Sturgeon accuses JK of toxic trans debate

The world has probably had enough of sturgeon to last a lifetime but today’s ‘revelation’ from her shite book is just infuriating.

A long catalogue of poor me, I’m pure of spirit, any criticism is toxic, everyone else is malevolent.

Despite calling people who don’t agree with her idiotic bill racists, homophobes and misogynists, here she says JK’s teeshirt didn’t elevate the debate or illuminate the issues.

And then goes on to say that this issue wasn’t really that important to mainstream voters but we are all guilty of hysteria.

And she wishes she had the courage to call a rapist female.

For someone allegedly politically astute this book is a very stupid strategy. Slow hand clap.

I wonder if sturgeon is starting regret writing this book.

😂

ArabellaScott · 16/08/2025 07:47

Jesus wept.

Can she really not hear herself?

'Incredibly, Sturgeon uses Frankly to double down. She even charges self-ID’s critics with the “weaponisation” of Bryson, and claims that Bryson was “the break that opponents of the law had been waiting for”. This is indescribably crass. Bryson, in his tacky blonde wig and crotch-revealing leggings, was the nightmare that anyone with an interest in women’s safety had been warning Sturgeon about. There is no conciliatory gesture towards the two women Bryson raped.'

anyolddinosaur · 16/08/2025 08:18

Sturgeon has such a large ego she will regret nothing, except that it doesnt sell.

'The truth is that Sturgeon was softly homophobic when she thought that was the best electoral calculation, was neutral when it was hard to work out the electoral calculation, was mildly interested when it became fashionable, was vocally interested when it was beneficial for her career, was wildly, madly up for it when her career was at risk, and then was actually sort of against it again once it harmed her reputation.'

Worth a read. Especially for those who like to bang on about Section 28.

lcakethereforeIam · 16/08/2025 10:02

Thanks for posting that. I'd read it a couple of days ago but lost the link and couldn't find it again. This bit

Sturgeon is basically an AI that does rapid summaries of the consensus on liberal Twitter

I remember Boris Johnson being described as someone who looks which way the crowd is going then runs to the front and shouts 'follow me!'. I'm getting that vibe from Sturgeon. Except she totally failed to notice all the people who weren't in the crowd; who'd stayed home, who were watching in horror or, bravely, standing in the way saying 'no'.

lcakethereforeIam · 16/08/2025 11:23

And I completely failed to mention, from the Robin McAlpine piece, NS's sudden enthusiasm for self-I'd was to keep the Greens on-side, which isn't new. I didn't know about this though

Then something else happened; the fall-out of the Salmond trial and the parliamentary inquiry. This nearly finished her career and some of the most dangerous revelations were down to her lack of parliamentary majority when the Greens voted for disclosure.

Women and children went under the bus so Sturgeon could keep the Greens sweet to save her own neck.

It would be cruel to ask...

The whole article is worth a read.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 16/08/2025 11:30

My main problem with Sturgeon is that she gave me the grue from very early on, pretty-much when I first noticed her at all (that is, before she became First Minister) and I knew I was biased against her for that reason; so I contorted myself not to be unfair to her because just having a gut-feeling someone's not on the level isn't a good reason to condemn them, right?

I really ought to learn to go with my gut a bit more.

SerendipityJane · 16/08/2025 11:34

It's quite amusing when a secret ballot shoves two fingers up to the media narrative.

Can anyone remember what her main arguments for independence were/are?

Were her arguments mainly pragmatic or was it just about being separate from England at any cost?

ArabellaScott · 16/08/2025 11:52

I don't recall her making any, tbh.

'Westminster bad'.

But I think what’s also important is that along the way on this flip-flopping journey, she completely swallowed the idea that “trans” is something to do with homosexuality and belongs in the same bracket and that opposing “homophobia” must also mean embracing ridiculous, unworkable extreme gender ideologist demands like full instant self ID and males in female sports. Without even having the critical thinking ability to interrogate what it all meant or how it would work - hence being so publically stumped by Isla Bryson. And she’s still confusing them to this day with her “sexuality is not binary” statement.

Wastemonster bad/Scotland can be like Scandi (but low tax version)/ Liebour bad/Scotland Oil blah blah blah

WhatterySquash · 16/08/2025 12:27

Yes oil was a big part of it - one of the main reasons I voted no (along with my instinctive distrust of nationalism for its own sake). Pursuing oil as your financial saviour into a long-term future is unbelievably stupid when it’s both finite and not green. It was especially dunderheaded when Scotland has everything it needs to be a world leader in tidal and wave power development and that was not done well.

Yes Norway got rich on oil and is sitting pretty financially and can now afford to be green. That ship has sailed. Scotland should have got ahead of the game in renewables development but despite wanging on about them it’s been a bit of an underfunded, disorganised mess.

Merrymouse · 16/08/2025 12:38

I think the only honest way to campaign for independence is to persuade people that it's a good idea even if things go wrong. But I suppose that is a more difficult campaigning strategy.

Weren't there also some rather iffy claims about currency?

The Telegraph have published another article, it details some of the abuse NS says she has been receiving

Nicola Sturgeon: Gender opponents said they wanted me ‘raped in toilet’ https://share.google/maYtZSePhYe6EVX7f archive link

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/08/14/nicola-sturgeon-gender-opponents-rape-toilet/

Utterly vile things mocking her miscarriage and hoping she gets raped. I've not seen them myself but whoever would send stuff like that ain't no feminist. I've no qualms in totally condemning them.

Although, I'm only human and this did cause me to eyeroll

“I’ve been vilified and received some awful abuse, nothing like the abuse trans people are getting right now.”Hmm

There's also more on the shitshow at the Library and regarding Kate Forbes. ScotGov's Culture Secretary has been asked to promise that freedom of speech is paramount where public funds are involved.

These rape threats and other such abuse against NS are horrific, and should be condemned by everybody, without exception and without hesitation.
And I do so, they are disgusting and no woman should be subjected to them.

But I find it really difficult to believe that kind of abuse came from GC feminists.
What other 'gender opponents' are there? Christian groups? making rape threats? not impossible, but it seems unlikely.

So who are these 'gender opponents' she blames for this abuse? I can't think of any group that would use rape threats against a woman, or mocking her miscarriage, as a critique of pro-trans opinions.

They sound so much more like they've come from the 'decapitate terfs' tendency. A false flag operation? The police should be able to track down the perpetrators, though from JKR's experience, nothing much will happen as a result.
At least we'd know who the perpetrators are, and what side they are batting for.

tbh I assume all the threats of rape & murder and taunts over her miscarriage came from bog standard misogynist men 🤷🏻‍♀️

Ditto. It screams of that guardian article a few weeks back from the butch lesbian who was shouted out of the women’s toilets by a man who somehow then concluded from this that other men (trans identified men) should be free to use women’s toilets.

Men hurled misogynistic abuse at NS and GC women are responsive for that.

I was the opposite with Sturgeon. I saw her as being from the same mould as me. Very similar geographical and social background, clever wee girl from a state school, articulate but not a skilled orator. All that made her seem relatable. I so wanted her to be like me or like one of my close female relations, who are not at all sleekit or backstabbers (we do have a braggart gene running through the family, but it's tempered by none of us having achieved anything of national importance). The Salmond enquiry sowed the seeds of doubt, but it took the Isla Bryson fiasco to give me a proper reality check.

There were basically 3 options.

  1. Use the Pound Sterling. However with no input into BoE monetary policy this would not have been "independence". It also relied on a tacit acceptance that the rUK would be on the hook in the event Scotland fucked it all up.

  2. Use the Euro as you were still in the EU. This again would leave some of the monetary decisions out of the governments hands. Now that's not a problem for France or Germany, but ask Greece ....

  3. Introduce a new currency backed by the sovereign state.

None of which was laid out before the public. And really needs to be signed sealed and delivered before any rerun of an IndyRef if there is any hope of a "Yes" vote.

That said, I think the time has come and gone. The world is moving away from smaller countries who are being squeezed everywhere. Being in a club is very much the fashion right now.

anyolddinosaur · 16/08/2025 15:11

At one time she seemed like a better opposition to the tories than anyone in England and Wales. Then it was all downhill.

I think threats of rape and murder come from misogynist men, but I think she might also be referring to some women saying e.g. "I hope you are imprisoned with Isla Bryson".

ArabellaScott · 16/08/2025 20:13

Wizard of Oz is a good descriptor.

'Her legacy is a hollowing out of civic society and a paralysis at the heart of government that has endured. Political discourse is angrier. Debate is polarised. Courage is in short supply. Optimism is rationed.'

Yep.
