https://www.amnesty.org.uk/anti-rights

ADF (one of the religious right orgs that some GC groups have been in bed with), are specifically mentioned here.

I doubt that many here will be interested given that it doesn't involve deranged, seething hate of trans people, but if anything this is a 'told you so' for future me to use.

A powerful anti-rights movement is growing in the UK

A powerful anti-rights movement is growing in the UK, threatening to roll back our hard-won freedoms and rewrite the rules on whose rights, bodies and lives deserve protection. But - we refuse to be divided. @amnestyUK

Afraid not. It's the world's biggest and leading human rights org like it or not.

Amnesty Int. a decade ago made the decision to reject the Nordic Model and support complete decrim for sex work instead which has came in handy for beginning to fight against the Ash Regan bill. The MSPs on the fence over it or think it might be a good idea just tell them it's opposed by Amnesty Int. and the World Health Org then they will quickly reconsider.

You know what else Amnesty opposed?

Female people being allowed to exist in law.

Fuck them. Fuck them right in the eye.

Hi Chris, by all means let's hear how Amnesty's pro-pimp position is a vital human rights intervention.

Because it centres men and they're the only humans with rights that matter.

But it was okay for Stonewall to have the luxury of US funding because it was the right sort?

LeftieRightsHoarder · 09/07/2025 23:09

Amnesty sent placards to transactivists picketing a Filia conference on violence against women and children. It also supports prostitution in developing countries. It is a disgrace.

Amnesty used to be great. Really great. I wrote so many letters.

<sigh>

Me too! I went to a lunchtime club at school and wrote so many letters.... I dont recognise it anymore.

DuesToTheDirt · 09/07/2025 23:24

Oh yes, Amnesty, the wonderful organisation which works hard to support free speech for all as long as you agree with them.

"Amnesty Ireland, the National Women’s Council of Ireland, and a host of other Irish NGOs have signed an open letter calling on politicians to “no longer provide legitimate representation” to those with critical views on transgenderism and gender ideology, which the letter equals with “bigoted beliefs that are aligned with far right ideologies.” It is unclear if these organisations believe that politicians should begin simply totally ignoring gender critical constituents or if they are of the view that, in this particular instance, universal suffrage may have been somewhat of a mistake."

Can we please get the CEO of Amnesty on some more broadcasts? He was marvellous in Operation Let Them Speak. Garbled, incoherent, fact free and blatantly sex discriminatory.

I know 2 people who listened on Women's Hour and immediately checked their bank accounts to stop their donations. Top job!

My ex husband had a Direct Debit to Amnesty for years. Stopped it at the first sign of the anti-women shit. I assume this WH was some time after otherwise you could add another one to your list!

The organisation which back in the day started off asking people to giving a voice to an unpopular opinion and now campaigns to remove the rights of people to engage in the democratic process Amnesty?

This.

The now campaign for the opposite of what they were founded to do.

They are an organisation of pathetic wankers.

GallantKumquat · 10/07/2025 02:47

Does anyone know if there's a public report to back the assertions? In particular I find the following highly implausible:

"We mapped 12 groups promoting the harmful and abusive practice of so-called 'conversion therapy,' aiming to ‘change’ or suppress people’s sexual orientation or gender identity. The spending of 4 of these surged by nearly 165%, marking the fastest growth of all categories tracked.

Despite the UK government announcing plans ban on conversion therapy in July 2024, no legislation has yet materialised. "

I'm quite curious about the list of 12 groups. I'm not aware of any groups that, even within the broadest definition, are promoting conversion therapy to change or suppress sexual orientation. With respect to gender identity anyone promoting approaches that seek to address underlying psychological issues first or who disagree with any aspect of gender ideology dogma could be labeled as 'advocating for conversion therapy'. Genspect is probably the most famous, though even SexMatters could probably be classified under that rubric.

I suspect one of the reasons Labour kicked the conversion therapy bill into the long grass is because whenever they asked for examples of what they were supposed to be banning, no one was able to produce objectionable cases.

And here’s another one

Who also likes to start threads like this too if I remember correctly.

Helleofabore · 10/07/2025 08:09

For there to be accurate evidence to support Amnesty’s claim. several things would need to be defined.

One of those would have to be ‘conversion therapy’.

In the UK, conversion therapy is already against the law. As it should be. What has been wrongfully described as conversion therapy is exploratory therapy. It is anything other than affirmation.

So, this article seems to be using misinformation to bring in the ‘LGBT’ population into their report. Most likely to get more funding.

If they supplied the details, and were up front about what was being referred to, this report probably would be canned for inaccuracy. But then they wouldn’t get the funding would they.

RedToothBrush · 10/07/2025 08:26

Well given that left wing grass roots women's organisations have been labelled as nazi and far right I think we have reached a point of labelling anything that remotely disagrees with the 'official internationally approved trans line' as 'anti-trans' regardless of whether it's left wing, right wing, pro-any other group, martian, safeguarding.

So anyone who doesn't agree is being smeared.

Meanwhile if you follow the money in the trans industry it gets murky quickly. But talking about that will get you labelled as far right and anti-trans.

Here's the thing. No one gives a fuck anymore because they are so fed up of all the bullshit and not being allowed to talk about their own issues in peace without 'but what about the transpeople' when the subject has fuck all to do with trans and it's a massive waste of time, effort and emotional headspace.

So yeah the far right could be taking advantage of the total loss of patience with it all, but that's not the fault of women campaigners campaigning for women's rights in the UK. That due to the utter lack of respect the trans movement has for anyone but themselves.

Joyunlimited · 10/07/2025 08:29

It’s really sad that I can no longer have any respect for Amnesty. Their stance on this makes me wonder whether I can trust what they say about other human rights topics.

RedToothBrush · 10/07/2025 08:31

I donated to amnesty back in the day. I stopped due to being skint. I then was bombarded and harassed for donations. What they sent me, clearly cost more than what I had donated in the first place. I realised it was a total con and none of the money I donated was going to the causes I thought.
