NHS Fife tries to silence nurse - Sandie Peggie vs NHS Fife Health Board and Dr Beth Upton - thread #44

nauticant · 25/07/2025 21:31

Sandie Peggie, a nurse at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy (VH), has brought claims in the employment tribunal against her employer; Fife Health Board (the Board) and another employee, Dr B Upton. Ms Peggie’s claims are of sexual harassment, harassment related to a protected belief, indirect discrimination and victimisation. Dr Upton claims to be a transwoman, that is observed as male at birth but asserting a female gender identity.

The Employment Tribunal hearing started on Monday 3 February 2025 and was expected to last 2 weeks. However, after 2 weeks it was not complete and it adjourned part-heard. It resumed on 16 July and the last day of evidence had been intended to be 28 July with 2 days of submissions from counsel meaning that the hearing was to have ended on 30 July. However, it became apparent as the hearing progressed that this schedule wouldn't be followed.

The hearing commenced with Sandie Peggie giving evidence. Dr Beth Upton gave evidence from Thursday 6 February to Wednesday 12 February.
Access to view the hearing remotely was obtainable by sending an email request to [email protected] by 5pm on Wednesday 9 July. Detailed instructions were provided here:

I’m struggling to keep up with these threads (watched some of the tribunal live back in February but have been away on summer holidays - bad timing!)

Anyway I’ve subscribed today to Michael Foran’s substack to listen to updates whilst unpacking and doing laundry - can highly recommend them, and I have 5 share token things for the free 30 days. DM your email address if you’d like one.

Gymnopedie · 27/07/2025 20:38

Totally get the pp (Gymnopedie?) who missed their stop and even forgot they were on a train.

Well remembered, it was me. Looking back on it I'm quite concerned, I was so engrossed in my phone that I had absolutely zero awareness of my surroundings. Missing the stop wasn't the worst that could have happened, my bag could have been taken and I'm sure I wouldn't have noticed.

I've told myself very firmly that this week I wait until I get home to catch up.

I thought Stonewall were now in financial difficulty now that they no longer have US funding. Unbelievable that organisation like that has to rely upon a foreign government for financial support. It makes you wonder what the motivation was behind it.

Their latest accounts suggest that they are not in a great position. They had a deficit of £860k (what would be called a loss if they were a business) on turnover of £6.9M. They had a deficit the previous year as well. Their total funds are down to £998k. Only £385k of that was unrestricted funds, i.e. money available for them to spend how they want. The remainder was in restricted funds that can only be used for the purpose for which they were given. They haven't yet filed their accounts to March 2025, but they need to reverse the trend.

Oh scones. The queens chef’s recipe is the best I’ve found. Soaking the sultanas is a game changer.

All respect to you and the queen, but throwing the sultanas in the bin would probably work better than soaking them.

I prefer my scones without little blobs of slime in them. Nothing sadder than arriving at a nice cafe and discovering that they only have slime-accessorised scones

I would have put good money on a bet that the Sunday Sport would never use the word ‘imbroglio’!

Strange sad times.

I'm all out of Tribunal Tweets shares but @Firenzo and @Toasterkettleairfryer have Michael Foran!

I predicted we'd be on thread 45 come Monday morning and I was hoping to win a prize. So come on ladies. Only 908 posts to go.
I have enough recipes to last me a while but I'd like to know if anyone keeps carnivorous plants.
I have a Venus flytrap that I've managed to keep alive for almost a year now but she's always been a bit floppy, like she's permanently having a lie down.
Any tips would be most welcome.

Butterworts. Much less fussy than your average vegetable carnivore, and they have very cheerful flowers.

Toasterkettleairfryer · 27/07/2025 21:19

I cant open PM's, dont know what thats about

I have lots of email notifications so I made a throwaway email account

First 5 messages were from 19.55-20.25

I'll try my best!

Did you let it flower? That is supposedly not good for them.

PetethePlumbersToolkit · 27/07/2025 21:22

This is mind-boggling. It doesn't sound as though the NHS solicitors were consulted at all.
Like you, I used to have our legal folks on speed dial. A quick phone call kept us right!

Honestly, follow them on Twitter. It’s far funnier and more educated than you expect, but they can get away with a lot of stuff because they are The Sport.

I'd like to think the PP who posted the courgette pickle recipe a couple of days ago. Scoffing them out of the jar delicious!

Ooh yes I made courgette pickle as well on Friday. It is delicious! so I also thank that poster

When Silence Becomes a Strategy – The Collapse of Stonewall’s “No Debate” Approach – Decentered Media

In the past decade, Stonewall has undergone a transformation that was meant to consolidate its authority on LGBTQ+ advocacy. Instead, it has ended up alienating

I am expecting good stuff from Queen NC tomorrow morning after JR faffing about on Friday afternoon wasting time to allow Currer to drone on about have her take on gender.

I am willing to bet a fiver that Currer will say that you can’t tell if someone is a man by looking at them blah blah.

BeLemonNow · 27/07/2025 21:38

Who have we got and when does it start tomorrow please?

mrshoho · 27/07/2025 21:39

I believe we have to wait til Tuesday for the joy of Currer being cross examined.

WeMeetInFairIthilien · 27/07/2025 21:39

Just throwing this into the ring:

Cheese scone
Cream cheese
Courgette and tomato chutney

A perfect antidote to too much sweetness.

Don't get me wrong, I like a cream tea as much as the next woman.

But I sometimes crave savoury food too.

Yeah right! You know full well the first chance you get you'll be on your phone.

Just remember to make sure your bag is not snatchable first!

My feelings about raisins, sultanas, currants.

I love a plain scone, love a cherry scone and a place near me does really lovely savoury scones (my favourite was wild garlic and nigella seed) but one with sultanas, no.

If BezMills is a man (?), does that mean Fifer is a man?
I really think Fifer is female. I imagine her being quite old and sat up a corner by the fire drinking porter and possibly with a clay pipe.
After reading so much Fifer, does anyone else find their internal monologue is in Fifer speak?
