Fascinating stuff. Long-time TRA and transman https://x.com/legaltweetz has made an almost overnight conversion to the gender critical side.

'I honestly feel like I’m leaving a cult. Where saying anything outside of the accepted narrative will get a bunch of anime pfps attacking your character.'

Legaltweetz is now under sustained attack from other TRAs.

If you're on Twitter, go take a look. This person was one of the most vocal TRAs on there until a month ago.

Wondering if it's no coincidence that it's a female person who's got disenchanted with the ideology and its supporters.

Yes this is what I was thinking. The more high profile people do it the better as it will hopefully make others think. It's good to know networks are being built.

Agree. I get frustrated at everyone (healthcare professionals included) quoting desistance or detrans rates that are very very low. Of course there's no decent collection of data but anyone following things online KNOWS there are loads of regretters. The more that get out in the open the better.

I can imagine him turning on legaltweetz quite viciously. Hope she has offline support and can just ignore the mad MRAs and TRAs and their handmaidens.

Not are the loads of regretters, we know that from a personal point of view (admitting your mistake and harm caused to yourself), and from a support network point of view (let alone as a victim of the most malicious TRA attacks), coming out as a detransitioner is incredibly difficult. I would argue that not only do we not have any decent stats, if we did have decent stats I would supect they would be 50% to 500% under-representative of the numbers who deep down want to detrans due to these factors.

[The following is pretty speculative, based on my gut feel more than facts...]

And that is before we get onto the idea of when do these people detransition? I believe that broadly speak we might divide trans into old school trans (pre 2000?), new wave (2000-15?) and current cohort (2015-2025?). Old school was tiny and probably bears little relation to the new wave cohort - if we have reliable stats they say nothing about the new wave let alone the current cohort. The new wave is not that large and probably shares things with both the old school and current cohort. The current cohort is much much bigger than the new wave, and if detransition happens 5 to 10 years in, and there are similar numbers each year in the cohort, then half the cohort have not even got to the full 5 years yet, and most of the others have still not done the 10 years that some of them might need before they detrans.

TLDR - I am certain the numbers now are much higher than it looks, and the potential over the next 5 or 10 years for the numbers to skyrocket is surely huge.

And I'm saying all that without really considering the risk of things like strokes as a result of wrong sex hormones. I would not bet on it, but if the stats do start to look really solid and well publicised that men on oestrogen are 5 or 10 times more likely to have a stroke, and AGPs start all knowing at least one TIM in a wheelchair, unable to speak as a result, could that pursuade some of them that detransitioning, medically at least, is the way forward.

The fall-out from this tragedy / fiasco / clownshow will go on for so many decades.

I have no idea if she is being sincere or not. The switch feels so sudden, but she is receiving some appalling abuse. Some TRAs are total sadists.

The reason she's getting abused is because she was laughing with a guy in a chatroom who was talking about sexually abusing a terf, being a rapist and showing revenge porn. She got caught out and called a rape apologist. It's not about her detransitioning. The minute there was evidence shown of what she did she suddenly announced she was detransitioning out of nowhere. Basically she's mad about being caught doing something disgusting and being called out on it. No one is bothered about her detransitioning, it's the lies she's been telling, not apologising and being generally being a bit aggressive. But she refuses to see why people are upset with her, only a few weeks ago she was fully onboard with trans issues and then the next minute she's all friendly with the likes of JKJ .It's just really weird. I didn't even know who this person was but reading back through her posts it all becomes clear. I think she's a bit unhinged to be honest, she doesn't sound too well even before all this.

Quite a few people on X. That's what all the palaver was about originally, then she out of the blue said she was detransitioning and cutting herself off from the trans people. Because they'd been calling her out for disgusting behaviour, the screen shots were all there for proof. So she went into a mega huff and turned her back on it all even though before this happened she was all for the trans community. People felt really let down by her behaviour as they'd respected her before. She's basically just throwing a massive tantrum

TRAs don’t tend to object to violent threats against TERFs. They tend to revel in sadistic violent imagery. So I can’t see many X using TRAs objecting.

They did believe me, if you go and read back through all the posts you'll see that that is what people are mad about, they couldn't care less about her detransitioning. Not just about the terf, although that was pretty disgusting but there were other rape claims and revenge porn shared obviously without the person's consent. Believe it or not not all trans people are raving activists. They obviously felt this sort of thing paints them all in bad light which isn't fair or helpful

She misgendered the person calling her out about being a rape apologist. It's the misgendering that really kicked things off.
