hope to have the same level of public, political, and press support I was fortunate enough to receive. "While I am delighted that Police Scotland have dropped this case, it is concerning that an individual who came with the express intention of disrupting our rally and drowning out our speakers was taken seriously, especially when extreme, credible threats to women are frequently overlooked. "I can now refocus on the essential work of FWS. We will continue to challenge the reluctance in Government, public bodies, and third sector organisations to obey the law as clarified in our Supreme Court victory in April and ensure that women’s rights are respected and our voices are heard." Fraser Hudghton added: "Questions are raised about who mandated the course of action against Susan Smith and whether there is parity when it comes to policing protests. The public expect all police investigations to be impartial and complaints dealt with even-handedly. That has not been the impression given. Police have come to the correct conclusion but only after a public backlash. "Of pressing concern is the speed at which police investigate or charge those who hit a political red button topic. It suggests that on certain issues you'll face the full brunt of our criminal justice system for holding 'unfashionable' opinions. The manner in which
@scotgov
policy wraps its tentacles around Police Scotland and
@COPFS
is of great alarm to FSU, as it should be to us all. The process is the punishment. Bad actors know this and savour it. "With the help of FSU Susan has not had to endure an extended nightmare. I thank Susan for her resolve in fighting back, and her solicitor Neil Hay for his criminal defence work on her behalf."

It's worth noting if you intentionally grab or strike something someone is holding that is still assault in England. Anything that is being held like an umbrella counts as an extension of their body.

Do women have umbrellas? Do chickens cry? Does a chicken have a soul, Chris?

Kucinghitam · 07/11/2025 12:18

Ah, Chris, never knowingly under-brolled.

That's true. That's why I never accept my change or a bus ticket.

If you grab someone to stop them falling from a window ledge that’s also assault. It’s why lawyers always recommend letting people fall their deaths

lcakethereforeIam · 07/11/2025 12:43

I used to shout 'step away from the loose change!', which is why I have to go to a corner shop 15 miles away. They hate me there. I always give exact change in pennies.

Would the charge be Grievous Brolly Harm or Actual Brolly Harm?

I think the police in Scotland have read the same law book you did, that's why they're Muppets, as are you . 🤯

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 07/11/2025 13:58

I actually despise that headline. Surely it should be ‘Police Scotland failing to deal with a dangerous man destroyed my life for years’

women should have a reasonable expectation that the Police will deal with threats of violence and cyber stalking

MrsOvertonsWindow · 07/11/2025 14:34

SidewaysOtter · 07/11/2025 13:32

How the hell did Police Scotland have time to deal with a slightly bent brolly when they failed to investigate predators like this?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cm2wxd278n7o

Isn't that awful? It's no wonder so many people speak about a 2 tier justice system when you look at things like this.

I believe the precedent was set in R v Mary Poppins. It's only GBH if the brolly goes flying...

OpheliaWitchoftheWoods · 07/11/2025 16:30

She really might as well have been hung for a sheep as a lamb and actually put the brolly to good use.

Susan Smith is an "umbrella bandit" who should be doing proper feminists stuff rather than this gender culture wars stuff. According to journalist in The Herald:

" I really struggle to understand what these anti-trans people have ever done for women in Scotland. The fight that matters to me is the one that ensures women aren't immolated or strangled by men in their lives. "

Well good thing this is a SCOTTISH case! More to the point the umbrella in question was being used as an offensive weapon by Harlow and he was attempting to assault Susan with it he should have been arrested

Thanks for that. Next time a angry man shoves an object in my face I definitely will not defend myself.

OpheliaWitchoftheWoods · 07/11/2025 18:26

Well that was his point wasn't it?

To provoke a woman into protecting herself and then enjoy punishing her.

Charlotte Bronte was taking the piss out of bastards like that in the character of John Reed going on 200 years ago.

'...Susan Smith, a director of For Women Scotland, who was heralded as one of the country’s “leading women’s rights campaigners”. She allegedly vandalised the rainbow umbrella of a counter-protester outside the Scottish Parliament last month. I wipe my tears and dry my eyelashes. Frustration makes my nose hairs burn, and I try my best not to let my eyes start leaking again. '

Oh, dear.

Dry your nose hairs, Marissa. And maybe do a spot of research next time.
