He actually went to an excellent state school and has something like 12 GCSEs, (according to his book). I think he plays up to the thicko image, while being pretty sharp underneath.

Not that sharp, clearly!

musicalfrog · 20/08/2025 16:44

He's close with Rob Rinder though, who gets it.

RobinEllacotStrike · 20/08/2025 16:47

I'm only surprised it took him so long

Lottapianos · 20/08/2025 16:47

Big fan of Rob too - very heartened to hear this

Never liked him, always thought there was something 'off' about him.

His name, for one thing.
Is it double-barrelled?
No - now he doesn't seem to have even ONE surname!

RobinEllacotStrike · 20/08/2025 16:52

RedToothBrush · 20/08/2025 16:36

I'm disappointed but unsurprised given his social circle. He wouldn't be able to continue to do Eurovision if he didn't come out fawning eventually. I'm surprised it's taken this long tbh. (It's interesting he's held out this long)

The thing I am waiting for him to really disappoint me on is buying a baby (I believe he broke up with his ex over the subject). But he hasn't yet, so...

I haven't been able to move past Chimamanda Ngozie Adichie using a surrogate to have twins. I only found out after I bought her long awaited new novel.
Its ridiculous how let down and devestated I am by her decision to exploit another woman this way. I really looked up to her and I am finding it impossible to reconcile her feminist writings & speeches, with her decision to exploit a surrogate.

Lottapianos · 20/08/2025 16:54

He took on his husband's surname, so became Clark-Neal, but the marriage ended and I guess he feels that just Rylan is easier now

LadyBracknellsHandbagg · 20/08/2025 17:01

of somewhere where you can relax and be amongst the people who understand you.
“The disappearances of those is dangerous.”

On the whole, women don’t understand TIM and don’t want to, and we don’t want to share our spaces with them, campaign for third spaces if it’s so bloody important Russell, how about a gay men and TIM combined space? You try putting up with these men for whom you have so much sympathy.

TV and radio presenter Rylan Clark has called for there to be more stories about transgender people amid a “mass wave of hate”.

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/rylan-clark-russell-tovey-lgbt-pride-trans-b2810522.html

That may not work out the way he plans it to work.

M&S will be able to explain🙃

And I am guessing he would not be including "gay" TM in his dating pool or supporting them to hang out in gay male spaces?

I was incredibly shocked by that admission by Chimamanda. It was like some kind of huge dissonance alarm went off.

RobinEllacotStrike · 20/08/2025 17:16

massive!

Jaws2025 · 20/08/2025 17:22

The percentage of trans people in the UK is roughly the same as the percentage of people who are Buddhists in the UK. (0.5%)
I would think we see a lot more trans people on tv etc than we do Buddhists. About the same percentage of UK residents are blind. Again, do they feature much in the media?

For me, the jury is still very much out on Rob Rinder. He made a comment on the M&S story (on TV) that in his opinion the teenage girl was probably perfectly ok with the approach from the TIM and it was only the mother who objected and blew the situation up disproportionately. I know he advocates for equality for women, but I have no idea where he stands when women’s rights conflict with the rainbows. Sad times.

Well, TIM Are gay men.

Fewer appear to be gay men than claim to be transbian women.

It’s not gay men taking lesbian dating apps to court for excluding them.

I didn't know she used a surrogate - that's really not a good look. At all.

It’s not even 0.5%. The last census collecting the data has been proven to be incorrectly worded / misleading.

And yes other groups are woefully ignored.

Not to mention the utter scandal of VAWG being ignored. Imagine if it was men, it’d be much more important.

Well ok, I’m being factual again.. silly me!

Transbian. Fck off if you’ve got a dick. In female spaces.

(none of my post aimed at you pp)

An extract from that Independent article:

"At the Scottish TV event, the BBC Radio 2 presenter spoke to actor Russell Tovey and the two reflected on their respective experiences growing up gay in Essex.

Speaking about a nightclub he would go to as a young man, Tovey said: “It was a really important safe space, which I didn’t realise at the time how important that was.

“And now you hear about so many safe spaces disappearing for so many queer people, and the importance of that, of somewhere where you can relax and be amongst the people who understand you.
“The disappearances of those is dangerous.” "

So they get the concept of 'safe spaces', and how important they are. But apparently they are only important for "queer people". They just don't get that women need safe spaces too, and those safe spaces are male-free.

Unbe-fucking-leivable.

Edited

Hang on, what safe spaces are disappearing for which queer people, & why are they disappearing? Sounds like he's talking about social spaces like nightclubs & bars, rather than single-sex spaces like toilets & changing rooms.

Iloveyoubut · 20/08/2025 17:35

I really like Rylan. I remember him happily challenging a doctor on tv when she was on This Morning saying It was coming into practice to ask males over 12 if they might be pregnant. He said that was ridiculous and if anyone asked him that he wouldn’t trust their sanity to treat him. Someone up thread implied he’s ’not that bright’ I think he’s incredibly bright actually. Perhaps he’s saying that trans people aren’t the insanity we see on TikTok. I genuinely really like Ryan, I think he’s quite important on mainstream media

SirChenjins · 20/08/2025 17:35

It's just another case of men centering men, with absolute zero consideration for women whose boundaries have been dismantled by those in power.

SquishedMallow · 20/08/2025 16:43

I agree. Even their female friends they call "bitches" and "hags" and feel it's ok to say vaginas are disgusting and make them vom.

Yeh yeh not all ... Blah blah... We know.

This is exactly why I find drag so offensive.

The entire premise is based on the fact that we're all total slags and that our vaginas stink. It's hugely misogynistic but we're supposed to shriek with laughter at how funny these men are.

The fact that drag is so popular with many gay men is revealing.

My closest friend was a gay man but we barely speak now because we disagree fundamentally over trans people. Ironically, he wouldn't ever consider dating a trans man - because vaginas and boobs, eeeew! - but he's very happy to scold me on how women's language doesn't matter and how gay men are in JUST as much danger as women walking down a dark street. He wants me to be an ally for him - which I have been, willingly and enthusiastically - but he's not willing to be an ally for women. IN fact, he wants me to understand just how vulnerable trans women are and how difficult THEIR lives are/have been.

I think he is totally right.

Well, I guess operation ‘let them speak’ has worked very well in our favour so far so yes, maybe he’s right and is a huge terf sticking up for his little nan . 🙌

I honestly don't think gay men like women much.

I think there are some fabulous gay men who like and support women’s rights, John Boyne for one.
However as a pp said, they don’t really have a “use” for women so many don’t think about us very much.
