Feminism: Sex and gender discussions
Greyskybluesky · 10/10/2025 13:03

Woawwww! Oh my goodness...

AnneLovesGilbert · 10/10/2025 13:05

The entire basis of the conviction and sentence are that Watkin is male. Yet the BBC continue to say she 🤯

PruthePrune · 10/10/2025 13:25

Fuck me, that filter is working overtime.

Fuck me, that filter is working overtime.

If nothing else it's a good demo of just how much work filters do in the TW cause! So often we're told on here about how sooo many TW pass and honestly I think it's because ppl see photos like the one on the left....

TheCatsTongue · 10/10/2025 13:32

Another passable trans woman. It's true you can never tell!

I don't think even they believe it any more - they're just churning out the she/her at this point

Like here: "The court heard Watkin would serve her sentence at a prison for men"

This comment is totally TRA: "And how many women have been abused by Cis men? Surely that should be the real headline?"

Translation: "Something happened that is in the news, and shows a trans person in a bad light. The story should have been about some other subject entirely."

Greyskybluesky · 10/10/2025 13:52

We had a long thread on here a while back in which a well-known poster defended their absolute right to "stealth". They argued it would not be sexual assault – despite the fact it is deception.

Looks like the courts disagree.

LooseCanyon · 10/10/2025 13:57

I remember that thread. What has amused me about the BBC reporting today is that they have used both his pictures in the social media card that gets shared.

I understand that studies show women are incredibly good at telling what sex someone is, while men aren't quite as good. But it is still hard to imagine anyone thought he was female. He's clearly been through male puberty so I presume he also sounds like a man.

BiologicalRobot · 10/10/2025 14:01

Watkin, who was born male, had used the name Ciara since childhood but had not undergone any medical treatment or surgery.

Okay, either I'm a total luddite or something isn't right... how did he get those boobs in the first picture, and can i have some?

FortheloveofPetethePlumber · 10/10/2025 14:03

I can remember another some time further back with a poster not only vigorously insisting that it was necessary that men were able to gain sex by deception without consequence, but claimed to be encouraging and teaching teens in ways to do it. It was not pretty reading.

TomatoSandwiches · 10/10/2025 14:08

Did they meet in a dark alley? Jesus.

I'm glad this man faced the consequences of his behaviour, but I am angry on behalf of all the lesbians to whom this or similar has happened and who have not had justice.

Contemporaneouslyagog · 10/10/2025 14:17

Anyone know how I complain to this bbc report?

That thread was very very concerning. Distressingly so.

There is no way to deny it, I guess. But it is a remarkable case.

Igmum · 10/10/2025 14:56

I feel so sorry for the poor young man who was the victim. He was only 18 at the time and (I assume) pretty naive. Not a good way to start your sex life.

FortheloveofPetethePlumber · 10/10/2025 15:01

That was the one yes, thank you. It's worse than I remembered.

The main message boiled down to advising kids to select their target for sex by deception by which would be least likely to cause the targeter inconvenient consequences. This was supposedly moral and ok because Reasons.

Absolutely. And he won't have been helped by the numerous comments about his naivety in this.

"Transgender woman?"

For the love of goodness. The whole point is that this person is not a woman and pretended to be one so that their victim would have sex with them. This person is a man. A lying, selfish man who thinks his wishes and his fantasies matter more than other people's rights and dignity. An abusive man like millions of others.

And yet we're supposed to tiptoe around his feelings and pretend he is a 'transgender woman'. Can't possibly upset the rapist! That just wouldn't Be Kind.
