Grayson Perry..

I’ve always had a lot of time for Grayson Perry- but I saw a couple of pictures on a thread, bizarrely enough, about Sewing Bee,of him wearing what appeared to be an erect dildo at a charity event. While I am prepared to believe anything about the behaviour of men, this does seem distinctly out of character. Is there a background story I need to know, or do I have to add him to my list of shits

I know. Strictly has got a bloody drag queen in it this year, and I'm desperately hoping it won't ruin it because Strictly is a love of mine. I know it's not 'proper' dancing (I've danced a lot and know some of the people who work teaching the celebs) but I've watched it since the second series and I bloody love it.

Sewing Bee is another one, there was a non-binary 'they/them'-pronouned DEI person on it last year. I couldn't bloody watch that performative shite being fawned all over.

Used to adore Bake Off but the last good year was when Nadiya won. The move to C4 was one of the last nails in the coffin, alongside the change in presenters (Pru grinds my gears, I can't bear Noel Fielding's "Ooh, I'm so KOOKY!") and Paul Hollywood gives me the ick.

But other than that, Mrs Lincoln, how was Strictly/Sewing Bee/Bake Off?😀

Do we have a book on how long the drag queen lasts beyond his ability?

As for the DQ, I should well imagine he will outstay his ability on the show due to tactical voting. If he isn't in possession of two left feet and the sort of natural rhythm you'd associate with a bucket of sand, he'll probably make the final. Be interesting to see what Revel-Horwood makes of him, as he's done drag himself (but proper drag, not hideous womanface shite). I hope he's utterly unforgiving!

It's time for new laws to be put in place to protect people.
AGP has grown rapidly in the last 10 years.
You shouldn't be able to become part of someone else's sex life without consent.
Perry and blokes like him are using the breaking of boundaries, access to women and children and single-sex spaces to sexually arouse and pleasure themselves. They sneak around and get away with it as people just don't understand what's happening.
I was reading the law on indecent exposure which can only be proved if the person exposing themselves intended to cause shock or alarm - how can you prove someone's thoughts or intentions?!
Enough of the law and government pretending this is not a problem.

I always thought he was a creepy weirdo with shit art. Being an honest creepy weirdo doesn't make it any better, in fact I'd much prefer he kept it all private.

I totally agree but keeping it private doesn't work for these men, it's people's reactions they want. It would be pitiable if it wasn't so repulsive.

LizzieSiddal · 27/08/2025 13:47

I recently went to see The Merry Wives Of Windsor at The Globe. Two of the characters had exactly the same things sticking out, throughout the whole show. There were children there and I felt really disturbed by it. As a pp said, the Arts really like to push boundaries and they need to stop when children are around.

CatHairEveryWhereNow · 27/08/2025 13:49

There was a million other inspirations the sewing bee could have used instead of him, and his perve inspired dresses. But they picked him.

This - but then BBC enabled Savile for decades.

CurlewKate · 27/08/2025 13:50

I think my beef with Strictly in particular is that I love a same sex couple-particularly if one of them is Johannes- and they’re going to tick the diversity box with a drag queen.

Drag isn’t an identity, it’s a job!!

I think because cod pieces were "in fashion " it was probably seen as costume and nothing else. I mean i don't think it is appropriate but probably "in keeping" with the period.

Yes, I did know about “cod pieces” but always seen them more like a padded pouch, the ones at the Globe are basically a cock shape (can’t believe we’re discussing this…). It’s pushing boundaries imo.

Well, as we’ve already seen on this thread, Grayson Perry said he didn’t enjoy it so much when people stopped being shocked. So he’s kind of outed himself.

Yes you are probably right with the boundary pushing.

I agree, the codpieces you see in Tudor paintings are more like the kind of protectors that Ballet dancers and sportsmen wear. They don’t resemble an erection.

DelphiniumBlue · 27/08/2025 14:19

Creepy pervert.

localnotail · 27/08/2025 14:19

Not trying to justify GP but wonder if that black dildo meant to be more of a contemporary (rubbery) reference to a codpiece rather than pretend to be actual member sticking out?

Though I'm still speechless he has decided to wear this outfit to a children's event. Has he ever been questioned about it?

DoubleShotEspresso · 27/08/2025 14:21

I cannot believe we need two pages of discussion about the very lear wrongness of this.
5-10 years ago this man would rightfully have been arrested and/or sectioned. I look forward to those days returning.

On what planet would a codpiece go with that ‘girlish’ outfit?Confused

This is an ancient picture. He’s vile.

Dogsrbrill · 27/08/2025 14:46

And look how he's positioned the cod piece in relation to the child's face in the photo

It doesn't. I'm just saying its provably a bizarre "fashion" statement on his part which is in line with other weird stuff he does (we are talking here about an old man who dresses like a little girl, come on!)

But the combination of this outfit and the event he is wearing it to is totally creepy.

To be fair, if you look at various paintings and history of this item some of them do stick out in a way which would not be acceptable today, and do not look like pouches at all.

ErrolTheDragon · 27/08/2025 14:51

The French term ‘braguettes’ is quite funny.

I haven’t RTFT, but I need to mention Dave who works in Asda in case nobody else has.

If Dave turned up to a kids’ charity event with that thing strapped on, would everyone say “hehehe, what a character” and let him get on with it? Because I think not, given Dave’s lack of status as a celebrity and “edgy” artist.
