A lot of them are straight men with a fetish such as AGP.

Hmm they’re probably gay too. Autogynephilia is defined as a male's propensity to be sexually aroused by the thought of himself as a female. I don’t think they’re straight men.. either way let’s not get bogged down - any person with a penis, can either go in the men’s.

Oh Rylan 🤦🏻‍♂️ I'm a big fan of his, he's a great presenter and seems like a genuinely lovely bloke. Being really honest though, he's a gay man - women having access to single sex spaces is probably not particularly on his radar, and he can afford to keep it all 'live and let live' and lovey dovey

Not excusing him btw, I'm really disappointed that he doesn't seem to be considering women's POV

I completely agree with this ^

He never has come across as a "deep thinker", has he?

I think that is a bit unfair.
He did a programme with Rob Rinder, The Grand Tour, and totally got the art, far more than Rob.
He is incredibly clever, hence the school scholarship he earned.
I am not saying I agree with what he is saying here at all but to say he’s not a deep thinker seems a bit erroneous

Reddog1 · 20/08/2025 19:21

He’s got his fan base to think about I suppose. I think he’s self-serving.

Excellent, witty presenter though, incredible charisma.

It’s a shame.

I haven't been able to move past Chimamanda Ngozie Adichie using a surrogate to have twins. I only found out after I bought her long awaited new novel.
Its ridiculous how let down and devestated I am by her decision to exploit another woman this way. I really looked up to her and I am finding it impossible to reconcile her feminist writings & speeches, with her decision to exploit a surrogate.

Oh I didn’t know this 😔

The percentage of trans people in the UK is roughly the same as the percentage of people who are Buddhists in the UK. (0.5%)
I would think we see a lot more trans people on tv etc than we do Buddhists. About the same percentage of UK residents are blind. Again, do they feature much in the media?

Yeah... But they don't matter . It's not cool or controversial to be blind or Buddhist. We are only meant to care about the rainbow people because it looks good for a virtue signal . Sometimes I do think to myself , with these shouty virtue signallers, what would happen if they were in a room when an argument broke out between a devout Muslim man and a non binary lesbian woman ?

My god - they wouldn't know who to do 'shouty shouty, jumpy jumpy, pointy pointy ' to. They'd be chewing their knuckles sweating deciding where they stand for the most pats on the backs. Then they'd have to think what would look best on their 'feed' : either #savedamuslimslife #youreallragingislamaphobicsexceptme. Or #rainbowohmygodstoodupforhomophobiatoday #hero #allyoulotareabhorrent

lol, if the stories were there they’d be being published daily by the BBC and Guardian, unfortunately the ‘community’ is a group of navel gazing, feckless, misfits who are far too interested in themselves to do anything newsworthy like raise funds for a worthy cause or discover a cure for cancer.

Coatsoff42 · 20/08/2025 19:56

I think there should be more storylines on tv about gender non-conforming people not living life according to stereotypes. But not thinking they have changed sex.
It would help young people feeling left out of a very gender rigid society to see people living a diverse life and expanding ideas of masculinity and femininity without having to actually go trans and medicalise themselves and make us all enter a fairytale world of make believe.

I think it's perfectly possible to be able to pass exams without having the necessary critical skills to think beyond your own narrow view of the world - especially when you're viewing it through a male lens.

AngelofIslington · 20/08/2025 20:54

@SirChenjins his take on The Grand Tour was the complete opposite of someone who is not a deep thinker.
As I mentioned I am not agreeing with what he said, but I find it totally wrong for someone to criticise someone for being something they are not just because it suits the narrative of the thread

Spot on ! I think people used to though didn't they ? 😵‍💫 We had short haired footballers that were girls at school and grungey girls and pink haired choker wearing boys.

Ok, let's not lie, there were whispers: usually along the lines of "I think she's a lesbian" or "I bet he's gay " ... But ya know - such is life. You'll always get that. I think the boys and girls of those days knew how to shrug it off and were probably all the stronger for it.

But, nobody ever thought butch , man u kit wearing, football mad Kayleigh was a boy.

moggly · 20/08/2025 21:11

"I think there is space to show real stories, real trans people."

He should watch Marycate Delvey's series Listen To Trans People. Those real stories are quite something.

DialSquare · 20/08/2025 21:14

Someone should point him in the direction of Marycate Delvey’s X account. Plenty of Trans representation there.

Waitingfordoggo · 20/08/2025 21:15

Awww, shame. Despite his ridiculousness I’ve always quite liked Rylan. This is very disappointing.

There's no scholarships at the school he went to

Waitingfordoggo · 20/08/2025 21:29

And now you hear about so many safe spaces disappearing for so many queer people, and the importance of that, of somewhere where you can relax and be amongst the people who understand you.
“The disappearances of those is dangerous.”

In isolation, that could be a gender critical quote, commenting on transbians pestering women in lesbian bars and dating apps, and transmen going to gay saunas and clubs with their mastectomy scars and vulvas or phalloplasties and then being all sad when the gay men don’t want to shag them.

But sadly that’s obviously not what was meant! Ironic really how two arguments from opposing sides can sound exactly the same!

Alltheyellowbirds · 20/08/2025 21:32

Chocolatecoveredshitpig · 20/08/2025 16:26

He actually went to an excellent state school and has something like 12 GCSEs, (according to his book). I think he plays up to the thicko image, while being pretty sharp underneath.

GCSEs?

Is that the definition of a deep thinker now?

PermanentTemporary · 20/08/2025 21:33

I really like Rylan’s presenting and disagreeing with him on something doesn’t change my view of him. A bit tired of metaphorically putting anyone who makes any statement that FWR doesn’t like in the stocks. The whole point of campaigning on structural things like the legal definition of women/ female categories should be to allow room for different views within the law, including views that the law itself may need changing.

That’s like saying we should accept misogyny. It’s not that FWR don’t like it. It’s that it’s misogyny. Its fundamental. It’s unacceptable. It’s thinking it’s ok to remove women’s rights in favour of men’s rights. And we don’t want that from anyone, do we? It’s disappointing when a person we thought got it, either doesn’t get it (doubtful), or is too afraid to tell the truth because of the hideous TRAs etc.

This sums up everything I think too.

sanityisamyth · 20/08/2025 23:35

He’s as thick as two short planks. I love radio 2 but I put my own music on when he’s doing his programme.

PInkyStarfish · 20/08/2025 23:38

He’s not well, all that preening in the mirror and the glare from his teeth reflected back into his eyes have burnt substantial holes in his brain.
