Sturgeon accuses JK of toxic trans debate

The world has probably had enough of sturgeon to last a lifetime but today’s ‘revelation’ from her shite book is just infuriating.

A long catalogue of poor me, I’m pure of spirit, any criticism is toxic, everyone else is malevolent.

Despite calling people who don’t agree with her idiotic bill racists, homophobes and misogynists, here she says JK’s teeshirt didn’t elevate the debate or illuminate the issues.

And then goes on to say that this issue wasn’t really that important to mainstream voters but we are all guilty of hysteria.

And she wishes she had the courage to call a rapist female.

For someone allegedly politically astute this book is a very stupid strategy. Slow hand clap.

Who is this us? You have no idea what my thoughts are. You're creating an argument where there isn't one to be had. I dont think it's particularly eloquent or intelligent to insult someone via a tshirt is all. JKR has done amazing things to my local environment and I appreciate her written work hugely. I also fully appreciate many of her views. Please don't say that just because I dont like one thing she has done that I'm putting myself against anyone. However I agree that cutely hilarious would be an amazing tshirt and we should totally get them made!

She wasn't insulting anyone.

She said that Sturgeon was a destroyer of women's rights.

Can you explain to me why telling the truth and making a political statement about it is 'insulting' someone.

Why does it have to be 'particularly eloquent'. Do you even know what eloquent means?

eloquent /ĕl′ə-kwənt/
adjective
Capable of or characterized by eloquence.
"an eloquent speaker; an eloquent sermon."
Having the power of expressing strong emotions or forcible arguments in an elevated, impassioned, and effective manner.
"an eloquent orator or preacher"
Adapted to express strong emotion or to state facts arguments with fluency and power.
"an eloquent address or statement; an eloquent appeal to a jury."

Being eloquent is simply making a clear, powerful and effective point in a way that communicates the message in a way that is very easily understood.

Again, with that intellectual snobbery.

Being able to put a message onto a tshirt in a really concise way, with such impact IS eloquent. You just don't approve of it.

Waitwhat23 · 12/08/2025 17:36

Also, the whole 'debate this in a rational manner' thing is such a crock of shite. Women tried to speak about it and were told to shut up, sometimes with a thin veneer of politeness and many times accompanied by violent threats.

And what's the 'rational' outcome? Men in a female single sex space makes it a mixed sex space. Suggestions of third spaces and the like were dismissed out of hand. Only complete capitulation was acceptable.

And now the fact that women were right all along has been clarified, there's epic amounts of rowing back by beardy necked, lanyard wankers saying stuff like 'ooh, if we were all just a bit nicer and also, what have the feminists been doing? Why haven't they been pushing for third spaces?'.

It's enraging. And then we're told on here to be nicer. Just be sweeter, classier, beee kiiiinnnnd.

You been saying that to the knife wielding, violent placard holding, pissing trophy photo TRA's?

Nah, didn't think so.

RedToothBrush · 12/08/2025 17:43

Heres another definition:

eloquent
adjective
^uk/ˈel.ə.kwənt/ us/ˈel.ə.kwənt/^
Add to word list

giving a clear, strong message:
She made an eloquent appeal for action.
The pictures were an eloquent reminder of the power of the volcano.

And another

eloquent
adjective
el·o·quent ˈe-lə-kwənt
1: marked by forceful and fluent expressionan eloquent preacher
2: vividly or movingly expressive or revealing an eloquent monument

Perhaps you'd like a fourth

adjective

  1. having or exercising the power of fluent, forceful, and appropriate speech.
  2. an eloquent orator.
  3. characterized by forceful and appropriate expression.
  4. an eloquent speech.
  5. movingly expressive.
  6. looks eloquent of disgust.

Sod it, lets go for five.

(eləkwənt)

1. adjective
Speech or writing that is eloquent is well expressed and effective in persuading people.
I heard him make a very eloquent speech at that dinner.
2. adjective
A person who is eloquent is good at speaking and able to persuade people.

I'd say the tshirt was fairly eloquent.

The trouble is the word eloquent has this idea of superiority and status attached to it, and this was a tshirt so isn't 'high brow' enough.

But it certainly meets the dictionary definition of eloquent. Indeed five dictionary definitions in case you think one might be inaccurate.

On a scrappy bit of cardboard they found on in a dustbin on the way to the protest.

it's got wafts of fragrant whimsy and cockettish mimsy

Well this is why people become so polarised. Some quite unpleasant responses to me when I have not defended sturgeon or insulted JKR in any way. It's okay to agree with people's opinions but not necessarily the way they go about sharing them. That was my only point. I have greater respect when people show respect and for me she fell short on that occasion. Im sure she wont care! (I actually do love JKR for what its worth)

lechiffre55 · 12/08/2025 17:46

@RedToothBrush
First off thanks for collecting all those reactions together. Still making my way through them.

"From as far back as I can recall, I didn't just have an ambition to go to university but, rather, a certainty that I would do so. No one else in the history of my family had ever studied for a degree, so it is hard to know where that came from. In fact, back then I was a walking contradiction."
You still are.

"Alongside shyness, a crippling lack of confidence and a dreadful fear of failure, was a burning ambition, a drive to succeed, a craving to be 'seen.' I had - at risk of sounding daft - a very strong sense of 'destiny;' a feeling that whatever I did in life would not be 'ordinary', that it would attract attention.
She's channeling Tony Blair! Will she have to pay royalites on that?
"A day like today is not a day for soundbites, we can leave those at home, but I feel the hand of history upon our shoulder with respect to this, I really do"

littlbrowndog · 12/08/2025 17:46

Naw sturgeon can fuck right off. She was trying to destroy the rights of women and girls in my country

feminist to her fingertips. 🤦‍♀️

according to her we were racist and homophobic women

so glad she is gone.

You accused JKRowling of insulting Sturgeon. She didn't.
You said she wasn't eloquent. She was.

I have not been unpleasant. I have said you are factually inaccurate. And explained why.

Then you say I'm being polarising!!!

OK I'll asume good faith on your part.
If you've followed this fight here, and seen what women have put up with, you might understand why a woman wearing a micky taking t shirt isn't much to endure by comparison.

How much are Warner Bros. paying for Sturgeons book rights ?

Looney Tunes was canned years ago.

No one sensible has ever denied that if it were not for the suffragettes, women would still be waiting for the vote.

I disagree, it was intelligent, pithy and clearly had an impact. Otherwise NS wouldn't be bellyaching about it in her book.

Part of Sturgeon's self-mythology is that she's a staunch feminist. By putting "destroyer of women's rights" on the T-shirt, one of the most famous women in the country visibly punctured that image. It brought home to many in Scotland and elsewhere that this was all about Women's Rights, not trans rights as Sturgeon liked to frame it.

Sturgeon was selling out women and girls for her own personal pet project. JKR very publicly called her out on it in one photo of wearing a T-shirt.

I'd call that pretty good campaigning, personally.

Yes exactly

she did try to destroy women’s rights.

that T-shirt was spot on

You don't think that calling women on a feminist forum 'cutely hilarious' for defending their rights is a little patronising? A little... disrespectful?

Waitwhat23 · 12/08/2025 18:09

Also, compare and contrast JKR wearing a tshirt which said 'Nicola Sturgeon - destroyer of women's rights' against 3 of Nicola's own MSP's standing grinning under a placard which stated 'decapitate terfs' alongside a picture of a guillotine.

Entirely true statement against an actual violent threat.

Even when she was 'condemning' her own MSP's actions, it was very much in an 'I'm sorry but....' type of way.

Annotating as I read to review. Might auction my scribbled-on copy, proceeds to go to ForWomenScot. NB: nobody who’s offended by swearing should bid.

@Gofaster2023
What did you think of Elaine Miller's merkin protest in Holyrood?

zerofeeling · 12/08/2025 18:21

Sturgeon is so disappointing in every way, even more than most politicians. She is toxic, her legacy will be a toxic mess in Scotland that others have to put right. Meanwhile JK Rowling never fails to fill me with admiration of her commitment, humour and generosity.

AnSolas · 12/08/2025 18:26

Gofaster2023 · 12/08/2025 16:46

I mean. It was hardly classy of JKR to wear a tahirt slagging her off, was it? Hardly the height of reasoned debate. I'm defending neither of them, but a lot of you hate Sturgeon, take cheap shots and then somehow think you've the upper hand and are cutely hilarious.

Hint:
Womens rights to be forced to provide companionship to a male doing time for two rapes is not a REFORM

Expanding on the impact of Rowling’s actions, Sturgeon adds: “As the head of the government proposing this reform, I was fair game for robust and uncomfortable challenge, but it went beyond that.

She admits this changed early the following year as a result of the Isla Bryson scandal — the biologically male double rapist initially placed in a female jail — and suggests she now wishes she had the “courage” to admit she considers the sex offender a female.

Gofaster2023 · 12/08/2025 18:26

Again! I am not arguing against anything! Like if your child punched a bully, I'd still say it's not the best way to deal with it, even if I deep down thought they had it coming. Can you literally not see that I am simply saying I didnt agree with her actions? Im not talking about anyone else's actions, im not playing tit for tat. I just dont think it was a great choice.

childofthe607080s · 12/08/2025 18:30

And you are entitled to your opinion but given what women have faced in this “debate” I think it lifts the spirits of the troops as it were

PestoHoliday · 12/08/2025 18:41

The woman is delusional and keeps calling womens rights campaigners as anti-trans rights activists ffs

Honestly I’ve watched an interview with Bonnie Blue today and Bonnie actually used less attempts at misogynistic, non feminist, goady, rage bait comments to excuse her complete male centric activities than Nicola used. I think Nicola is angling to be the next Katie Hopkins.
