NHS Fife tries to silence nurse - Sandie Peggie vs NHS Fife Health Board and Dr Beth Upton - thread #33

nauticant · 19/07/2025 21:05

Sandie Peggie, a nurse at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy (VH), has brought claims in the employment tribunal against her employer; Fife Health Board (the Board) and another employee, Dr B Upton. Ms Peggie’s claims are of sexual harassment, harassment related to a protected belief, indirect discrimination and victimisation. Dr Upton claims to be a transwoman, that is observed as male at birth but asserting a female gender identity.

The Employment Tribunal hearing started on Monday 3 February 2025 and was expected to last 2 weeks. However, after 2 weeks it was not complete and it adjourned part-heard. It resumed on 16 July and the last day of evidence will be 28 July and then there will be 2 days of submissions from counsel meaning that the hearing will end on 30 July.

The hearing commenced with Sandie Peggie giving evidence. Dr Beth Upton gave evidence from Thursday 6 February to Wednesday 12 February.
Access to view the hearing remotely was obtainable by sending an email request to [email protected] by 5pm on Wednesday 9 July. Detailed instructions were provided here:

I can't bring myself to start a continuation thread when we're only on page 32.

So, can I trust you lot not to add a couple of hundred pages to this thread overnight?

I wouldn’t trust them 😂

No alcohol is sold after 10pm, so lots of shops close then.
I also know someone to tried to buy a bottle for a gift enroute to work and got told not before 10am.

I don't drink, I'd be fine!

Yep - the Aussie’s and night owls were out in force last night…

And us Brits in NZ :)

SlackJawedDisbeliefXY · 20/07/2025 23:30

.. and on the seventh day, I finally caught up on the NHS Fife thread.

GreenFriedTomato · 20/07/2025 23:33

I can't believe this thread was only started yesterday evening and it looks like it might be full by the time the tribunal resumes tomorrow morning!

I'm WFH tomorrow, but I have a lot of work to get through so need to be disciplined 😭

Apply for a job with NHS Fife, and them you can be sure you will be disciplined.😁

Well, I hear there may be a few vacancies coming up, but I'm not sure I could handle the notoriety...

guinnessguzzler · 20/07/2025 23:45

Same @Lins77 so you can expect me to be on here right through 😂

Thanks for all the bantz, wims, and the serious comments too. See you all tomorrow!

ErrolTheDragon · 20/07/2025 23:50

I couldn’t keep up with this thread even on a lazy Sunday when the tribunal wasn’t in action so I’ve no hope!

Are you thinking these rooms south of the Observation ward with the Wcs within them. I’m guessing those WCs are wet rooms / disabled access too. There’s at least six of those. So perhaps not those I’m guessing they are patient rooms. Otherwise it could be the room left of the screen which looks like perhaps lockers lined up.

Edited

Agree, those are patient rooms with some sort of wash/bathroom.

I thought CRs may be where my red X marks the spots, as each has two doors, which prevents anyone passing from seeing people changing inside when first door is swung open.

edit picture has disappeared, may be in moderation for a bit?

edit2 but I checked my last post and I said bottom left, I meant bottom right!
Left side as we look on screen is towards main entrance of A&E. RHS exit goes to one of carparks Also the outer corridor on rhs fits with EP's description of there being a consultant corridor that leads to (?observation) wards and then CRs being further away still.

Not that this really matters but I love a map to know where things are!

We also can’t buy booze before 10 am and can’t get the buy 6 bottles for a discount as we in Scotland can’t be trusted for the multi buy.

some people in Fife health board may find this very detrimental

I didn’t realise Scotland was different. To my shame and I apologise to all Scot’s and Welsh here for assuming they were. On Sunday opening hours personally I’d love them all to be closed.
Hope everyone’s stocked up on snacks for tomorrow though.

We found the locker rooms. See upthread or here’s a screen shot . Women’s locker room ( opposite the grey in image ) about 2m x 3.7m. If you put the lockers on the wall right hand side of door its a real squeeze past people whilst they’re changing. Imagine women sharing that with a man.
plus no privacy lobby so when the door opens everyone sees you!

This says that there were changing room s for medics and he chose to use the female CR used mainly by nurses.

ickky · 21/07/2025 00:16

@DrPrunesqualer

Why are the women's changing room two thirds smaller than the men's?

I thought there was a higher proportion of women in the NHS.

Typical.

There have also been repeated claims that the female doctors use the nurses changing rooms as well.

I trust SP’s legal team in their assessment of relevant issues.

snickersbarchild · 20/07/2025 21:59

I guess my role is redundant now that Sandie has been cleared of endangering patient safety.

Calendar cleared for tomorrow.

It seems impossible that SnickersBarChild's family doesn't recognise themselves, or at least, won't recognise themselves at some point in future, as having played a Best Supporting Character role in a Halloween-themed tribunal argument. There are probably also several MissingPatients who got fed up waiting in A&E sometime between October-Dec 2023 who now wonder if their impatience and longing for a cup of tea at home has somehow played a part in the drama. 😁

It's nobody's business to know, obvs, but if it sparks an interest in law there may one day in the future be a SnickersBarKC advocating in a court room near Fife.

Don’t worry. Take a look at the truly appalling case of Eva Michalak. The senior figures were named as outright liars by that ET. Their names were everywhere in the press.

Apart from one demotion, it’s been scarcely a blip in their careers. Unlike the victim whose life was destroyed by them.

Good grief! That doesn't look big enough! I thought it had a toilet in it too? And wash basins? If the door is to scale I can't see how that can be right? Wow though.

Is there any way that might be separate locker only facilities for the staff in that area? The bigger rooms with two way entry seem to fit better with the descriptions given.

Oh god I am way too invested in this I need to go to bed! 😂

I know. I’m an architect and I have no idea why! Provision is supposed to be based on population. We have standards, clearly they were ignored.

It’s not shown on the plan. Maybe it was added after they got planning as these are from the approved planning drawings that @anyolddinosaur found.
