Islington Council slams 'botched' single sex spaces guidance

IwantToRetire · 03/07/2025 20:14

The council argues that the new guidance, which suggests that staff should check a person’s sex at birth before granting access to single-sex services or spaces, is unworkable and risks breaching individuals’ privacy and exposing them to harassment.

"Expecting reception staff in a busy leisure centre or a domestic violence service to determine whether someone is trans, without subjecting them to harassment or breaching their right to privacy, is not practical.

"It risks legal confusion and a culture of suspicion.

"That’s why we have called for the EHRC to pause this botched process – properly listening to trans communities – rather than simply causing further confusion."

'Botched' single sex spaces rules 'risks harassment and discrimination'

They do, tens of thousands of them marched with us at PRIDE on satuday. The 15 who disagree had a very sad photo op on a sidewalk.

More interesting language.

Sidewalk indeed.

Keep digging.

Polls are only as good as the way questions are formed and polling groups selected, and yougov methodology of both is notoriously debatable and sometimes outright transphobic.

That's why despite all this yap and online support you think you have, all you got was sad 15 people by the sidewalk having to abandon their big protest march.

However, Aida is correct that polls are only as good as the way questions are formed and polling groups are selected.

Which is why it is very concerning to see the constant reference to very large polls from biasedly engaged populations, with rewards offered for specifically answering that particular poll, with ambiguous questions about safety, suicide etc being used to shape policy, even law, and to silence discussion. Or seeing ambiguous questions from reputable polling agencies misused.

Whereas, independently run polls that specifically ask direct questions with very clear and unforced answers (ie. allowing a neutral answer and not forcing respondents to choose 'slightly' positive or negative instead) are considered a good simulation for gauging public opinion.

I am very happy to discuss this with you Aida and I know others also will have experience and opinions to off, so please tell us in more detail what is wrong with yougov polls.

Bathrooms, sidewalks - do you think they are being funded by some shadowy American right-wing group to talk like that?

Maybe that's where all the money from shadowy right-wing groups is going - it's certainly not arriving in my bank account, and I've been assiduously GC for years now

Children? Aida is a man who claims to be a woman. He even claims to be a lesbian. If he can lie about that you cannot believe a word he says about anything else.

True.

SigourneyHoward · 07/07/2025 11:26

I think it was Aida who said they weren’t planning on attending Pride this year but upon hearing of break away events declared that they’d “come over” which suggests travelling in from somewhere outside of GB. Flying in from US seems a bit of an extreme reaction to a group of women gathering but what do I know!

Maybe a Crowdfunder to pay for his plane ticket next year so he can attend "Let Them Speak" in person?

yes, maybe TRAs are all a long running psy op to push people to their side 😂

@Helleofabore I don't think Aida et al realise how genuinely frightening they are. The signs, the things they say online. I have thought twice about making certain comments online let alone attending an event (not that I could even if I wanted to).

They realise. That's the point, to try and make women too scared to speak in public

They definitely realise and it's a masturbatory aid for them, to be plain.

It explains the lone random bloke with the American accent who shouted.

That’s why Let Women Speak is so valuable and why TRAs and their mates hate it so much.

Yes for instance the PACE survey relied on to push the child suicide line was based on a self selected sample of 27 trans people in an overall survey sample of 2000 odd.

Helleofabore · 07/07/2025 12:27

The mountain is growing.

Kinsters · 07/07/2025 13:55

Intentional or not it is extremely effective.

Step one: harass, bully and threaten women.

Step two: see, none of you turned up at the event where I said I'd be to harass, bully and threaten you in person. That means none of you disagree with me.

27 under 26-year-olds who may already have ‘transitioned’ if memory serves. So not only not children, but also feeling suicidal POST ‘transition’.

Dwimmer · 07/07/2025 14:13

Then again there was the survey the Scottish Government pushed in their school guidance which turned out to be a snowball-recruited survey (one person passes the survey onto friends to complete and therefore likely to have the same opinions) of homeless adults in Ontario. And the data was very selectively presented.

Dwimmer · 07/07/2025 14:15

I have only read the first couple of pages and the last couple of pages of this thread. But there seems to be a man on it pushing what is rape-culture: “we don’t care about women consenting, we are going to force ourselves on them anyway”

This with bloody great bells on!

Haha! That racism comment shows Ada clearly is not a serious person, it’s like all the other bullshit he’s been posting hasn’t been enough of a give away and he’s scraping the barrel now.

What next? Some complaints of violence when people post about Tunnocks tea cakes cos you’ve got an allergy 😂

How do you know that they were women when oh so many transwomen pass as women according to you? They could all be transwomen for all you know. Unless, of course, you can always tell who is a woman and who is a transwoman?

SternJoyousBee · 07/07/2025 18:39

Kinsters · 07/07/2025 09:59

Then why do opinion polls consistently show that the population are against your demands?

Opinion polls are transphobic

And it’s hilarious thinking that Pride is anything other than an excuse for a piss up. Spicy straights wearing their ally ship like a medal….not a medal they have won though, merely a participation medal.

And we have the Equality Act of course.

You know, the law, the very thing that has you in a meltdown.
