Stephen Ireland, who co-founded Pride in Surrey, has been sentenced for 30 years for raping a 12-year old boy:

Good. I hope he rots.

Thanks for sharing this.

MelOfTheRoses · 30/06/2025 15:38

I was wondering when that would happen.

Thank you for sharing.

From that article:

”Ireland was convicted of multiple offences including three counts of causing a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, one count of sexual assault of a child under 13, arranging a child sex offence, and six counts of making indecent images of children.

Sutton was found guilty of three counts of making indecent photographs of children and possession of an extreme pornographic image. He was cleared of six counts of conspiracy to sexually assault a child. Ireland was convicted of one count of that offence but cleared of five. Both men were acquitted of conspiracy to kidnap.”

At least the police pursued these offences and it wasn’t just swept under the carpet. Perhaps it would be too cynical to ascribe that to the sex and sexuality of the victim and perpetrators…

But it’s a different response to the one so many of the young women, assaulted at similar ages (and plied with drinks and drugs in much the same way) got in Oldham etc.

BundleBoogie · 30/06/2025 16:27

I’m glad he got a long sentence.

He is not the first…

“Concerns around safeguarding surfaced recently after it was revealed that someone who had served 15 months in prison for possessing images of child sex abuse was appointed Chair of Pride in Wiltshire. Swindon and Wiltshire Pride, a registered charity, has been criticised by the Charity Commission, and asked to re-evaluate their safeguarding and recruitment policies.”

MelOfTheRoses · 30/06/2025 16:35

If I remember rightly from the trial, the Pride in question is now run by his ex-'polycule' partners.

Wasn't there another one of the Pride organisers also in court?
Worth remembering that some schools openly welcomed Ireland under the guise of his Pride leadership. Grim.

MelOfTheRoses · 30/06/2025 16:40

Yes - his partner at the time, David Sutton. He was given 54 months, with 27 needing to be served before release. Doesn't seem much.

They organised events for children.

IDareSay · 30/06/2025 16:59

I seem to recall this vile man was also constantly trying to get PCC Lisa Townsend sacked.

Boiledbeetle · 30/06/2025 18:16

30 years! That is a decent sentence length for once.

BeLemonNow · 30/06/2025 19:14

Why is the sentence for raping an underage boy so much longer than the recent sentences for raping underage girls?

Sorry but someone was going to point this out...might as well be me!

eulittleb831 · 30/06/2025 19:27

To clarify
24 years jail
6 years extended licence
20 years before eligible for parole

myplace · 30/06/2025 19:33

Good. May Pride take note and reconsider their safeguarding.

BeanQuisine · 30/06/2025 19:53

A lot more about the Ireland case here:

The LGBTQ+ movement has a paedophile problem

SinnerBoy · 30/06/2025 19:59

Christ. The best mitigation his barrister could come up with was that he "didn't abuse his position in Pride to commit the offences."

I think that the disparity in sentences is becasue the victim was 12; raping under 13s results in stronger sentences.

And yet oddly the guardian chooses to ignore this story in favour of yet another piece about the death of The Vivienne

the BBC also has the Vivienne on the main news page while Stephen Ireland doesbt appear to be anywhere https://www.bbc.co.uk/news

Of course they did. I watched a rather inept reporter mangling his lengthy report with lots of they and their pronouns. Think he was the LGB etc reporter? Wonder how on earth he missed this appalling case involving the rape of a child in favour of in favour of yet another drag queen report?

Also worth pointing out that the author of this article, Malcom Clark, is a gay man:

Yet being the perverted pedophile he is he still raped one.
