Mayor of London Sadiq Khan speaks out on Supreme Court’s definition of ‘sex’

IwantToRetire · 07/07/2025 20:15

“As the Mayor of London I meet regularly with trans Londoners and I know the stigma they face, the discrimination they face. I know this is one of those vulnerable communities across the country and across the world, and I’m fed up with trans people being used as a political football.

“I’m fed up with them being at the centre of a cruel cultural war. And that’s why it’s really important that the Equality and Human Rights Commission comes up with proper guidance because what I don’t want is us to regress the rights that have been hard-fought and won been rowed back.”

I was going to add this to the tread about Labour letting down the trans community but that has been deleted for infringing copyright.

Muppet. What a disappointment.

myplace · 07/07/2025 20:16

@IwantToRetire how did that thread infringe copyright? I haven’t been on it today. Can’t imagine what that’s about!

SternJoyousBee · 07/07/2025 20:18

Knowing that sex is binary and immutable is not a fucking culture war! This is just the usual emotive bullshit to try and stop actual conversation and debate about competing rights. Khan just wants women to shut up and let the men do what they want whenever they want.

porridgecake · 07/07/2025 20:18

Between him and Natasha Devon I am really annoyed about people who should know better using a public platform to spread lies.

porridgecake · 07/07/2025 20:19

These are just the 2 most recent.

mb2512cat · 07/07/2025 20:21

I hadn’t realised he was such a misogynist until I read how he’d treated Joan Smith. Wish I’d never voted for him. Did you see his X post with the nazi-esq imagery and implying it relates to Sex Matters, LGB alliance etc. He’s a nasty piece of work.

Genuinely....what makes them the most vulnerable?.trans women are more vulnerable than women? Why are they?.I don't get it.

How many women are killed or assaulted or abused by men?

What a worm he is.

Igneococcus · 07/07/2025 20:25

Oh good, for a brief moment I thought I have to spend my evening re-evaluating my opinion of SK but no, not necessary I see, I might just go for a nice evening walk after all.

viques · 07/07/2025 20:25

What rights? Trans people have exactly the same rights as the rest of the population.

What additional rights do trans people think they need? Apart from a twelfth of the year being dedicated to bolstering their fragile egos, paid for by the rest of us, especially those of us who have to be content with one day a year to celebrate being exactly one half of the human race.

DisforDarkChocolate · 07/07/2025 20:26

So he's not bothered about the impact on women's rights of being forced to share single sex spaces. Fucking Muppet doesn't cover it. There are a lot more women voters but we're obviously not vulnerable enough.

Screamingabdabz · 07/07/2025 20:27

He clearly doesn’t know what the fuck he’s talking about. Quelle surprise! 🙄

Toseland · 07/07/2025 20:31

...I don’t want is us to regress the rights that have been hard-fought and won...
What rights did they fight hard for and win Mr Khan?!

spannasaurus · 07/07/2025 20:32

And that’s why it’s really important that the Equality and Human Rights Commission comes up with proper guidance because what I don’t want is us to regress the rights that have been hard-fought and won been rowed back.”

Well I agree with his statement here. I hope that the EHRC does come up with proper guidance in accordance with the supreme court judgement as I don't want us to regress the rights that have been hard fought for by women.

I suspect he really means that he hopes that the EHRC ignores the ruling when drawing up guidance

Igneococcus · 07/07/2025 20:34

The thing I find most baffling, as the granddaughter and sister of politicians (not in the UK), is how crap at politics these people are. This was a golden opportunity to step back from this idiocy "court ruling, dudes, nothing I can do about it, lets just make the best of it" but no, he has to keep this shit up. Fool.

BoeotianNightmare · 07/07/2025 20:36

Yet another one churning out the same threadbare old phrases with no thought to what they actually mean or any evidential basis. Very poor.

KathyMalloryKicksAss · 07/07/2025 20:39

Rights that have been hard fought and won?

More like rights that have been stolen and used illegally.

FrippEnos · 07/07/2025 20:41

What rights have been "hard-fought and won" by trans people?

They have all the rights that have been won by LGB and women.
Anything that have been "rowed back" are rights that they have stolen off other people, single sex space, sports, pushing in front of medical care, wanting to be treated as a special case for legal documents.

The bloke is an absolute muppet.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 07/07/2025 20:41

Hasn't he always identified as a dyed in the wool old misogynist when it comes to women?

I imagine that the author of the article complained as he wouldn't want his valued status of the "i" very special trans correspondent made available to the the GC harridans on FWR!
https://inews.co.uk/opinion/labour-promised-lgbt-voters-a-reset-now-many-feel-betrayed-3787433 - which can be read by going to archive.ph and copying the newspaper link.

Special note to MNHQ I am not breaching copy right but making this statement of fact as i didn't create the archive. It has already been done and is therefore in the public domain.

Oh for fuck's sake.

Doesn't know anything about it, hasn't read the judgement, doesn't get any of it, and thinks women are second class.

This is the political equipment of the commercial go woke go broke.

it's his personal Budweiser moment

Gagagardener · 07/07/2025 21:02

When I read the article in today's i , I was going to post a request that someone wd write to the the paper. I haven't time or energy to do it. I hope someone with more headspace than I am has.

Toseland · 07/07/2025 20:31

...I don’t want is us to regress the rights that have been hard-fought and won...
What rights did they fight hard for and win Mr Khan?!

The right for men to have access to naked/vulnerable/urinating women.

The right for men to assume women's consent.

The right for men to ignore women's dissent.

The right for men to silence women.

OvaHere · 07/07/2025 21:03

He does know that the EHRC can only create guidance based on the ruling? The ruling that says women are female.

They can't just produce something in opposition to the SC judgment.

Datun · 07/07/2025 21:04

No rights have been 'regressed'.

READ the judgement, you numpty.
