yes…
as the proud possessor of an Engineer DD who true to its etymology is ingenious, the people who come to fix things should be called technicians, mechanics etc and ‘engineer’ given its correct status as it is in Europe. But you’re absolutely right that while there aren’t yet anything like enough women Engineers, there really should be more women technicians too. There’s lots of types which don’t require brute strength, being smaller can even be an advantage.

Of course nowadays there are quite a lot of domestic repairs which women are doing themselves having found a helpful YouTube … likely to be child’s play compared with knitting bobbles.😂

Last person to fix an appliance was in January. It was a woman who replaced a broken circuit board in the washing machine that had fried when an update was sent over WiFi.

Top image is the fried board.

I’ve been accused of having - and I quote - ten ton of wool.

To be fair he’s not far off … 😂

I remember when I was mostly doing quilting & DH said to someone, "The only room in the house without fabric in it is the bathroom," & I said, "Er... I don't like to tell you, but...". 😂

Any pix of the dog jacket yet? With dog if poss.😍

Can I tell you all a secret?

A really big one because no one knows yet except my boyfriend. And no. I’m 56. I’m not pregnant.

Go on then. No-one but us will ever know. It's not like you're on an international public forum or anything.

I've been working my way through two knit-along blankets.

The first one was 30 squares with different knit and purl patterns.

The second one is 48 squares included more complicated stitches based on knit and purl, as well as cable, and bobbles. I knitted the basic squares then turned my attention to the more complicated ones which I am now doing.

I am annoyed as one was called a weave (which I posted upthread) and another was called criss-cross but now I've looked at the patterns, they're both the same stitch.

So I've found another pattern which I've adapted to replace the criss cross pattern.

After this one I have three left from the original knitalong, but if I find them difficult, I'll replace them with other patterns. It's because I'm using aran wool which is thicker than double knit. I think if I was using DK, they might be easier.

At some point I must turn all these squares into blankets and I've ordered some more teal wool for the borders.

Then I will try socks and hats.

Hats are dead easy (I have made tons of them) but socks are something I have no wish to tackle.

Honestly, since my grandchildren got past the age where they didn't care what they wore so anything nana knitted would be good enough, I haven't knitted a thing.

Taztoy · 23/09/2025 18:41

Socks are great!!! And I love a hat. Done on 4 needles or circulars so no sewing up!!

Taztoy · 23/09/2025 18:41

And thank you all!!

Taztoy · 23/09/2025 18:47

No pink ink.

It’s not a fiction book 🤣🤣🤣

are you going to give us any clues re subject if not title?

That's just awesome!

I have a super simple sock pattern and have lost count of the number of pairs I've knitted over the years. Plain stocking-stitch, but wonderful self-patterning yarns, Sadly, increasingly arthritic thumbs and one index finger mean I don't knit anywhere as near as much as I once did.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 23/09/2025 19:31

I have a pair of socks that I started knitting mumblemumblemumble years ago, but have yet to finish. One sock is complete, and the other one just needs the last couple of inches of the foot knitting, before I can give them to dh.

Every so often, I come across them, when I’m sorting out my yarn stash, and say to myself “Oh yes - must finish these”. Spoiler alert - I do not ever actually finish them.

Oh well - maybe one day!

subject is something that everyone else thinks is dead boring 🤣🤣🤣🤣

No one will ever buy it for fun let’s say that much 😜

FuzzyPuffling · 23/09/2025 19:36

Ooh Tazzy, is it a school set text? I hear that's the best way to make money from writing.
Unless you're JKR!

have you asked Boily to do some illustrations for you yet?

MarieDeGournay · 23/09/2025 19:56

Oooh Taz, that was quite the revelation😀
We wouldn't care a bit that it was non-fiction and allegedly dead boring, I think I speak for us all when I say that we are the kind of people who find the kind of things that other people feel dead boring not dead boring😂

Going back a bit - Woley, that Persian pattern looks superb, can't wait to see the photos when you've done it!

Myrtle, do you realise that ' teal wool for the borders' can be sung to the tune of 'Three Coins in the Fountain'?😁
