What would you actually do if you saw a transperson in the wrong toilet/changing room for their sex?

I've been pondering this ever since the FWS decision and since I saw an obviously male transperson using the ladies at a service station. I initially froze and wanted to say something, but all my Britishness and female social conditioning made me just mutter under my breath and walk away in disgust.

What would you do?

What have you done?

What is the right thing to do?

They don't belong there, according to the law.

There aren’t any “passable trans men” that look like “trans women”. The latter group are 99 times in a hundred very obvious looking men presenting themselves in a stereotypically “feminine” way as interpreted by men. Hardly any of them pass as female, and if they did, there wouldn’t be an issue for them, would there? Women mostly don’t want them there, but we wouldn’t know as they pass, and who cares what they think, right? It’s all about meeeee.

😂 but you are talking about confronting people you "know are men". Just genuine intrigue about how you would "know"as your spider senses are tuned to confront men in the ladies loos - what if the person is a VERY passable trans man. Then you are curtailing another woman's rights... it's all a bit of mess isn't it?

But the Supreme Court dealt with that. Aldo we have had quite a few transmen on here stating they don’t use women’s facilities for this very reason. They don’t want to cause alarm and distress to women. So if transmen can be do reasonable, why can’t males with a trans identity? Is it the female socialisation that means transmen are more inclined to put others first?

No it’s not. You’re using an extreme case as an example. Most transmen only pass superficially, as their height, gait, body shape and mannerisms are still female, and a simple question would solve the problem.

However the Supreme Court did recognise that there are some few trans identifying females whose appearance might cause distress to women in such circumstances, and recommended that they stay out of single sex female spaces, which would probably suit them better anyway.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 26/08/2025 07:52

I say this on every thread where this tiresome argument is being trotted out, but what fuckwit at "LGBTQ+ propaganda HQ" said, in the wake of the Supreme Court judgment, "By jove, I've got it! We'll say that banning feminine-presenting men from women's spaces has resulted in people challenging masculine-presenting women's rights to be in those spaces!" without even one blue-haired-but-not-entirely-stupid assistant saying, "But Lulu-Trixibelle, those two groups don't look anything like each other. I'm not sure people will believe this."

If you think all those people are telling the truth then I have a bridge to sell you.

Also this. Jolyon Maugham’s not at all masculine looking wife with short hair, how very convenient for hubby and how spooky that she was musing about this happening online before it “happened”!

borntobequiet · 26/08/2025 07:53

Also, they are not “spider senses”. They are well adapted human female instincts that have evolved to facilitate successful reproduction and to keep women and their children safe.

The wife of a man who has raised around half a million pounds (so far) for unspecified actions to contest the Supreme Court judgement.

From his crowdfunder page:

'To use single sex services, trans people and “non-conforming” cis men and women will be required to “prove” their “biological sex”: goodness knows how. Trans women, and cis women who don’t abide by gender norms, will be “frisked” by men.'

My first thought was that this sounds like the plot of a porn movie from his imagination.

Bleugh.

Sometimes it's hard to tell if someone is male or female. Most of the time, it's not.

Last year my husband and I went to a well known tourist attraction and had to get a member of staff to open a different gate for us so we could get out with our pushchair.

The member of staff was young, and I would guess about 5ft10 and muscular, with a flat chest, a short cropped hairstyle, no facial hair, dressed in a pair of black trousers and a plain white shirt buttoned up to the neck, men's office shoes and a large belt with a walkie talkie attached to it. From a distance I was not sure whether they were a man or a woman, which in itself is an indication that they were probably a woman because everything tangible about their presentation screamed "man". When they spoke to us, I was sure of it.

We said thank you for opening the gate and moved away, then turned to each other and said, "That was a woman, right?" "Yep."

HousePlantEmergency · 26/08/2025 08:15

There been a few posters on here who have spoken about their trans relatives/friends who are lovely and kind and pose no threat. I don't doubt for one second that this is the case. No reason to think there aren't lovely kind, harmless trans people, of course there are.
Now let's assume that ALL trans people are wonderful, kind people (statistically that would be impossible, but let's just assume)

I have no doubt in my mind that a huge proportion of the Trans women (IB, KD etc) who have assaulted women and girls in toilets (or anywhere else for that matter) are not actually trans. They are fucked up men, sexual predators who have thrown on a dress purely to try and slip through a newly constructed social loop hole that allows them easier access to women's and girls in vulnerable environments.

So - we've got the harmless, kind actual trans women who wouldn't hurt anyone.
And then we've got the predatory blokes who put a dress on, access womens spaces and commit devastating crimes against them.

Which are which? How can you possibly tell??
Do we challenge one and not the other?

Or do we just say "Sorry. No to ALL MEN. It's too much of a risk. I'm sorry to all the lovely trans people, but you have predatory men to thank for this."

EggCustardTartt · 26/08/2025 08:17

SC ruling is going to end up being reversed at this rate.

RufustheFactualReindeer · 26/08/2025 08:17

Transman behind me in the toilet the other day….obviously female although it may take a second look for a few people

transman friend of my children, actually If I didnt know then I absolutely wouldn’t know BUT they use the gents because they ‘pass’

i think some people can always tell, some people really struggle to tell and a lot are pretty good at telling but might be wrong on the odd occasion with photos etc 🤷🏻

And just to add, as a single mum, I absolutely hated it when the time came for my son to start using the men's toilets by himself (8) precisely because of predatory men.
Unfortunately I had to just deal with it and prepare him for it in the best way I could.

I felt exactly the same.

So why are these little children expected to step up and do the right thing, while great lumps of men tell us they need special treatment because they 'feel unsafe'? 🙄

What are those links? I’d suggest not clicking on random links you can’t see is a good strategy for online security.

I can’t imagine why on earth you would think that.

illinivich · 26/08/2025 08:38

To be reversed, the law needs to change. Labour would have to pass a law clearly saying female only spaces are not permitted. Or change the definition of women to include men.

EggCustardTartt · 26/08/2025 08:40

TheKeatingFive · 26/08/2025 08:18

At what rate?

Well, clearly a lot of women don't object to sharing with men. And if any party are going to champion this it's Labour.

What a lack of critical thinking you display! @Howseitgoin There is no indication that females are being questioned in the ladies any more than there has been, despite the lies and made up stories from the anti women brigade. Oh, and special acknowledgement to you as you are the second anti-woman/pro-trans person to use the misogynistic term 'hysteria'. Yeah, must be our ovaries. Could you misogynists be original?

Secondly, in the vanishingly rare cases it happens, do you think it could be because women and girls are now HYPERVIGILENT to males suddenly entering our spaces? How about you blame the males for violating our boundaries and spaces, causing women to be on high alert and causing this situation in the first place, instead of blaming females for our natural response and alertness? But of course, gaslighting women for our natural response to threat is what misogynists do best.

I was going to answer to the same post, but I admit "lacking of critical thinking" is way more mature and elegant than what I was going to say 😉
Very well said, thank you!
