Shon does not understand why the 'trans rights' movement got pushback.

Securing access to reasonable employment is something we should be supporting for trans people. I thought this during the M&S bra fitting debacle. However, that means access to jobs both without discrimination, but also without the job having to be a platform for their reflexive enjoyment of their own identity. Work doesn't have to be all about them being trans. It's probably not wise for M&S to train them as bra fitters, but there are plenty of opportunities for them to be managers, cashiers, cleaners, lorry drivers and so on for M&S where their authentic selves aren't relevant because they just have to show up and do the job. If you can do that, Shon, you'll be ok. Though somehow I doubt you can.

If I may say, you’re slightly missing the point of what these men want. They don’t want to be an ordinary person, part of an ordinary society, with an ordinary job, because they think they’re special. They WANT to be bra fitters at M&S or wherever because it gives them power over women, power to humiliate us and control us. The last thing these men are is reasonable, and they’re certainly not this vulnerable, marginalised group they try to pretend they are. They’re predators and manipulators, with a deep seated hatred of women, and for the last few years, they’ve been saying the quiet part out loud. Let’s hope this madness really is on its way out.

Does anyone else wonder when Jolyon is going to come out as gay?

Or trans.

DeanElderberry · 20/09/2025 08:31

The TRAs have been Fascist for the last decade. Grim murderous haters with triumphalist flags and clothes and colours and symbols, targetting the despised out-group 'terfs' and anyone who dares to associate with them.

The old left/right, liberal/authoritarian have been supplemented with a new divide - illusion fantasists versus realists.

Realists accept adulthood, science, social responsibility - all the boring stuff.

Or trans.

or queer

Likeliest of all because it sounds on-trend and can mean anything

Now I must face reality in the form of hungry cats

Shon Faye is usually a decent writer and I was glad to read their book, and thought that piece in the Grauniad about being unable to accept themselves as a woman was well crafted (as well as distressing). But that piece is both a mess and quite frightening. They seem to be as angry with ‘those who haven’t medically transitioned’ as with all women, all gay men, transmen (who they clearly still secretly class as despised women), everyone? I wonder if the collapse of the relationship described in the Guarduan piece has really broken them.

Also agree with what @RareGoalsVerge wrote, every word. But I’m not sure it’s achievable. We can hope.

RethinkingLife · 20/09/2025 08:44

Transmisia is strong with SF.

SF complains about the financial penalty involved in some choices. I should think that women whose career and finances have been derailed by motherhood don’t feel the need to fake surprise at this observation. Likewise the transwidows and children who feel the financial consequences.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 20/09/2025 08:51

feeling vulnerable is all part of the thrill of the role play. there will be a part of Shon that is loving this

He wrote this for the Guardian in 2014.

Men in makeup: lawyer by day, glamour puss by night | Makeup | The Guardian

https://archive.ph/vSP0c

Although it says lawyer in the title, in the article he talks about working in financial services.

So an openly gay flamboyant young man who likes to wear makeup ends up claiming womanhood? Not saying ‘poor shon’ here but more widely it really is a world that got lost in lie after lie with many younger vulnerable, likely autistic, adults susceptible to the narrative that they could somehow (drugs, surgery, or just long hair and clothes) change sex.

There never will be anyone held to account for this tragedy though. It’ll never be known as to who was the person or group of men that were ground zero for this ‘movement’. And that’s a shame.

Though I disagree with shon’s hyperbole in this article as the trans movement is still running and TW still being applauded for their authentic selves and vulnerable young people are still being sold a lie about changing sex, pronouns still being asked, toilets still changing to gender neutral, and men still being included in wsss’s. This is very deeply embedded and will take years for any significant shifts.

Likely only if and when enough young people subject to experimental surgery go on to sue the doctors, surgeons, counsellors and psychiatrists who affirmed their gender identity. The biggest impact is if young adults ever sue their parents for facilitating the transition, drugs and surgeries whilst they were under age.

Or trans.

There is a substantial cohort of bisexual men(married or pretending to be straight) who are trans chasers. JM is more likely to be in this cohort than gay or trans.

miraxxx · 20/09/2025 10:23

I don't think this is the end for the trans movement just the end of its runaway success and the beginning of a pushback. There are enough people still deeply invested in the movement to keep it rolling for a decade or two.

He's the prime age for a trip to Malaga, but IME the middle aged men who make that trip are not nearly as camp as JM.

eatfigs · 19/09/2025 21:55

Agreed but I think he's right about them becoming less employable and treated with suspicion.

Well if they are that's their own fault 🤷🏼‍♀️

FortheloveofPetethePlumber · 20/09/2025 10:53

Good grief what a lot of drama and hyperbole.

As usual most of the claimed ills exist only the head of the writer, with absolute refusal to let any any of the reasons raised in the very long court cases about why and how this has not worked for women and is not acceptable or legal, get anywhere near them.

This is why women need protections in law. Some men aren't ever going to acknowledge those women having inconvenient rights or see them as anything more than service resources.

Daleksatemyshed · 20/09/2025 11:18

So basically this whole piece is one long whinge, they thought they'd found the gravy train but now it's hit the buffers. If they hadn't been so threatening, demanding and all round spiteful I might feel an iota of pity but they blew that long ago.

FortheloveofPetethePlumber · 20/09/2025 11:46

Agree.

I don't wish anybody ill.

But I have no pity or time for someone having a pout and whine because they're angry that they are no longer able to get away with abusing and using non consenting women, and seeing children medically harmed. That would be a 'them' problem.

Schadenfreude, thy name is Shon.

It's all a bit Icarus-like isn't it?
Crashing into the ocean and drowning because, despite warnings, he flew too high on wings that were a but poor imitation of the real thing.
Sad times.

Here's a blast from the past

That’s what you get as a budgie for pecking your reflection in the mirror more than exercising your wings. When you need them to fly to the sun, they let you down.

cos Labour still recognise them innit

Well Shon, trans activists like you didn’t just try to take a mile instead of an inch, you tried to take the whole fucking lot.
Thank fuck for those pesky women on TERF island.

It's starting - detransitioner Chloe Cole's medical malpractice suit against Kaiser is going to court, alleging medical malpractice, negligence, battery, and lack of informed consent.

I'm more concerned about the perfectly unobjectionable trans people who will now be less employable and more at risk of discrimination due to the behaviour of people like Shon Faye over the last decade.

Then they shouldn't have tacitly agreed with such people and taken the privileges TAs fought for as rights. They shouldn't have stood back and allowed the transing and indoctrination of kids. No innocents in this movement. Except the children. No sympathy from me.

FortheloveofPetethePlumber · 20/09/2025 13:54

I agree, although I'm not sure 'fought for' is the right term. Wangled, fiddled, snatched and grabbed, deceived and conned to trample women's legal rights and equalities, those would be interesting words to consider. None of it done in the open, with #nodebate being shouted loudly and women threatened for resisting. This was at no point a civil rights movement or anything to admire.

CaptainCarrotsBigSword · 20/09/2025 14:04

Helleofabore · 19/09/2025 20:55

Never thought I would see a paragraph like this.

The middle-class trans micro-economy that boomed in the 2010s: Pride month corporate sponsorship, jobs at LGBT charities, DEI talks and panels, diversity modelling and ad campaigns, progressive theatre, educational books about being trans etc, which some of us used to make a living, has gone. A friend and I used to riff on the old Susan Stryker joke that as a trans woman you must commodify yourself one way or another: it’s either escorting or the diversity and inclusion panel.

Blimey. In plain sight. So… not just ideological but apparently lucrative too.

Or, just, have a job like any other person?
