I wouldnt want to get changed in front of a stranger either, male or female. There are locks on the doors.

Communal changing rooms?

Communal changing rooms?

Yes my swimming pool has communal changing where men and women are all in the one space but there are still individual booths with locks.

And what's the breakdown of men identifying as trans in that figure?

It’s from the Scottish census. About 0.44% trans as total population but that’s like 1 in 1000 because most older folk arent trans/it’s a younger people’s thing generally. About half of that group are non-binary and the other half splits evenly between trans men and trans women. The figures are tricky but it breaks down to 1 in 70 in the 15-25 range or 1 in 93 in the 15-35 range. So it’s really time that a group of that size are properly catered for instead of being shoe-horned into women’s facilities.

Also to say that you’d just avoid changing room if there were people of the opposite sex in there - NHS Nurse of 30 years Sandie Peggie tried that (also used preferred pronouns & name) and still ended up on a disciplinary/losing her job. Kept off work and in the dark for months. All in our name while the NHS treated her really badly without seeing if what she’d done was true or not. Trans Woman (biological male) Dr Upton said under oath that the only satisfactory response would have been for Sandie to capitulate without complaint and change in the same room. Standing outside and waiting her turn wasn’t acceptable. That’s a pretty unpleasant thought that a new member of staff can turn up at your work and make demands like that - taking away your privacy and dignity and your choice. How would you feel if you’d been in that situation?

On loan from Reddit. There’s been quite a few since the schools/uni finished.

The unisex changing facilities arent quite as great as I first thought. This happened near us: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/gift/70eeb1b81dc332a4

Yes some people are utter arseholes. I wouldnt want to get changed in front of a work colleague, I'd wish to have a lockable space.

Even at my gym where it's an all female changing room I still use the lockable areas and the showers with doors as opposed to the open ones.

Plasticwaste · 28/06/2025 20:47

BTW, just spotted my first Glasto troon flag...

Yes there are some perverts in this world. There was a man where I live found guilty of fitting a recording device in the womens toilets at his workplace.

The odd trans person. Here’s selection of these odd trans people in prison , from Canada. These ladies are ‘odd’ at best..

Edited

Not all from Canada. No 9 was a sex offender that escaped from prison in Yorkshire and who the Derby Telegraph reported being on the loose and citizens of Derbyshire were to look out for a 'woman who might be dressed as a man'.

You’d be out of luck in the NHS. On another thread we are auditing the single sex policies for staff and patients. So far we’ve not identified any protected single sex spaces. And in some trusts patients would have their treatment withdrawn if they said they’d rather not have a male in the bed next to them or using the women’s toilets. Especially when the NHS publicly promise single sex wards…. I had no clue until February. I still can’t get my head around someone losing their job for not wanting a male in the ladies changing room (nhs staff have open plan facilities)

Reminds me of Jo Whiley the other day, playing an absolutely rubbish new song by Kate (now Kae) Tempest. Made sure to get in the fact she was now a "he", lots of breathless plaudits, etc.

Followed it straight up with You Can't Always Get What You Want by the Stones 😁

I can't cope with 6 music any more. It was a good thing for a while but I think I've aged out if the bracket, what with being a grown up.

Yes what kind of a prick would you need to be to make such a fuss that someone lost their job! I've had fallings out with someone at work once but it didnt go any higher, it was just between the two of us and eventually resolved itself.

Yes! Can you imagine if your colleague had claimed you’d committed a hate incident and got you fired? For simply saying the words “you shouldn’t be in here - you’re a man” to them in the women’s changing room!?

HPFA · 28/06/2025 21:31

There's a lot less Pride stuff around generally - been quite noticeable where I live.

So what does it matter what the current mood is amongst festival goers?

That would be an ecumenical matter.

We're all aghast at what's happening in Gaza. However, what this refers to is groups like Queers for Palestine. There appears to be a total lack of understanding that the Middle Eastern country with the best record on LGBTQ+ rights is Israel. Most of the others are places where being openly gay would put you at risk of imprisonment and/or violence. Life is complicated. We shouldn't be trying to oversimplify it.

i dont think its possible to oversimplify a genocide. maybe this person says it better than me

I’m a queer Palestinian. Stop using my identity as cover for the destruction of Gaza | Jad Salfiti

Rightwingers in Israel and the US claim they are defending LGBTQ+ rights while Gaza’s people are killed. Don’t dare do this in our name, says British-Palestinian video producer and journalist Jad Salfiti

I've got plenty things to worry about above the goings on in prisons. Horrendous things have been going on in prisons long before the odd trans person made the headlines. People get beaten up, murdered, isolated, develop mental health issues, the list goes on. I don't spend my time worrying about prisoners no. Dont want to go to prison? Dont comit fraud.

You might perhaps have heard of miscarriages of justice. They do happen from time to time. But even the women who have committed the crimes they've been convicted of deserve to be given humane conditions in prison. It's not supposed to be a hellhole that turns criminals into even more damaged and dysfunctional people than they were before they went in.

I think it’s so weird that the vast vast vast majority of people seeing that flag won’t have any inkling that it’s remotely controversial.

And yet we watch - fearful for the safety of the woman flying it. And know that KJK’s been called a Nazi and had death threats for designing it.

Strange times

Yes I have heard of miscarriages of justice. So now we are down to the thinnest hair of both a trans man being in a womans prison and him then attacking a wrongfully accused woman.

You've been told this before, but a 'trans man' is a woman (as in a woman who identifies as a man).

I'm not just concerned about a trans-identified male attacking women in prison, I'm also concerned that women prisoners shouldn't be sharing accommodation with males. Even if there is no attack, most such males are not gay so there's the risk of voyeurism. Also, female prison staff shouldn't be expected to strip search or pat down male prisoners, regardless of how the male identifies. I'd also like to be reassured that there are no male prison staff identifying as female being given the green light to pat down and strip search female inmates.

All so needlessly complicated. We used to have this sorted.
