‘[Owen] seems to be upset because she had a chuckle about his erratic behaviour on Piers Morgan Uncensored last week. In response to an X user who wondered if Jones might have partaken of the white stuff before fidgeting and gurning his way through Morgan’s show, Rowling tweeted: “Well, he is known as Talcum X.”

Jones is hopping mad. He’s even written a 1,300-word screed on what a rotter Rowling is, which I’m sure we can all agree is a perfectly normal response to a woman making a joke.’

😂😂 and also 🤮🤢

But the post was not just deleted- it evaporated! I've not seen that done before.

It's JKR's fault. Asshole she is.

TwiceForLunch · 09/07/2025 20:07

Bloody knew it. Bet she makes no mention of it either.

It's probably her fault our bins weren't collected this week.

Bloody billionaires. She didn't even speak out on Twitter against it. Bin-phobe.

Perhaps it was a post the slip through a hole in the space time continuum, and it's not due to appear until a week next Tuesday, all of those who saw it should keep an eye out for it for when it returns in the proper time and space.

This bloke got my wife back to me and this guy helped me. Email him for relationship advice. Email address.

Though a lot less legible than that.

Just because someone disagrees with you does not mean they haven't heard you or understood you.

You: "Or maybe any foreign “imposing” of anything is always reprehensible." [Emphasis added]

You: "If your starting position is to “impose western concepts of women’s rights on Arab countries” then yes you ARE a coloniser and yes that is always a bad thing" [Emphasis added]

Me: Well no, I don't agree that it's always be reprehensible because imposing measures to immediately protect women and children from terrible suffering such as rape and murder is better than letting it happen just so that you can avoid feeling like a coloniser.

You: ?!?!?

And here's a bonus just to prove I've read the whole thing!

You: "What western commentators should strive to do is work WITH women’s rights organisations in those areas, as allies and supporters. Not conquerors. Understand what they need and provide that instead of dictating to them what the correct model is."

Me: I am not a total moral relativist so I think that there are things which are always wrong, no matter the context or what anybody says. Rape and extreme misogynist subjugation are two. It is absolutely preferable, better, superior not to have it in any culture. The correct model is always to prevent it being perpetrated immediately, whatever the locals might think.

Your system of weeks? Months? Years? during which you consult with local groups to see whether or not they might like you to stop it and, if so, how and in what time frame has the advantage of making damn sure that noone can level the accusation of "coloniser" or "conqueror" at you but the unfortunate disadvantage of standing by while tens, hundreds, thousands more women and children are brought to suffering in the meantime. My preference if at all possible is to start by imposing measures that prevent those same tens, hundreds or thousands from ever suffering and let people call me what they like.

We can then consult and sort out everything else from that starting point.

Your approach sounds terribly nice until you follow the thought through to its practical implications.

I fear this may be a waste of time, but at least it's here for others to read should they wish to.

Yep you did not read what I said.

You keep going back to the first sentence. Try reading past that.

You are coming from a position paternalism where you think that human and women’s rights organisations in those locations don’t exist and aren’t already doing the work. Only you can no why you prefer to push them out they way and fly in like a white saviour instead.

My violas have wilted and has there been one single solitary word on this from her on this matter? There has not; she clearly couldn't give a rat's ass. Dreadful woman.

I totally agree.

JKR, being an independent writer with independent means, and not being a journalist with a column in a national newspaper, has the right to engage on whatever topic she so chooses with an emphasis on her choice and agency.

Who does OJ think he is ordering her about?

This is what it comes down to. Whether or not one happens to agree with OJs views on Gaza or not, his expectation that he can demand prominent women to address his preferred issue is misogyny.

GallantKumquat · 10/07/2025 00:15

I think this thread illustrates a key problem of political/policy debate on the left. As a substantial public figure who has dedicated a large amount of time, effort and money to advocate for various causes and who's opinions are considered and informed, Rowling has the right to be debated based on the strength of her particular arguments rather than aspersions on her character.

It's entirely possible to think her to be right on the trans debate and wrong on the Palestinian one. And for someone to feel that the Palestinian issue is the more important. But it doesn't follow that her points on the trans issue are suddenly invalid. One of the reasons the trans issue is so pernicious is that TRAs argue by appropriating other causes. They should be called out on that, that's essentially the point of the Telegraph article, though I wish it had been put in even stronger terms and it's somewhat dispiriting that by jumping into the Palestinian debate, MN is essentially falling into Jones' logical fallacy.

OJ is a twit.

But, off topic - the idea that people with ADHD respond differently to stimulants is a myth.

That's why people use amphetamines and other stimulants like caffeine to focus, for example students have often used them illicitly for studying.

Mistyglade · 10/07/2025 01:04

Beg your pardon I haven’t rtft but elvanse 40mg prescribed for ADHD slows you right down so you chill a bit. Whatever he’s on it sure ain’t that!
