Also...

The pictures are adorable! I feel very majestic and the tiny gerbils in their little waistcoats are gorgeous. Thank you 💙

Another square.

This one is a weave: Purl 2 Cross all the way to the border, then Knit 2 Cross on the next row.

Purl 2 Cross = Purl the second stitch on the left needle but don't slide it off, then purl the first stitch and slide both stitches off.
Knit 2 Cross = Knit into the back loop of the second stitch, but don't slide it off, then knit the first stitch normally and slide them both off.

Doing bobbles now which are a lot of fun.

Oh Tazzy. Of course you should be reasonable. And that is exactly what you are being. Anybody who tells you different can FOTTFSOF. It's your experience and your response. XXX

This is the bobble square with letters. There is a version in Braille.

I did miss out a row when I was knitting the bottom two letters but I think it's OK.

To make a bobble:

  1. Increase a single stitch to three stitches as follows:
  2. Knit the stitch without sliding it off the needle;
  3. Knit into the back loop of the same stitch, again without sliding it off the needle
  4. Knit the same stitch a third time knitwise and slide off the needle.
  5. Turn the work round so you're working on the wrong side and the left needle is in your right hand and the right needle is in your left hand.
  6. Purl the three stitches.
  7. Turn the work round again so you're working on the right side.
  8. Knit the three stitches.
  9. Turn the work round again so you're working on the wrong side.
  10. Purl the three stitches.
  11. Turn the work round for a final time, so you're working on the right side.
  12. Decrease the three stitches to one as follows:
  13. Slip the first of the three stitches knitwise.
  14. Knit the next two stitches together.
  15. Slip the slipped stitch over the stitch you've just made.
  16. Ensure the bobble is on the right side of the work.

I've written out all the steps because the original pattern didn’t fully explain or break down the method as easily. It was really easy once I worked out what the steps were.

And of course, the bobbles spell LOVE in blue for everyone at the Bluestocking.

More brill knitting, Myrtle! Before I read your post, and before I looked closely at the photo, I thought it was two X chromosomes😄
On closer inspection, a bit of one of the Xs is missing, making it an XY.
So I was pleased to read that it says LOVE💙

October 10th - XX day of XX month - is the alt.women's day, so you could use this stitch to knit XX bannersSmile

Hours of fun deciding who to put on our knitted jumpers, Igneo😀

I like the idea of XX in bobbles...

I'll have to design my own pattern...

(How far is this knitting obsession going to take me?)

A propos of nothing...
I'm waiting for someone to come and fix a kitchen appliance - nothing major, it's external, not in the complicated guts of the thing, fortunately.
So 'An Engineer' will be here soon.

What is the likelihood that The Engineer will be a man? Pretty much 100%. I had a woman who did the boiler service once, that's it.

When I hear about 'Women in Engineering' etc., it always seems to be about graduate jobs, never about the the technician-level jobs that keep things working...

Even more amazing that Myrtle only started knitting a little over three months ago.

She warned us she would only make one of everything & then move on to something new & challenging, & by golly she's sticking to that!

Deano, love the 'elsethread' upthread.

Deano, love the 'elsethread' upthread.

I've been working my way through two knit-along blankets.

The first one was 30 squares with different knit and purl patterns.

The second one is 48 squares included more complicated stitches based on knit and purl, as well as cable, and bobbles. I knitted the basic squares then turned my attention to the more complicated ones which I am now doing.

I am annoyed as one was called a weave (which I posted upthread) and another was called criss-cross but now I've looked at the patterns, they're both the same stitch.

So I've found another pattern which I've adapted to replace the criss cross pattern.

After this one I have three left from the original knitalong, but if I find them difficult, I'll replace them with other patterns. It's because I'm using aran wool which is thicker than double knit. I think if I was using DK, they might be easier.

At some point I must turn all these squares into blankets and I've ordered some more teal wool for the borders.

Then I will try socks and hats.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 23/09/2025 15:52

This Persian Dreams blanket is the one I’d like to try next - but I’ve got several other projects to do first. I’m thinking of doing it in just 2 colours - maybe fuchsia and cream.

Im also considering buying more yarn and making more hydrangeas, because I did love doing them. But it is hard to sneak new yarn into the house with dh working from home! 😂😂😂

Persian Dreams pattern by Jenise Hope

Dreaming of Persia? I have been ever since I began knitting this blanket! Hexagon motifs are grafted together to create a complex web of colorwork, all in eastern inspired motifs.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 23/09/2025 15:56

That's my problem since DH retired!

Taztoy · 23/09/2025 16:05

I’ve been accused of having - and I quote - ten ton of wool.

To be fair he’s not far off … 😂

yes…
as the proud possessor of an Engineer DD who true to its etymology is ingenious, the people who come to fix things should be called technicians, mechanics etc and ‘engineer’ given its correct status as it is in Europe. But you’re absolutely right that while there aren’t yet anything like enough women Engineers, there really should be more women technicians too. There’s lots of types which don’t require brute strength, being smaller can even be an advantage.

Of course nowadays there are quite a lot of domestic repairs which women are doing themselves having found a helpful YouTube … likely to be child’s play compared with knitting bobbles.😂

I had a job where I was called an 'engineer' but was actually a technician - I use to explain '..but not a graduate engineer'.
I'd have been just as proud to be the only women technicianSmile
There has been quite a bit of progress in some areas of work, but the technician/trade level remains resolutely male-dominated.

Lidl have a range of DIY tools called Parkside, and the 'face' of Parkside in the TV ads is...Arnold Schwarzenegger!

The vast majority of the images are of men using the tools - the occasional woman is allowed handle a hedge trimmer or something else garden-related, but it is all about manual and skilled work, and DIY, being exclusively for men.
You'd think it was 1925 not 2025😠

And then they wonder why more girls don't take up manual trades..

Magpiecomplex · 23/09/2025 17:40

Trying not to out myself here, but I teach two different courses and I'm always surprised that the more traditionally female of the two industries is 2:1 boys to girls and the one where the stereotype is that only men do it is 1:1!
