ADF (one of the religious right orgs that some GC groups have been in bed with), are specifically mentioned here.

I doubt that many here will be interested given that it doesn't involve deranged, seething hate of trans people, but if anything this is a 'told you so' for future me to use.

A powerful anti-rights movement is growing in the UK

A powerful anti-rights movement is growing in the UK, threatening to roll back our hard-won freedoms and rewrite the rules on whose rights, bodies and lives deserve protection. But - we refuse to be divided. @amnestyUK

I read it and am none the wiser as to Bee’s point.

”Some US Christian fundamentalists have branches in the U.K. to attempt to influence policy and also talk women out of abortions”

So what? That’s their right. Just as it’s mine to write to my MP and to counter-protest the frothing lunatics outside the Marie Stopes centre in my city. I believe in access to termination as early as possible and as late as necessary, they believe it’s a sun, we both campaign for our beliefs.

The Trump presidencies have emboldened some of the more lunatic fringe of the US Right just as Brexit emboldened some of the more lunatic racists here.

WTAF does that have to do with this board and the issues we debate here? And could Amnesty International get back to helping political prisoners integrated of trying to whip up some fervour of Scary American Baddies?

Anti-gender / Anti-rights orgs pushing money in to the UK to attack women and LGBTQ rights - Amnesty

Sorry but this discredited organisation doesn't support you & the thread title is inaccurate. There is no mention of LGBTQ in that article. There is LGBTI mentioned four times & one LGBTI+

Didn't they get the message that using the term Intersex is distasteful to those with DSDs? Plus they don't want force teaming with LGB & especially not with T.

Amnesty, who provide placards reading ‘I AM WHO I SAY I AM’ which is a bloody dangerous message when it comes to safeguarding and surely not something anyone with any sense would teach their kids.

That was just one more irresponsible feature of Steph Richards’s Portsmouth FiLiA protest, with the shouting and the chalked dick pics.

This. So much. Just so bloody irresponsible and awful. Anyone who knows anything about about safeguarding would know this is a red flag. Thanks Empress Kitty for reminding me of that horror. Damn Amnesty . Once I was proud to donate £2 a month and send off letters etc on their behalf . Now they need to get in the bin. Pimp enablers.

MrsTerryPratchett · 09/07/2025 15:45

Is this another thread Bee isn’t returning to. Like a busy bee only visiting each flower once.

PrettyDamnCosmic · 09/07/2025 15:48

Just remembered it's the Amnesty International that campaigns for single sex toilets overseas but against them in the UK.

KeepTalkingBeth · 09/07/2025 15:49

Not this again.

Bee in the UK sex realism is a grassroots movement started by feminist women, the overwhelming majority of which are on the left of the political spectrum.

There are so many issues that you could start threads about if you care about trans people. Bringing up the US far right funding bogeyman is not getting you anywhere

But please carry on posting, generating revenue for mumsnet and keeping threads on feminist board on active!

I knew someone who worked for them back in the day. She said her job was to try to work herself unemployed. Instead of doing what they are doing now, desperately trying to stay relevant by throwing women to the wolves.

Just like Stonewall.

Have you got a link? I believe you but would love to see it!

This is so far from their original aims :(

I suppose those who began Amnesty feel they have much in common with those who began Stonewall. Their message - and their work has been so subverted. (I was a strong supporter of the original Stonewall too.)

Wow, I can't quite believe Amnesty are advocating to disenfranchise anyone. How far they've fallen.

Helleofabore · 09/07/2025 16:07

There is a reason Amnesty is also known as Amnasty.

And in the meantime, this OP has just stated that a male person's breast is identical to a female person's breast. And did so with great confidence and authority too.

Another male expert on the female body and breastfeeding! I feel seriously embarrassed for them when these posters think this is the case.

stop shitposting.

If you would change your tone, and not write such inflamatory first posts, insulting everyone and then challenging us not to be cross with you, you would get much better answers.

But for the record: just because two organisations have one thing in common, it does not mean that their goals are in alignment over everything else.

Bee wants to be very careful with the forced-teaming stuff, considering who transactivists have often been aligned with.

zanahoria · 09/07/2025 16:11

Our analysis maps the nature and finances of 65 anti-rights groups operating across the UK, including anti-abortion organisations, groups promoting so-called "conversion therapy," UK branches of powerful US-based organisations, and ultra-conservative Christian groups, with many groups emerging since 2015.

are any of these gender critical feminists?

Edited

The difference is that to a large extent the aims of Stonewall have all been achieved so to keep the gravy train rolling they latched onto transexuals as the new oppressed group.
Amnesty on the other hand have completely lost the plot. There are just as many countries abusing human rights as there were sixty-odd years when Amnesty was founded. That's really abusing human rights too like murder, imprisonment & torture. The founders must be spinning in their graves to see the organisation concentrate on campaigning against women's rights in the UK instead.

What the hell have Amnesty been smoking?

SidewaysOtter · 09/07/2025 16:15

I asked on another thread you started but you never bothered to answer.

Course not. Bee’s threads are usually a drive-by plop of whatever nonsense he’s found now, in another tedious attempt to “educate” us.

And Amnesty have long since joined Stonewall as a busted flush.

Mate, the gents is over there. Nobody's going to beat you up.

Mumsnet, why did you take the laugh react from us? Why?

Bannedontherun · 09/07/2025 16:17

not read thread cannot be arsed. Relieved to learn that the named (well sort of) groups with shedloads of Monet have nothing to do with us.

The usual. High on their own morality.

yetanotherusernameAgain · 09/07/2025 16:20

The use of rhetoric in that article is embarrassingly poor and makes me question the veracity of anything they say.

I must be really behind the times - what happened to the Amnesty International that campaigned on behalf of political prisoners and whose national branches remained impartial about activities in their own country? Looks like they've gone the way of the Green Party and expanded into left-wing progressive causes.

TheOtherRaven · 09/07/2025 16:21

Fgs, go and use the consenting women and leave the non consenting ones alone, mate. They don't want to play with you, and they don't have to.
