Islington Council slams 'botched' single sex spaces guidance

IwantToRetire · 03/07/2025 20:14

The council argues that the new guidance, which suggests that staff should check a person’s sex at birth before granting access to single-sex services or spaces, is unworkable and risks breaching individuals’ privacy and exposing them to harassment.

"Expecting reception staff in a busy leisure centre or a domestic violence service to determine whether someone is trans, without subjecting them to harassment or breaching their right to privacy, is not practical.

"It risks legal confusion and a culture of suspicion.

"That’s why we have called for the EHRC to pause this botched process – properly listening to trans communities – rather than simply causing further confusion."

Aida has no idea whatsoever. Aida wasn't affected by Section 28, but wants to tell a lot of women who were and who lived through it all about it. It's more appropriation.

It really is just more appropriation and it really is a misinformed attempt at appropriation too.

But that is pretty standard these days. If you are someone who thinks that they can be female because they say they are, what does historical and factual accuracy mean?

Kinsters · 07/07/2025 09:02

Once you've stolen a whole identity and been celebrated for it I guess that small matters like the truth and other people's lived experiences cease to have much relevance.

This feels like it needs a short history lesson.

Transgender people always existed, with varying level of recognition in the law depending on time and space, from annihilation to just another person. We managed to exist in either of those environments.

In UK, even in depth of section 28, we continued to exist and live in out transition just fine, the only variable is amount of harassment we have to endure that's endorsed by the law.

And you think that completely unenforceable law (under which it's impossible to prove that you are cis btw), with no punitive measures, is going to somehow make transgender people to decide "yep, you right, we will give in to the few loud transphobes and stop existing as ourselves?"

You live in lala land, not reality, if you think that.

And the law on top of everything is temporary, the reading you want of FWS puts us entirely in the same position which resulted in Goodwin, and creation of trans rights. Except now there is even more precedence in ECHR for us.

See ya in the loos that apparently bother you so much.

And you cannot understand why women don't want someone with that attitude anywhere near us?

They do, tens of thousands of them marched with us at PRIDE on satuday. The 15 who disagree had a very sad photo op on a sidewalk.

Is the reason that you don't speak British English because you aren't British &/or because you are not in the UK?

I did not expect racism to come into it this quickly, wow. I guess that's what you do when out of arguments, say that your blue passport is more blue than mine eh?

Then why do opinion polls consistently show that the population are against your demands?

Keep talking Aida, it's really good of you to show every lurker your complete disregard of women, children, truth, reality, science, keep going, you're a one man peaking machine.

Polls are only as good as the way questions are formed and polling groups selected, and yougov methodology of both is notoriously debatable and sometimes outright transphobic.

That's why despite all this yap and online support you think you have, all you got was sad 15 people by the sidewalk having to abandon their big protest march.

Ah yes, but a Pride parade is totally representative of the country as a whole.

If you think that women here are ever "out of arguments" you've not been on MN that long have you!

It might be racist if I had held up British English as superior to other languages but that isn't what happened. I was just intrigued that you cannot spell pavement & wondered why.
Perhaps you could just answer the question?

Opinion polls show 50% of the population don't even think that anyone should be able to change their gender.

I suspect it's simply too much time brain rotting on Reddit.

Would you like to detail why yougov polls cannot be accepted as being a good simulation of public opinion please? Particularly since the same questions asked in other countries produce the same results.

Did you know that there was at least one other break away event in London that was not even publicised, I believe? Just because a break away event is not well attended, the fact that they happen is significant. Particularly in this current environment when break away events are targeted by violent, aggressive and intimidatory male protesters.

And do you understand that YOUR actions on this very thread were part of that intimidation?

So, here you are crowing about successfully intimidating women so much that people simply will not have turned up.

Currently, your strike rate with your posts are very much showing many of the very behaviours and actions that supporters of male people with transgender identities have been busy denying are there are are happening.

Well done!

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 07/07/2025 10:18

It is up to the men not to enter women’s spaces.

The interesting thing about the YouGov polls is that they are asking the same questions every couple of years and the pro-women position is getting stronger and stronger. I imagine Aida and chums are directly responsible for some of that.

Kinsters · 07/07/2025 10:36

@Helleofabore I don't think Aida et al realise how genuinely frightening they are. The signs, the things they say online. I have thought twice about making certain comments online let alone attending an event (not that I could even if I wanted to).

I hate to say it, but I disagree with you Kinster.

I have reached the point where I don't believe these male people don't understand how genuinely frightening they are as male people acting in ways that are intimidating and violent. It is a feature. It could be said that they feel righteous in their actions, but how can any male person have reached adulthood and not understood how male pattern aggression is intimidating to female people?

I would make allowances for young male people. But not a male person who is old enough to have children that they explain kink to. Which brings me again to what the fuck is this person modelling for their children?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 07/07/2025 10:51

I don’t think he cares, is more the point. In fact, I think that’s the appeal.

Children? Aida is a man who claims to be a woman. He even claims to be a lesbian. If he can lie about that you cannot believe a word he says about anything else.
