ADF (one of the religious right orgs that some GC groups have been in bed with), are specifically mentioned here.

I doubt that many here will be interested given that it doesn't involve deranged, seething hate of trans people, but if anything this is a 'told you so' for future me to use.

A powerful anti-rights movement is growing in the UK

A powerful anti-rights movement is growing in the UK, threatening to roll back our hard-won freedoms and rewrite the rules on whose rights, bodies and lives deserve protection. But - we refuse to be divided. @amnestyUK

Amnesty lost their way a long time ago so this is just more illiberal woke BS from the authoritarian hard left. Might as well be Donald Trump speaking for all the value they bring to the world these days. If you try to rationalise the harm experienced by women by sex work and gender ideology then your pants are on fire.

Mumsnet, why did you take the laugh react from us? Why?

the cynic in me says so that we have to reply to the post now, so engagement is higher...

the OP would have been a prime candidate for us to have used the "laugh" reaction, only for the poster to complain to MN that we were all being nasty bigoted bullies.

Coatsoff42 · 09/07/2025 16:27

I read the OPs post as trans people are full of deranged seething hate! Having been on Reddit I can fully believe it.
^^

I like to step outside the echo chamber and make sure I’m not missing something but crikey the acid bile and vitriol on Reddit is a lot, they’re not open to a different view, or live and let live, we are all different, we don’t all believe the same etc are they? Full of deranged seething hate indeed.

Ironically, before someone pointed out that motivation not long after they got rid of it, that usage had never occurred to me! Wish it had, though...

The usual. High on their own morality.

It's like all of the people who have knowledge, understanding, reasoning and gravitas have left the building and tick-tock progressives have rushed in to fill the space

And Amnesty, really? Amnesty who thinks sex "work" is fine and dandy, fuck off.

Amnesty Int. support complete decriminalisation of sex work yes. There is a livechat thread here about the topic if you're interested.

Have you got a link? I believe you but would love to see it!

@MrsTerryPratchett

It was on twitter at the time
From memory it was not a "no vote" which is constitutionally protected anyway.

It was a demand to have politicians refuse to engage with the non-belivers and provide no type of political representation.

Irish politics is all about local issues any and every issue. So much so that politicians have written Court character reference letters for convicted rapists to reduce their likely sentence

Exactly. They’re just men’s sexual rights activists now.

Pretty much every bandwagon acquired by the political gender lobby was turned upside down, shaken free of anything and everyone other than the lobby's interests, and then joy-ridden for as much gain as possible until broken and discredited beyond survival.

There's a road of wrecked once-great institutions behind them, the BBC included.

Ah Bee, you’re just really boring now. I suggest you heed the words of Jane Austen

Completely revolting venal idiots.

Amnesty, who provide placards reading ‘I AM WHO I SAY I AM’ which is a bloody dangerous message when it comes to safeguarding and surely not something anyone with any sense would teach their kids.

That was just one more irresponsible feature of Steph Richards’s Portsmouth FiLiA protest, with the shouting and the chalked dick pics.

This.

EmpressaurusKitty · 09/07/2025 17:41

Yes.

There must have been countless criminals through history who depended on people believing they were who they said they were. Like Jimmy Savile.

It’s a bloody terrible principle to push but that point appears to have escaped Amnesty & the protesters wielding the placards.

I was on one of the site stuff threads and posters came to boast about using it to bully people in private but were it appears not brave enough to post the laughter emoji in public for all to see and judge.

Thats why we cant have nice stuff🤷‍♀️

Link to article about how Human rights organisations in Ireland are calling for the disenfranchisement of those who do not share their political views

Honestly, the bare faced cheek of them. How dare they ? 🤬

Keenovay · 09/07/2025 17:53

I'm not seeing anything in Amnesty's analysis that's specifically about groups targetting trans people - but plenty that lefty gender critical feminists wouldn't stand for either eg rollback of abortion rights, gay conversion therapy etc.

The OP suggests there's a link between UK GC feminists and ultra-conservative Christian fundamentalists, without concrete evidence of funding or other relationships.

In other news, both me and Jimmy Saville both enjoy pop music. Therefore I must be a kiddy fiddler.

Is this really the best you can manage @BeeSouriante ?

Summeriscumin · 09/07/2025 18:09

Embarrassing to post such drivel, OP.

Amnesty are a joke to most people these days.

MarieDeGournay · 09/07/2025 18:12

If further proof were needed that we live in a post-factual world, this kind of thing provides it.
Any and all kinds of untrue nonsense gets thrown at GC feminists, TRAs and their allies will lap it up, and it will strengthen their irrational beliefs. Verifiable facts have no place in their arguments.

It's a good work-out for our brains to counter the claims in daft posts like Bee's, and sometimes it's so easy to disprove them, it's entertaining. And then there are the recipes🍰😄
But they'll just come back with some other nonsense, or some slight variant on old nonsense, e.g. a slightly different source of all this right-wing money that none of us ever get.😠

potpourree · 09/07/2025 18:16

but if anything this is a 'told you so' for future me to use.

Is this the first honest thing you've written?

Give me one example of seething hate that I have posted on here (that isn't directed at dishonesty or MAGA types).

Or carry on lying about it - totally up to you, but we're all going see which it is you choose, @BeeSouriante .

Say something true, or lie?

yetanotherusernameAgain · 09/07/2025 16:20

The use of rhetoric in that article is embarrassingly poor and makes me question the veracity of anything they say.

I must be really behind the times - what happened to the Amnesty International that campaigned on behalf of political prisoners and whose national branches remained impartial about activities in their own country? Looks like they've gone the way of the Green Party and expanded into left-wing progressive causes.

It shocked me, too. There have been a few things specific to women's rights that have made me very wary indeed of Amnesty, but this is remarkable, really.

Anti-rights?! That's the language of a confused tween.

I also find the lack of additional detail and context, and implicit demonisation of some religious beliefs, disturbing. There's such an obvious irony in labelling groups as being "anti-rights" for exercising their own freedom of speech and belief. That this isn't seen or acknowledged in the article speaks to one of two things:

  1. Cynical dumbing down of complex issues to get readers on board, OR
  2. Limited understanding of said issues.

Neither inspires confidence.

Anti-rights, indeed!

"Go back upstairs, and spend at least 30 more minutes on that before tea, Amy. The teacher won't accept such lazy work now you've started in secondary. And remember to tidy your room while you're there!"

ghostyslovesheets · 09/07/2025 18:26

Oh dear

look I collected food for the miners, went to Greenham, marched for an equal AOC, protested s28, supported AIDS and HIV charities, have been a trade union and Labour Party member for 40 years

NO One paid me to believe women are a sex class , women deserve their own spaces free from men and that men can’t be women - that’s my belief and has been for probably 45 years

Do they really believe women can’t form their own opinions? Fuck me!

I also used to support Amnesty back when they actually did useful things

But I need a holiday so if anyone has this money can you share it - ta!

The only place ultra conservative Christian fundamentalists with millions of pounds to spend and British GC Feminists are linked are in the OP’s fevered brain.
