What would you actually do if you saw a transperson in the wrong toilet/changing room for their sex?

FattyMcFattyArse · 24/08/2025 18:47

I've been pondering this ever since the FWS decision and since I saw an obviously male transperson using the ladies at a service station. I initially froze and wanted to say something, but all my Britishness and female social conditioning made me just mutter under my breath and walk away in disgust.

What would you do?

What have you done?

What is the right thing to do?

They don't belong there, according to the law.

If they’re minding their own business and getting on with what they need to do eg using the loo or getting changed I’d just do the same. I’ve been at venues with unisex toilets and used them with no issue.

But in this example, it is not a unisex toilet.

Kick em in the balls!
Assuming they had any🤔

No you wouldn’t.

Presumably you were aware you were using a Unisex toilet however and was able to make an informed choice.
Biological males using a female indicated toilet/changing area takes that away from them.

Do you always turn your head if you see someone breaking the law?

A lot of people do....which I also find deeply disappointing. You often hear stories of people who have been attacked/abused on public transport or in public places and they often recount how nobody stood up for them, or even said anything.

SprayWhiteDung · 24/08/2025 20:01

To the women who say they wouldn't care, would mind their own business etc... what would you do if lots of men routinely started using the women's facilities?

Not men who claim to be anything other than men, but maybe they 'just' think the women's toilets will probably be cleaner or... other reasons?

If you would object to women's toilets becoming de facto anybody's toilets (whilst the men's still remain reserved just for men, of course), what is the actual difference?

How many men who have deliberately chosen to use women's toilets would you accept before you'd say enough is enough?

TomatoSandwiches · 24/08/2025 20:01

Sorry @Shortshriftandlethal that was for @over50andfab

The OP said how would you respond to someone of the 'wrong' sex using a facility meant for the other sex.

Gosh maybe you’re right? Could it possibly have been a joke? We’ll never know…

If they are a cis man, they've walked in the wrong facilities and presumably would want to know.

If a transwoman then I need further info. As we've all heard, some will have been using these facilities for 20 year with no issues. They may or may not have a GRC.

They may also experienced violence using the male facilities, so that's on my short survey too as it's very important transwomen are safe too.

I've been doing my pelvic floor exercises in preparation, as well as collecting IKEA pencils!

They’re still not allowed in the women’s
whatever their circumstances, GRC or not.

Alternatively you’ll need more pencils to ask all the women wanting to use the loo at the same time as a man what their personal preferences and life experiences are.

If I was checking all that out id have wet myself before I’d ran out of IKEA pencils

( pelvic floor exercises are male doctors excuses not to deal with women’s issues…..and pointless after three kids and twins. Sadly )

Coolwaterscoolcool · 24/08/2025 20:05

How do you know they are a trans women? I am over 6ft tall with very short hair- it worries me that people could now think I am trans women. How do I prove I was born a women??

BeLemonNow · 24/08/2025 20:06

I'd also check this alleged trans person wasn't a butch lesbian.

How can you tell who is a 'genuine' transwoman?

And also sadly, female nurses go along with this pretence.

Agree this is not a Unisex toilet dilemma / thread

Any sex can use Unisex
Only one sex can use single sex

If I desperately needed to go, I'd hand over my short survey and pop to the loo first. Didn't want to overcomplicate anything.

Nevertrustacop · 24/08/2025 20:09

I've reported to staff. God knows what staff member did about it though as the perpetrator was an enormous performance type drag queen.

If women do nothing like some on this thread it would be too late by then

Before you know it we’re back to losing single sex changing rooms etc aswell

EagerLemonHiker · 24/08/2025 20:11

I said ( in JL ladies changing room whilst looking him in the eye ) ‘I don’t agree with men being allowed in women’s changing room’s’. He left but then reported me for being offensive. FFS.

thejadefish · 24/08/2025 20:11

I would turn round and leave unless I was absolutely desperate. I would be too scared to confront him in case he became violent. If DD7 was with me and we were there for her I suppose I'd have to stay rather than have her wet herself but I'd stand at her door to wait even if it was cramped instead of the sink as I usually would. I probably wouldn't go there again if I could avoid it.

Numbersaremything · 24/08/2025 20:12

My cousin, a farmer, took the difficult decision to transition around 30 odd years ago. It was accepted in the very rural area they live in. If I spotted them heading towards the ladies, I would probably go with them to ensure they were treated with dignity and respect.
