NHS Fife tries to silence nurse - Sandie Peggie vs NHS Fife Health Board and Dr Beth Upton - thread #34

Sandie Peggie, a nurse at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy (VH), has brought claims in the employment tribunal against her employer; Fife Health Board (the Board) and another employee, Dr B Upton. Ms Peggie’s claims are of sexual harassment, harassment related to a protected belief, indirect discrimination and victimisation. Dr Upton claims to be a transwoman, that is observed as male at birth but asserting a female gender identity.

The Employment Tribunal hearing started on Monday 3 February 2025 and was expected to last 2 weeks. However, after 2 weeks it was not complete and it adjourned part-heard. It resumed on 16 July and the last day of evidence will be 28 July and then there will be 2 days of submissions from counsel meaning that the hearing will end on 30 July.

The hearing commenced with Sandie Peggie giving evidence. Dr Beth Upton gave evidence from Thursday 6 February to Wednesday 12 February.

Access to view the hearing remotely was obtainable by sending an email request to [email protected] by 5pm on Wednesday 9 July. Detailed instructions were provided here:

Is a skelf what we'd call a spelk in NE England? (A splinter)

yes, a skelf is a splinter

GreenFriedTomato · 21/07/2025 10:44

I love celery. I go through a bunch every 2 days.
Cucumber on the other hand.... Yuk

Same

Late checking in but it seems not late for the start of public proceedings.

Peregrina · 21/07/2025 10:45

I was going to say sneck too.

As for Upton saying he was told he could use the women's Changing Room, no, his own testimony says that he was going to as was his right. What would have happened if someone had tried to stop him at that point? Well an ET with Upton taking Fife to court perhaps?

Waitwhat23 · 21/07/2025 10:45

Snib - the wee metal thing on the back of a lock which has a button that you can push down to fix the sliding bit of the lock in place and keep it there so that people can get in without a key

'Just come straight in when you get here, the door's on the snib'.

Big Sond has his normal court baffies on, much to JR's relief.

There's a well-worn Hoggs of Fife carrier bag in the corner, that looks about the right size to have a pair of size 12 arse-kickin bits in it. Big Sond has made sure it's quite clearly visible to both the Barristers. Nothing that happens in his chambers is an accident, he's done wi this pish.

I've got some Hoggs of Fife boots and, even at size 5, they are seriously big, tough boots. Big Sond's boots must be the size, and weight, of concrete building blocks.

My celery gets whizzed with onions and carrots, dolloped into the big holes in silicone muffin tray and bunged in the freezer. If I remember I pop out the frozen lumps and store them in a freezer bag.

Omg i always thought it was snig!! Well you learn something new every day!!

Hey I wouldn't argue it may well be pronounced differently in different parts of Scotland.
The West / East thing baffles me, the accent seems to change between Caldercrux and Blackridge, if you know the A89 or the train line.

Just want to thank @123ZYX for the tip about Press Reader (for accessing paywalled content) as I have checked and my local library has this. I have a library account, but never remember to check for stuff like this.

Oh yes, thanks for this. I use my local library all the time and am forever telling people about the digital content you can access that way, whilst completely forgetting about it myself! So very much appreciate the reminder too!

Love celery - I do a sort of bastardised version of a Waldorf salad - chopped up celery, apple, cheese and walnuts with a light emulsion dressing.

The mention of spring onions has made me think of the Scottish word for them - Syboes (pronounced cy bees).

In Ireland we call spring onions scallions ( Skal yons). Only quare posh people say spring onions.

Maybe they didn't find anyone to fill the post.

Yes, I'm 59... only one month away, though, from my bus pass and my teaching pension.

Notfinanciallyresponsibleforyou · 21/07/2025 10:47

I am another one late to these threads. I really appreciate all the work done by others who have awakened the rest of us to the threats posed by gender ideology and how captured organisations are.

jonathangb · 21/07/2025 10:48

@Shedmistress asked "Who is in charge exactly"?
Depends.. . . .
Are you buying or selling?

Jitrenka · 21/07/2025 10:43

Omg i always thought it was snig!! Well you learn something new every day!!

It was ‘leave it on the snick’ according to my Lancashire-born DM.
Snig is allegedly either a small eel or ‘to drag a log along the ground with a chain’ Down Under. Its also a bugger to type in without autocorrect making it sing.

That was my assumption! (Fellow smoggy)

MarieDeGournay · 21/07/2025 10:49

Do you have 'skelp' for a slap? It's from the Gaelic so you might have it over there.
We [in Ireland] have snip/snib for 'the door is on the snip'.
We call spring onions 'scallions' as they do in the USA.

VaddaABeetch · 21/07/2025 10:50

56 & reporting from Dublin

Ireland got rid of the the fawning over men in dresses to replace it with fawning over men in dresses. We also have the horror of self id.

All snuck in by stealth at the same time marriage equality.

I work for an organisation of 15k people. We have a new policy of use the changing rooms you feel most comfortable in.

I’m off today but have a hospital appointment later so you’ll keep me company while I’m waiting.

Chrysanthemum5 · 21/07/2025 10:50

Yes @MarieDeGournay skelp for a slap in my part of Scotland

rebmacesrevda · 21/07/2025 10:51

I had no idea snib was purely Scottish. I do like sneck and I'll try to use it!

My favourite Scottish word that I didn't know was Scottish is "outwith". I use it often, because it's very useful, and it took ten years of living in SE England before someone told me that nobody there knew what it meant. 😂

Shortshriftandlethal · 21/07/2025 10:47

Not round here. I had to wait till I was 66 for a bus pass (& haven't bothered applying).

BezMills · 21/07/2025 10:51

Skelp yes. And skud. You get skelped on the erse, or skuddit on the lug.
