NHS Fife tries to silence nurse - Sandie Peggie vs NHS Fife Health Board and Dr Beth Upton - thread #39

nauticant · 23/07/2025 14:23

Sandie Peggie, a nurse at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy (VH), has brought claims in the employment tribunal against her employer; Fife Health Board (the Board) and another employee, Dr B Upton. Ms Peggie’s claims are of sexual harassment, harassment related to a protected belief, indirect discrimination and victimisation. Dr Upton claims to be a transwoman, that is observed as male at birth but asserting a female gender identity.

The Employment Tribunal hearing started on Monday 3 February 2025 and was expected to last 2 weeks. However, after 2 weeks it was not complete and it adjourned part-heard. It resumed on 16 July and the last day of evidence will be 28 July and then there will be 2 days of submissions from counsel meaning that the hearing will end on 30 July.

The hearing commenced with Sandie Peggie giving evidence. Dr Beth Upton gave evidence from Thursday 6 February to Wednesday 12 February.
Access to view the hearing remotely was obtainable by sending an email request to [email protected] by 5pm on Wednesday 9 July. Detailed instructions were provided here:

That would be unusual punctuation. I would certainly type "Re corridor discussion", as re just means "about" or "concerning". I have never come across "Re:" except in email subjects, and then always for a reply.

I use RE quite a lot in my notes at work, as in ‘x called in re important thing’ or ‘email re date for important thing’

I do not doubt that Paula Vennells believes she is a good person, proven by the fact that she is a priest.

She came to mind for me when I read that phrase.

Also her utterly rebarbative self-exultation that she’d ’earned my keep today’ by keeping a description of Horizon risks out of the Royal mail group’s flotation prospectus.
It is the same utter disregard for those she considered to be less worthy than herself and her cronies.

Yes agreed, the dysfunctional behaviour isn't helped by the cowardice of the people around them who won't raise it.

These are all adults paid to be effective.

I think it's a bit unfair to call "cowardice".

Okay? But it wouldn't stand up in court as something that is impossible or couldn't happen, which is the point. It may be unusual punctuation, but I would never generally use 're' outwith an email (millennial) so it's how I'm used to seeing it.

KS said emails were automatically deleted every 30 days or so, which is significant if individuals are asked to look for things - shouldn't have been left to them, should it?

I don't understand that. It's certainly not my experience either with NHS email or my personal. I've got tons of emails going back years. And 30 days is definitely too short for professional/nhs emails.
Anything ongoing like this she should have a specific folder for to enable back reference and checking chronology.

Maybe it's an optional setting she's chosen?? Seems bizarre to me.

EmeraldRoulette · 23/07/2025 19:08

Hi everyone
Really sorry to ask this
I've had a very long day and I've tried to find a precis of today on X but not really finding anything

I have obviously picked up that more doctors can't identify biological sex but that's about it

Is there a sort of two line summary of what happened today? Other than "crazy world continues to be crazy"? Thanks in advance if anyone can help.

MarieDeGournay · 23/07/2025 19:09

Gosh they've changed their tune! All those complaints must have worked.
I've only read it quickly - it doesn't mention the tears, does it?

have attempted to transcribe using audio recognition software in the past - it was not accurate as did not understand Scottish accents!!

This is why I can't use automated phone banking; it doesn't understand my accent!

Oh this is odd. Searle has just said 'she said, she said'

I've never heard this expression before until Bumba mentioned it.

Would this suggest Searle knows about bumbas testimony?

could be simply Baader-Meinhof phenomenon / frequency illusion

YouCantProveIt · 23/07/2025 19:11

The BBC is getting a tad better. This one will at least start to undo their bias a tad just in time for their FOI responses.

I could probably come up with something but not quickly!
There's a summary that appears daily - I don't have the link - boswell something, maybe somebody can supply?

bloodredfeaturewall · 23/07/2025 19:14

re outlook (see what I did here)
at my work it is set to archive automatically after 30 days. emails are then moved from the main inbox to another location (looks like another sub folder).
keeps the main inbox neat. and I still can find things that might have been important.

Maybe she means 'archived' rather than deleted. Nothing gets deleted (like properly deleted) in my experience.

Maybe the BBC have had some Ofcom complaints after the bs responses last week.

Dr Searle, finally off the big seat, gets to her car and sighs in relief. What a fuckin day.

She texts Dr Upton

Hi Beth just checking in, hope you're doing OK. I'm just finished in court, it was horrendous but I wouldn't let them say a bad word about you. I might be in a bit of trouble but I'm sure The Board will look after that for me. Anyway, let me know when you get this, let's catch up. K

Sorry new phone (long story) who dis?

🤣 👏

Glad to see an improvement on impartiality. Emotions are mentioned. As is KS leaving the stand.

@EmeraldRoulettesuggest you look at the Herald and The (Dundee] Courier online for a summary. Or Michael Foran, Wings Over Scotland etc.

Don’t the witnesses have access to the bundle? I sure as shit wouldn’t put myself in front of even a half asleep barrister without knowing the source material inside out and back to front.

No they don’t. Witnesses should only speak to what they know.

But Kate for starters should have her own timeline of all her crusading activities -

day 1 emailed everyone saying Sandie was a baddie
day 10 set up a secret squirrel group to get the baddie
day 12 - noticed Uptons receding hairline and big feet but repressed any idea he’s actually a man with long hair - must bend mind to the
absurdity
day 80 - told to check emails so put on 30 day auto delete
day 109 - chased down HCA to see if they support Beth. Nothing doing but will maybe pull race card if questioned.

And so on. Would have helped focus her mind instead of crying at the horror or her one man band vigilant group. Since sex isn’t binary she might be a man. Who knows?

This is a fairly standard setting for emails consigned to the waste bin. Waste bins are often cleared every 30 days. (I resist the word trash).

So KS in inadvertently telling us she tried to delete it.

If they disappear from her inbox/sent items, maybe she thinks they've been deleted, not knowing about archiving.

I found this great tweet by someone I follow on X which really sums up the situation:

"How did our society get so fucked up that a woman is sexually harassed at work by a colleague & not only do they not punish him, they punish her, tell him he can continue to sexually harass other women & to make sure none of them complain they make things up to make an example of her & encourage him to report her to police for not welcoming his sexual harassment."

Emporers new clothes darling.
