Why is anti-trans so important?

Elizabethbd · 24/06/2025 11:48

So, I will preface this with saying that I’m not in the UK, and my country does not yet have the kind of anti-trans debate as there is in the English speaking world.

So, I have a hard time understanding why this is such an important question to many women.

Surely there are women’s issues that affect a larger part of society.

I’m thinking rape and violence towards women, homelesness, sex trafficking and honour killings. Why are these issues not more important and worthy of attention, as they affect so many more women than those who come into contact with trans women (or men)?

This is such an ignorant and honestly stupid outlook. So, because of “John,” pretending to be trans, we diminish the rights of all genuine transwomen? Transwomen who have spent years becoming who they want to be? Because people like you think the whole thing occurs over the course of two days and is just a case of buying a dress, a wig, and shaving a moustache? Why is it ok to make such generalised assumptions about one group of people, and not another?

Regardless of what you believe their gender to be they are a tiny minority of people and I certaibly don't fear them any more than I would a woman.
For sure I fear straight men so i wouldnt like a gender neutral public toilet, but if a trans person identifying as a woman wanted to use the female bathrooms it's no skin off my nose.

Are you aware that trans women are more likely to have been convicted of a sex crime against women than straight men are?

"I came here in bad faith to get some screenshots and start a bun fight. Having plopped and dropped I'm off"

The answer to your 'very clever trick question' is very simple.

This is a feminism board - that means centring women.

Its not a board for being pro-trans or anti-trans. Or trans anything.

I hope satisfies your desire to show how terrible MN is.

Its not a board for being pro-trans or anti-trans.

You are half-right; this is indeed not a board that is pro-trans.

Don’t call them John then. Try Eddie. In much of Eddie’s work Eddie presents as male. Eddie doesn’t mind what pronouns you use for him. When Eddie isn’t working he calls himself Suzy and uses the ladies. What’s the difference between Eddie & Suzy?

RufustheFactuaIReindeer · 24/06/2025 19:30

Its not anti trans either

so she is completely right

Let's get one thing straight.

Trans women have zero rights to be in female only spaces and never did.

And we keep all men out of women's spaces because of John the rapist, irrespective of whether John is pretending to be trans or not.

RufustheFactuaIReindeer · 24/06/2025 19:31

Its not that i dont support them i just don't agree with them that trans women are a threat....and I don't really understand how you expect to police it given the fact that many trans women and cis women (me included) look very masculine. Like how are you going to know? The whole bathroom debate is just weird.

My best guy mate isn’t a threat. He shouldn’t go into women’s spaces either as his presence may make other women uncomfortable for a myriad of reasons. I can assure you he wouldn't harm a fly. This wouldn’t change if he woke up tomorrow and thought he was a woman. What part of that do you not get? Women have the right to single SEX spaces.

Correct. It's a feminist board.

DiscoBob · 24/06/2025 19:32

There's nothing wrong with women not wanting to share certain spaces with bio males.

It's not being anti-trans. I'm not anti-men but I don't want to be in vulnerable place with them. Hospital ward, prison, changing room or bathroom. And I certainly wouldn't want to compete against them in sport because it wouldn't be fair.

I have transmen family. They don't feel the urge to compete in men's sport.

I would always call someone by their chosen name and pronouns to them as respect. But trans people are a separate category to the opposite sex. Not wrong or worse, just different. You cannot become the opposite sex. That's just the truth.

SporadicMincePieMuncher · 24/06/2025 19:33

I wouldn't want to meet those women either.

The statistics show clearly that:

Men are more violent a sex class than women.
Identifying as trans does not change this.
There are less attacks on women when single-sex toilet facilities exist.

Men have a wonderful (saracasm) array of options to hurt women with. Some men are also angry towards trans-female-identifying folk - You honestly don't think that they would love the opportunity to pretend that it was a trans identifying person who was violent?

This is Isla Bryson by the way. Isla identifies as a woman, despite having used their penis to rape two women. Isla and their penis think they belong in a women's prison. Would you feel happy to share a prison wing or cell with Isla?

This one is Jessica Yaniv. Jessica found themselves a hobby - they would contact small salons ran by immigrant women from ethinic minorities (often of a religion which takes modesty in non-contact with the opposite sex very seriously) who offered intimate waxing for women only. Jessica wanted them to wax Jessica's balls, and when they declined due to having no experience with Jessica's genitalia configuration (male) Jessica tried to sue them. No really. Thankfully, a judge recognised that Jessica was "Divorced from reality". Would you be happy if you were an aesthetician who Jessica wanted to ask if you would wax their junk and if you could work around a tampon string?

To be honest, I think the bathroom thing is a bit of a damp squib/red herring/ whatever. It’s always been used as a deflection “We only want to pee!” is easily fixed, and distracts from the important discussions about prisons, lesbians rights, sport and employment.

What? Ok, so we’ve established that Eddie is a crossdresser? Forgive me, I thought we were talking about trans folk, the ones who have removed their penis etc. I didn’t realise folk that did that acted as a different sex for only half the day.

Erm, fewer than 10% of trans women have had their penis removed.

How did you miss Stella Creasy saying, "JK Rowling is wrong, a woman can have a penis" in the Daily Telegraph?

Correct. It's a feminist board.

Being feminist and being in support of - or an ally to - the rights of trans-women are not mutually exclusive, despite the confusion of some people.

Most transwomen retain their penis.

No surgical or hormone treatment is required to get a Gender recognition certificate or to be covered by the PC of gender reassignment in the Equality Act.

A man with a penis and GRC can get a new birth certificate saying they are female

They are if you support trans women being in women's single sex spaces or sporting categories.

Personally, people can do whatever they want, but a trans woman is a trans woman, and not a woman.

Excuse me? Are you claiming Jo is not truly a genuine transwoman but pretending? How very transphobic of you.

The whole point is men don't actually have to do anything to become a transwoman. Jo could even have kept the moustache.

Trans women are welcome to "become who they want to be," whatever that actually means. They just aren't welcome to erode women's rights in the process. We've worked quite hard for those, and they aren't up for the taking.
