NHS Fife tries to silence nurse - Sandie Peggie vs NHS Fife Health Board and Dr Beth Upton - thread #44

Sandie Peggie, a nurse at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy (VH), has brought claims in the employment tribunal against her employer; Fife Health Board (the Board) and another employee, Dr B Upton. Ms Peggie’s claims are of sexual harassment, harassment related to a protected belief, indirect discrimination and victimisation. Dr Upton claims to be a transwoman, that is observed as male at birth but asserting a female gender identity.

The Employment Tribunal hearing started on Monday 3 February 2025 and was expected to last 2 weeks. However, after 2 weeks it was not complete and it adjourned part-heard. It resumed on 16 July and the last day of evidence had been intended to be 28 July with 2 days of submissions from counsel meaning that the hearing was to have ended on 30 July. However, it became apparent as the hearing progressed that this schedule wouldn't be followed.

The hearing commenced with Sandie Peggie giving evidence. Dr Beth Upton gave evidence from Thursday 6 February to Wednesday 12 February.
Access to view the hearing remotely was obtainable by sending an email request to [email protected] by 5pm on Wednesday 9 July. Detailed instructions were provided here:

I predicted we'd be on thread 45 come Monday morning and I was hoping to win a prize. So come on ladies. Only 908 posts to go.
I have enough recipes to last me a while but I'd like to know if anyone keeps carnivorous plants.
I have a Venus flytrap that I've managed to keep alive for almost a year now but she's always been a bit floppy, like she's permanently having a lie down.
Any tips would be most welcome.

Venus fly trap a sensitive soul. The slightest dryness and they’re near to death. I’ve lost a few. My current Venus is thriving however ever since she sits in a saucer of water that is continuously kept topped up. I never water her on top of the soil, she just loves sitting in her saucer of water.

I know we are all waiting for NC’s cross examination on Tuesday, but I think today is going to be very, very interesting too.

GreenFriedTomato · 27/07/2025 21:57

It did flower but I cut them down straight away.

I like the look of butterworts @NoBinturongsHereMate I may add to the family

Mine flowered - and then it died.

Sad times indeed :(
dp used to have carnivorous plants, mainly pitcher plants not fly traps, he always snapped off the flowers of the sad little venus fly traps in our local Homebase (also non-existent anymore) saying they'd die if they flower.

I believe we have to wait til Tuesday for the joy of Currer being cross examined.

Oh no! I am looking forward to that one.

GetDressedYouMerryGentlemen · 27/07/2025 21:59

I despair I was last properly up to date on Wednesday I've managed to catch on the TT summaries and had the odd brief dive into these marvellous threads since but I'm on holiday so no idea when I'm going to be able to properly catch up. I was going to write it off but a quick skim of the latter half of this thread tells me you've been talking books so I will have find the time from somewhere to see what you had to say.

Don't know if you've seen Sandie's daughters X post but yes, tomorrow may well be interesting. I'm curious what this Lindsey will have today about Sandie.

I wasn't too surprised to find out that Bezmills is a man. Every time I saw his name, I had images of Happy Monday's Bez off his trolley, bouncing around with marracas.

I'm hopelessly (like days and days) behind what has Sandie's daughter tweeted?

Igneococcus · 27/07/2025 22:05

A cafe close to me (well, easy cycling distance) makes treacle scones. I wish they'd be found in more cafes.

GreenFriedTomato · 27/07/2025 22:06

Just digging this one out again 😁

I returned from holiday to find her almost dead and after interrogating my housemate for.a.while he confessed to giving her tap water!

I'd told him that was forbidden as it could kill her..

His rationale. Well it hadn't rained and it was going to die. Well it will definitely die if you water her like that!

I've managed to revive her so it wasn't a complete catastrophy. She just doesn't stand up at all though. Never has done. I may get another to compare.

This is mind-boggling. It doesn't sound as though the NHS solicitors were consulted at all.
Like you, I used to have our legal folks on speed dial. A quick phone call kept us right!

Lawyers in Scotland let everyone down as did the government.

I mean consulting them wouldn’t have been any help at all. I’m not convinced even now that it would.

The canteen in my previous job made them every so often, and if you got there early enough they'd still be warm. Alas, I no longer have a supply. If anyone can share a good recipe for these it would be appreciated!

ThreeWordHarpy · 27/07/2025 22:16

Just catching up:

sewing, knitting, crochet - yes
Jams - no
carnivorous plants - yes. Venus fly traps watered with the water that comes out of our dehumidifier or out of the rain butt. It self propagated and I managed to transplant them using the specialist soil, so now have three and a very cute baby one. Have been very useful as the kitchen has been full of flies this summer, at one point all the traps were closed and digesting, I swore I could hear them burp. (eventually found the source of the flies was something unidentifiable that had died some weeks previously behind the bins outside). Butterwort and sundew also and they are very good for the tiny flies you sometimes get round other potted plants.

On a slightly on topic note regarding chromosomes, I am now the proud owner of one of these. (If the pic passes the filter). Will be interesting to see if anyone realises what it is and comments.

Asking Sandie what would her gay daughter make of it all.

The usual force teaming of LGB with the T.

As if lesbians have to be supportive of their trans 'sisters'

This Lindsay sounds all TWAW so let's see what she has to say..
