Why is anti-trans so important?

Elizabethbd · 24/06/2025 11:48

So, I will preface this with saying that I’m not in the UK, and my country does not yet have the kind of anti-trans debate as there is in the English speaking world.

So, I have a hard time understanding why this is such an important question to many women.

Surely there are women’s issues that affect a larger part of society.

I’m thinking rape and violence towards women, homelesness, sex trafficking and honour killings. Why are these issues not more important and worthy of attention, as they affect so many more women than those who come into contact with trans women (or men)?

PRO WOMEN

not anti trans.

Getting so sick of wilful misinterpretation.

I think this op might actually just be thinking

rare I know but it does happen

I agree

which is why i asked about her thoughts before starting the thread.

No one should be anti-trans.

they should be pro women being defined as a class of people that can be defined and protected. From birth to death and in multiple facets of our lives, women face unique issues because of the role we play in the perpetuation of the species whether we choose to become mothers or not.

they should also care about making sure gender nonconformity, including people who identify as trans, do not face discrimination.

the two things can and should exist simultaneously. The problem is that recently some people tried to create legal fiction.

Women need to be able to be defined as a sex class, in biology and in law.
without that basic foundation none of the other stuff you mention can be tackled.

This. How can you define a rape if we can’t define a woman.

Maddy70 · 24/06/2025 15:57

Do you believe women like this should have to use men's toilets? https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1AZvSbYFqQ/

Again, thank you to all posters. My intention was to gain information, not to engage in a debate. I won’t engage in this debate further, primarily because I don’t have an opinion to defend.

You're very welcome, Elizabethbd.
Always happy to set out the issues for women who are genuinely interested in how trans rights and women's rights interact.
But lots of women aren't so happy to have to go over it for the umpteenth time, so the
https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/3145470-Break-it-down-for-me
thread saves a lot of time and effort.

Another drive by poster, there have been several of these of late, is there any particular reason, have I missed something. 🤨

Why are you trying to use someone with a DSD as some sort of ‘gotcha’? They have nothing to do with a male cosplaying at being a female (and are sick of being used in the gender ideology debate by TRAs I believe).

Maddy70 · 24/06/2025 16:13

The argument is the same and intersex people are being targeted by the transphobic folk

They aren’t ‘intersex’. Have you any examples of how they’ve been targeted? Nope probably not. It’s pro women not anti trans but you've been told this many times now Maddy.

Care to answer if Isla Bryson should be using the women’s?

INeedAPensieve · 24/06/2025 16:17

It's not anti trans FFS. It's pro women and making sure one group's rights as per the 2010 Equality act don't impact negatively another group's rights. Which is what had been happening but now steps are being made to ensure this no longer happens.

Igneococcus · 24/06/2025 16:18

Hang on, it can be difficult in rare cases to determine the sex of people with DSDs without genetic analysis whereas we can pretty much always tell the sex of a transwoman. How is that the same?
And do you have any credible sources for your claim that "intersex" people are targeted by transphobes?
That's for Maddy, not sure what happened to the quote.

No, they aren't. They have always been force teamed by the anti women 'folk' though...despite many of them asking not to be...

Yeah I think this is what I see as the problem too.
I'm not feminine looking at all I'm quite butch so people could easily mistake me for a trans woman in a public bathroom.
I suppose I see transwomen as such a tiny vulnerable minority, I don't see them as any kind of risk. No more risk than another woman.... im sure there are some bad eggs like in any group of ppl.

You might be mistaken for a man trying to pass as a woman? Has this happened at all in your lifetime? Even after opening your mouth and speaking, people still assume you are male? Really?

Since when have males been a tiny, vulnerable minority?

Some really well done satire going on recently! A perfect piss take precis of the most absurd TRA clichés. Well done!

So did you genuinely want to "understand" or was this a quote/screenshot trawling mission?

Theeyeballsinthesky · 24/06/2025 16:41

Ah I see we’ve got “but intereeeeersex” and it’s only page 3

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 24/06/2025 16:43

A call to arms has definitely went out to the blue haired variety.

Chersfrozenface · 24/06/2025 16:43

I suppose I see transwomen as such a tiny vulnerable minority, I don't see them as any kind of risk. No more risk than another woman...

And there's your mistake. A transwoman isn't another woman, a transwoman is a man. Because humans cannot change sex

And therefore a transwoman is just as much a risk as another man.

Kinsters · 24/06/2025 16:44

@Eolhc1990 trans identifying men (often referred to as trans women) seem to have an unusually high percentage of "bad eggs" amongst them if you look at the statistics for incarcerated sex offenders in the UK.

@Maddy70 intersex is not the same as transgender and the arguments against trans identified males accessing female spaces are wildly inapplicable to someone like Stephanie.

Why is anti-trans so important?

Buckle up, OP.

Yup. I'm not in the UK and can hear the sound of hysterical screeching and smell the flaming brands being lit from here.
